  1. You've all convinced me -- silver it is. I've been saving my spare doubloons for long enough that I can afford to spring for the silver ... and, while I understand what you're saying about silver still being prone to scratch and tarnish, the fact that silver still has a far better quality to it all around, and will last in much better condition for far longer ... Yah, I'm convinced. Silver. Thanks to everybody for their input -- that was _exactly_ the sort of information I was looking for. Thank you, thank you! :)
  2. Hey mates -- Long time no post, and all that *guilty grin* ... but now I come with a burning question ... Okay. For some weeks now, I have been saving my pennies for a Jack Sparrow replica ring. I at long last have the pennies, but it's now also left me with a quandary -- silver replica, or pewter? Does anyone know what the DIFFERENCE is?? I can't find a comparison online _any_where ... specifically, what I'm wondering is, between a pewter ring and a silver one, which one will last longer? I am willing to dish out a fair amount of money for this thing, but as a result of that, I want it to _last_ -- to be able to stand a little wear and tear. I mean, I'm not planning on wearing the thing when I go out hiking or camping or sailing or something; I will be taking good care of the piece, to be sure -- but I want this thing to last. So, betwen pewter and silver -- which one tarnishes less, or is less likely to scrape and get bent out of shape, or just lasts longer and in the better condition? Again, I'm not (too) worried about price -- so any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks so much! :) (And have a round of drinks on me, as I welcome meself back to the board ...)
  3. What about this? I've been trying to avoid major rumors such as this one, but I got a bit blindsided by this one, and now I'm wondering if I'm the last person to hear of it: The ending of PotC 2? ... (NOTE: MASSIVE spoilers contained in the part labelled "Spoilers: Highlight to read" ... if they're true! ;-D ) It's worth a look-see if you're interested in those sorts of plot possibilities, anyway. Apparently this news about the ending of PotC 2 has been spreading like wildfire all over the 'net, but I've missed it up 'til now ... so if you're curious, take a gander. ;-)
  4. I'm with PirateQueen -- James L. Nelson's "The Only Life that Mattered" is a book I've been waiting since childhood to read. I've long since wondered why there didn't appear to be any in-depth Anne and Mary novel out there ... so when I found out about Nelson's book, I rushed out to buy it immediately. And it was worth the wait -- not only was it the Anne and Mary tale I'd been waiting for, but it's an all-around excellent piratical read. My current read is a rather amusing little book called "The Pirates in an Adventure with Ahab," a British satire that is quite Monty Python-esque (which is a definitely a good thing). Not a long read by any stretch of the imagination, but I can highly recommend it; it's hilarious.
  5. "We need a ship for an ocean voyage." "Ocean? ... Ocean. ..." "Uh, yeah -- the ocean?" "..." "You know, the big blue wet thing?!" "... OOOHHH!! The BIG blue WET thing!! Yeeees!" Gawd, I love that movie. How about when Rizzo pulls the Henry Kissinger book from Billy's sea chest?? I love it.
  6. Ooh, "Muppet Treasure Island"!! I DO so love that movie ... I already have it on DVD, so I doubt I'll be buying another copy of it (even if it is special edition) -- but I may have to get some of the other new releases ... And ol' Kermit's been around since 1955?! Wow. ;-)
  7. AAHH!! AHHH!!!! _AAAHHHHAHAHHHH_!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have actual PHOTOS!!!! [Edited/Removed: Pictures are copywrited to Disney] Okay ... sooo, anybody want to take a wild guess as to what exactly it is about Jack's scheme that winds Elizabeth and Will into their predicaments in the first, second, sixth, and seventh photo? 'Cause ya got me.
  8. It's a kick in the pants - I laughed more watching it than I had in a long time. Oh, my gosh, yes -- I _love_ that movie; one of my all-time favorites. I had expected it to hopefully be a bit of a laugh, seeing as it was a comedy -- but I was in hysterics for the entire film. Still am, every time I watch it. I'm always finding some new little thing that cracks me up (my favorite example of this being Fred Kwan's muttered comment of "Wooow, the floors are sooo clean!" which I didn't notice until I'd seen the film over a dozen times) ... Oh, and the W.A.G., right -- ;-) Poker
  9. Gilligan's Island (Red-Handed Jill! You have SEEN "Galaxy Quest"!! Is it not the most delightful movie of all time, after POTC?? Yes, it is! :) )
  10. Can you sing at the same time, in more than one key, Duets by Rossini, and waltzes by Strauss? And can you, as cats do, begin with a "C," That always triumphantly brings down the house?
  11. Alright, I'll ask already, because I can't figure it out by me onesies no matter how hard I try ... Why do the VeggieTales characters SING a song called, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything," and is the song related to the song by the same title as sung by Reliant K? I have been wondering about this ever since I DLed the Reliant K song some time ago ... but then people keep talking about it being a VeggieTales song, and I've gotten quite confused about the connection ...
