Sail-and-spar tent

Calico Jack

This tent was made by wrapping an actual sail - 'though a small one - around a frame built of a spar for the horizontal, and sets of crossed oars for the verticals. The painting is the logo for the museum who owns the boat which had once used this sail. The rear end was quickly whip-stitched closed on-site. Front end was open, which did make it chilly in Old Louisbourg, but a simple fly [such as a boat cloak draped over the entry during sleep] would fix that nicely. Short oars and small sail meant no standing room.
