About a year and a half ago I wanted to fashion myself a belly box, but thanks to my natural inclination to do little or nothing I still haven't made one. In the thread I started then asking for advice I was told that a cartridge box was found on the Whydah. Does anyone have any pictures of it or any idea of where I can find out more info about it? I'm inclined to buy one but the earliest I can find is the 1750s: The Quartermaster General Pepe's Possibles C & D Jarnagin Company I really like the idea of making a fabric one like was found on the Whydah though. Every time I look at period pictures of the famous captains I see their boxes and I wants one.

Anyone have a good source for "apostles" or wooden powder measures similar to the ones below? Are they GAOP appropriate? I've seen GAOP pirate re-enactors wearing them but from what I can find they were used by Musketeers. I like the look & thought about adding them to my baldric.

I’m in the market for calico fabrics, preferably block printed. I’m not necessarily looking for period authentic, but it’s always a plus where I can get it. I have found the following three links for calico fabric here on the Pub: Calico Jack's calico fabric and bandannas Museum of Printed Textiles of Mulhouse museum shop Calico Corner Online This morning I found the Saffron Marigold website. They’re a company in India who block print the old fashioned way. They don’t make anything really up a pirate’s alley, but of all things their 27” square cushion covers seem like they could be easily fashioned into a bandana or neckerchief. I know that some pirates traveled far i…

It has some stand alone stuff off the earthnc site as well as a forum..and the GE tools let you navigate and plan trips and dump them to GPS. Theres Marine Charts, wreck maps, NOAA stuff, Dive sites, Shipping channels, river maps, Marine weather reports, ship tracking etc.. Theres a LOT of info here whether you sail, dive or are an armchair navigator. Maybe I'll find me some treasure ARRRRRR!!!

So I find myself looking at Jas Townsend's 18th Century Mens' Clothing and much of it is labeled "1750s" or "1770s" and then some of it is labeled "18th century". Will any of that garb work with a Golden Age pirate costume? Is the 1750s Waistcoat really that different? How about the 18th Century Workshirt - Blue Check? You know, how much of their merchandise fits? I'm really just wondering how much fudge there is when shopping for Jas garb. Keep in mind that I'm not going for strict period but I want to come close to proper. If you all are wondering why I'm so full of questions recently, it's because my tax rebate and economic stimulus check are going towards a full set …

Again, too many projects, not enough time... Here is another antique ax head (head only, no shaft) This thing is a monster... Not all Boarding Axes were hatchet like affairs, some were robust and had handles of almost 3 feet (Gilkerson Boarders Away Vol1 pg 30-32) This would make a perfect el-grande boarding ax. The head alone weighs just under 5lbs and the length from tip of spike to edge of blade is 13" Handle socket is rectangular and is 1 1/4" X 2". If you have skills with a grinder or with blacksmithing, this would be a perfect project. $45 Shipped PM me... Paypal preferred

Since I finally got my forge up and running, and can't afford to commission a cutlass from Old Dominion Forge, I decided to try my hand at forging my own guard for an old cutlass/saber blade I had. Here's a picture of what kind of sword it used to be, except the guard was all screwed up on it: Therion Arms claims it's a circa 1870 training cutlass/saber. The guard was all sorts of screwed up on mine, and I'd had it since I was 14. I re-shaped the tip of the blade a bit (blade is VERY sturdy), then forged it into the following, taking inspiration from Old Dominion. The guard is forged from steel, and the handle is burned, burnished, and polished Antler: …

I'm going to use my tax return to buy a cutlass and I am toying with the idea of ordering two instead of one to be even more fearsome. I currently have no gear for wearing even one sword, so I'm in a good position to buy whatever is needed to wear two. The problem I have is I have no idea what to buy or where to look to carry two swords. Anyone have any ideas? Would I wear two baldrics criss-crossing my body? Is two swords a bad idea for a pirate?

Does anyone know where to get a quality, period(-ish) wig? I don't mean a long-haired wig, I have long hair already. But rather, long flowing curls like those also worn in the Victorian era and by English judges. Someone knows what I mean, right?