  12. Oh, no, don't get me wrong -- I DO love Jack Sparrow the more women he wines and dines and ... er, yes. ;-D I've seen screengrabs from 2 and 3 showing that Scarlett and Giselle are back for the sequels, and I'm loving that; I loved their characters, and I totally approve of seeing more of them; they're great. _Jack_ is great, in all his womanizing-character self ... it's hilarious fun. *grins again* No ... what I was afraid of was that Captain Jack would be given a Mary-Sue-styled love interest ... the kind of love interest that pops up on Fanfiction.net (and various other Disney sequels) ... in this case, I'd expect to see a female pirate captain, or a highborn lady tired of being a highborn lady (like Elizabeth, only incredibly annoying in a way in which Elizabeth never is), or some poor abused Tortugian wench looking for a savior ... and Jack swoops in, saves said lass, and falls madly in love with her, to the point where he is close to renouncing piracy and sailing in order to spend the rest of his days as a happily-married man -- because, hey, who needs a ship when you've found your One Truw Luve?? So, no ... Sparrow wenches are fine. Sparrow love interests are fine. Sparrow soul-mates that turn Sparrow into a swooning romantic are NOT fine, because they are clearly not Sparrow at all. But I'm gonna take Iron Bess's elusive answer as a strongly-optimistic sign that my worries are unnecessary ... because I'm going to take it to mean that Jack will remain his ever-loving Bondish self (that doesn't sound quite right, does it?? ;-D), and that there are no Mary Sues on the sequels' horizons. *grins* Women, yes; Mary Sue love interests, no. Because the possibility had been making me nervous, let me tell ya! ... Now, Iron Bess, just let us know if they need a few more actresses to play various Sparrow wenches, because while I have no intention of trying to break into acting, I wouldn't mind auditioning for a role like THAT ...
  13. I'm going to make you a happy Pirate.... Yes, they have spared you that. ..... sorta. Hey, that's an intriguing, elusive, vague sort of answer ... but I'll TAKE IT! *grins wildly* Have another few rounds on me, Iron Bess ... you've made me one very happy pirate, indeed!!
  14. I was thinking about this the other day. I was thinking about the things we're heard about cannibals roasting Jack on a stick over a fire, and Will and Jack fighting the giant squid from Hogwarts and so on (well, it's SOMETHING like that, right? *grins*), and all of that ... and I was starting to think to myself, "Oh, this is starting to sound _stupid_, I'm going to be so very very upset if it's stupid, what are they thinking?! Please don't let it be stupid ..." And then I thought back to the original movie for a bit. Now, the first movie consists of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and the British Royal Navy running around and fighting these undead skeletons for two and a half hours. When you put it like THAT, the original POTC doesn't sound any better than a B-rated horror flick (if even that good). "People fighting undead skeletons" sounds like a corny, silly, _unworkable_ film. And yet, POTC is none of these things ... so, as silly as some plot lines sound to us now (and many of 'em may be rumors yet anyway), they will probably end up being just as fun and completely awesome as the "corny undead skeletons" ended up being in the first film. I mean, really! ;-) Yeah, I can see that! *grins* I mean, I've never met the guy, I've never even seen the guy in person ... but this sounds Depp-ish if you ask me. ;-) You can't blame the guy for wanting to work on a film with one of his heroes ... but he must drive the writers and Disney nuts when he says this sort of thing! *grins again* From what I've gathered about Johnny Depp from watching him in interviews, and hearing actors and actresses who have worked with him talking about him -- he's one of the nicest, kindest, most respectful-of-others guys in the world ... but he also sounds like, once he gets a bee in his bonnet (not that Johnny Depp wears bonnets ;-D), he's not likely to let it go. Which is a good thing, most of the time -- I tend to be that way myself. But it'll drive his producers in Hollywood crazy. ;-D Remember the first teaser trailer? The FIRST teaser trailer?! Which consisted mostly of the camera running past ocean waves while incredibly silly phrases flashed across the screen in a cheap-o white font? (And if you don't know how a font can look cheap, then you don't remember this preview. ;-D) That preview made POTC look _terrible_ ... but it was, of course, dead wrong. Even after they fix this trailer and release it -- even if it stilly doesn't make the sequel look cool, I won't be surprised if it's an awesome film anyway. There have been so _horrid_ trailers for really great films (and vice versa) ... the original POTC being the perfect example! Thanks for all the updates, Iron Bess. I'm feeling much less afraid now. :) My only question that I desperately want answered is, "Did the writers lose their minds and give Jack Sparrow a Mary-Sue-type One-True-Love-sort of love interest, or did they spare us that?!??" ... but I also know perfectly well that you can't answer anything THAT big (though you will notice I couldn't help but ask it anyway; I really couldn't help myself) ... but I know better. *grins* So, once again, I'll just say thank ye kindly, Iron Bess; these updates are fantastic. Have a round on me!!
  15. From what I've heard, she's going to be Jack's niece ... which relieves the heck outta me, let me tell ya; I love the idea of bringing in Jack's family (his father and niece and so on), but if they go too far with it, it might lose some of its charm -- and I'm not sure we need to give Jack Sparrow a daughter! Amen. Sequels are always _very very very_ scary things ... but maybe if we just keep thoughts positive then all will be well ...
  16. Belini (Cheech's character in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" ...)
  17. He DIED?!? Oh man, I think that news just broke my heart ... Anybody know what happened??
