  1. Something just came to my attention. if we ignore all the points about timelines and whatever else is bothering the historical types. I'm sure most here have watched Pirates of the Carribean. The "Cursed Crew of Barbossa" sneak onto the king's ship and do their nifty killing thing. Whilst we all know POTC is hardly a reference source for anything, it could be argued that either A. Ninjas COULD be used against pirates. Or B. Pirates can do what ninjas do as well. (as far as i can tell, all they can do is be sneaky) Hmm, third time i've replied in this post
  2. my woman be an agreeable sort, so we generally get along fine, but when she *does*speak up, things usually go her way. Mmm, It's in the movies, I hear plenty of stories about it. but i've never actually MET a woman whos partner is/was horrid to her, or a guy who is/was horrid to his partner. I'm not suggesting it doesn't happen, merely that it seems rare.
  3. to skip all the speculation and horribly violated history. A Pirate-ninja-samurai-bhuddist-terroist-martian-jedi would win. problem solved, now we can all go bobbing for apples in rum. Because I'm a pedant: Caeser was kidnapped by pirates, he never was one himself. (Extra credit stuff: he convinced the pirates to INCREASE his ransom, then after it was paid, he tracked them down, killed them, and took everything back)
  4. Is not the idea of ninjas to do whatever Mr Big tells you to? (plus all the honour and Bushido (if someone mentions Samurai i'll beat them senseless and break their sinful fingers, no one knows what ninjas are anyway) and pirates are more into the. If the government won't give me a good job, i'll beat the crap out of everyone and loot everything And looking at this here map, Japan, where ninjas supposedly do their shopping, is, roughly, a BLOODY LONG WAY away from where the pirates like to do Their *shopping* this is where someone mentions Japanese pirates, and I ignore them. If you didn't want a logical response, then Pirates, because, well, Ninjas are sissy's who run around in the dark like ugly kids on E. And if you're one of those people that obsesses over the pirate/ninja thing. Visit a website containing the words "Lance" "and" "Eskimo" Off topic: Sinbad has got to be the swankiest sailor this side of the arctic.
  5. I've nothing knew to add, but to defend my honour and what i thought was a pretty informative reply. I didn't mean the bosun actually repaired or rigged anything, but if the crew-members whos job it was didn't do it, they'd have to answer to him similar with the QM
  6. I've read various speculations, but the most common one seems to be E. Teach So if I was a betting man, and I very well might be, I'd go with that.
  7. Good on y'all, and best wishes to the boy, hope it all goes to plan. are you allowed to give him real pirate rum too? It's probably not very moral, but now I've got my hopes up that a kid here will want a pirate adventure too.
  8. Nothing constructive to say, but that's a fine looking blade you've made/converted there. congrats mate
  9. It be my understanding that bosun and quartermaster were(are) not all that different in rank, but simply have different duties. The Quartermaster in charge of matters to do with the crew, ie. food, clothes etc. and the bosun in command of matters to do with the ship itself. rigging, repairs and whatnot.
  10. i've not the time for such a detailed response, but to answer your question. I do the pirate thing because it's fun, and it goes nicely with my love of sailing. (I am a fan of the outdoors and travelling as well, but that's not why I'm into this)
  11. After it's been looked at by countless professionals, where will it end up for us less educated folk to witness it?
  12. I'm about to go for my maritime operations certificate, Three cheers for me! I'm not sure what they call it where anyone else is from, but it means I can be employed on a commercial vessel.(In my State) eh, I had to tell someone.
  13. Gunblade? as in a pistol strapped to a sword? Smells dangerous and stupid...my kinda weapon Puts a new spin on "Pistol Grip"
  14. I prefer the hacking swings of cutlasses (or machetes, if you are into the cheaper, more functional approach) However, I was in some store or another and they let me swing a scottish broadsword around a few times, and that felt pretty good, (for those wondering, it is a fencing sword, but it is just over an inch thick at the base)
  15. i'm a bit embarressed to reply to this, 'aving just started posting again after a several month travelling expedition (I do try to live up to my title) but i've been on the ugly of youth for a while, and methinks i'm salty enough to say, darn kids! not much to add, but I concur with what's been said. though, since all good pirates should be able to spin tales and handle their grog at a young age, I say we give the sods a chance.
  16. Eh, Arrr! Avast! and damnnation!, That'd be a fine sight, But i'm the other side of the world, Arr, but at least the movie is still on at the cinemas here
  17. Eh, I got no young'uns of me own (and if any of me lasses threatens me with one i'm shippin' out) But i gotta say, Cap'n feathersword should get a show of 'is own, he beats the pants of all the other wiggly folks.
  18. Eh, looks to be quality stuff, alas, i be on the other side o' the oceans, but iff'n you go, youse are to be telling me alls about it.
  19. eh? no one saw 'im thief the coin? personallally methinks it was a rather indiscreet stealing anyways, i'm surprised none of 'is pirating mates saw it 'appen, a black dot against againt barbossa for being a blind fool
  20. oh, i just noticed you are new here too, welcome and cheers, eheh, i'll see ya swabbing the decks some time
  21. Eh, to remove the curse, everyone who has ever stolen from the chest must return a medallion, (with blood) and since ol' jack stole one earlier he had to return that, as well as Willjnr returning his one, so that the curse would be gone and barbossa would be mortal again. Hope that 'elps.
  22. Eh, i see you all agree with BJM, but I just can't have that happening can I? Methinks, BSB gave the medallion to will jnr, for sentimental reasons or somesuch, he didn't know bout the curse at the time, they offed 'im just because he was a whinging sod and kept preaching that they shouldnt'a abandoned ol' jack, eh, call me a fool if ye will, but i'm a pedantic sod and everyone is entitled to my opinion, eh.
  23. Eh, I don't seem to be able to find many piratey sorts around abouts me hometown(NSW Australia) Not even enough to fill a 30 ft Yacht, let alone a larger boat of piratey proportions with swashing and buckling and such, so if there be any pirates or pirettes in the area interested in anything from sailing to just kicking around being piratey, let me know.
  24. Eh, methinks, that even though you say they didn't want the medallion thrown over the edge because they are lazy. that they couldn't survive neatly underwater, but, in favor of special effects and having dead people walk, the movie making folk 'forgot' that fact so they can have a nice scene near the end...of having dead people walk with special effects. eh, maybe I'll agree with you after some marsupial meat and more whiskey
