Hello, Ive been a lurker here for the past several weeks and need some expertise from you all. I am leaving to visit Virginia next week and plan on getting down toward Williamsburg and Norfolk, are there any sites, etc that are worth going to? Is there anything at the location where Blackbeard's head was displayed? Any pirate graves? etc. Thank You. Barbosa

Okay.. I'll repost this one too. I want to work on trying to find a date and time when as many of us as possible can get together and meet. Perhaps a place where we could set up an overnight camp. Do some open fire cooking, story telling, drinking etc..... Anyhow, what I need is for everyone interested to post where you live ( city and state) and the best months out of the year for you. Also, if you can travel at all, that would be good to know. I will try to find a place that is some sort of mid point for as many of us as possible. I know that we are pretty well scattered, but, I will do my best. This will take some time to work out, so do not expect this to be ready for…

In my many years on the ocean, have have been to many places and seen many interesting sights. The Admiral and I are currently landlocked,(but not for long) I want to find the ocean locations members have been to. My personal ports of call include St Lucia, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Cancun, Bahama, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Harbor of NY Cape Ann, Ports of New Hampshire. In all of these ports, I have spent time under the sea searching for my gold lost in a previous time.

As the 2nd Annual Nishna River Renaissance Faire approacheth, I, as the vendor coordinator, am disappointed in that I have no PYRATE MERCHANTS. I can't vend at this faire, because I've been sucked into the administration end of things. All things pyratical are welcome, and most especially WEAPONS, ARRRR  Hear my call, all ye pirates of the prairies! Nishna is held in Avoca, IA (40 miles east of Omaha) on the first weekend in October. We have a definite pyrate theme building this year, so ye'll feel at home.

Every year my family takes a road/camp trip (not much actual camping, but the tent makes for a cheap hotel.) This year we're hitting the coast, starting around Virginia and working our way south to our final destination - Cumberland Island in Georgia. Anyone have any suggested locations we should hit along this route? I know there's some piratey things on Ocracoke Island, and we might try hitting that if we can figure out the ferry schedule. The Dismal Swamp sounds intriguing, though I don't know if it's much to see. What else should we seek out? We'll be travelling the week of July 14.

Yup, we're back from our week-long excursion to the East Coast. Our original plan was to plow through the land-locked states from Milwaukee to the Hampton Roads area in Virginia, and then toodle southward to our final destination of St. Mary's Georgia. I started off the day of the trip making a last-minute run to the bookstore to get some reading material for m'self and the missis. Many thanks to all those who posted their recommendations - alas, none of the top-picks were to be found, so I was left with just my wits and luck to pick an appropriate book. I ended up getting her "The Sea Wife" by Holly Cook, which I'm told turned out to have a decent story, though just a h…

With all the traveling this time of year, here is a cool destination if you find yourself on the Del/Mar/Va Coast. About 1/2 mile from the Maryland/Delaware border on Costal Highway, there is a store called Sea Shell City. The upper level is the DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. It is free, and donations are accepted to keep the museum running. Please check out the link: http://www.discoversea.com/Homex.html The owner loves going on "treasure hunts" on the shores of Delaware with his group of people armed with metal detectors, please check for scheduled times for this on the website. Hope You enjoy the Ocean City - Fenwick Island area! Katey O'T

We are really lucky being able to have a business that allows us to live on a boat, dabble in pirate lore while meeting great people... though sadly we seldom get folks down here who are interested in things Pyratical! Well except for the rum drinking... In case there are any folk who would be interested in charters with a pirate theme or just want to use a bit of pirate research as an excuse for a week in paradise on the waters where it all happened we'd be happy to help! Treasure Island Casino's new image

Las Vegas casino Treasure Island sheds old image Associated Press LAS VEGAS -- For years, the Treasure Island hotel-casino -- with its pyrotechnic pirate show and menacing marquee -- has carried the reputation as a Disney-esque destination for families. Never mind it happens to be smack in the middle of Sin City and the casino specializes in adult activities, where gambling and alcohol abound. "We never catered to kids," Treasure Island President Scott Sibella said recently. "We are here to serve adults. But you just can't go out and tell people they can't bring their kids." Now, as Las Vegas hotels have added swinging adult clubs and pushed the envelope with risq…

This was passed on to me by me good friend Joe Row. --Jamaica Rose "Why We Love Sailing" PRESEASON REFRESHER COURSE To best prepare yourself for the sailing season I recommend these time tested exercises: 1. Buy a case of beer, sit it in a very warm place for a several hours, then drink it. 2. Apply sunscreen to your face in streaks and sit in front of a sun lamp for two hours. 3. Sit on a bench with large metal screws, bolts and other fixtures that protrude into your butt and legs, stare straight up into the sun for two hours. For a more robust workout, invite 4 friends to come over and yell at you the whole time. 4. Go to bank and withdraw $1,000 - then light i…

We just got back from a short vacation in St. Augustine, FL. Mates, what a wonderful place it is! We live in New Orleans, and it reminded us of the French Quarter, without a modern city around it! There's the Fort; the Weapons Museum; ships of various types offering tours of various types, inclding a Pirates Cruise! There are several Haunted tours; the Spanish Village, where you can see living history interpreters doing leather work, blacksmithing, candlemaking, etc. We even saw manatees, and dolphins, come right in to port. On Fridays and Saturdays a group called the Bilge Rats sings sea shanteys at the Spanish Taverm. Unfortunately, we had to catch an earlier plane…

I am active on another board and someone there assumed I knew about a place called the HMS Bounty in L.A. - a bar. Has anyone heard of it, is it worth bothering with and where is it located?

Any mates live in the St. Augustine, FL area, or spent much time there? Janet and I are taking a vacation there later this month; no particular itinerary. We're interested in any tips you might have about anything piratical or nautical in the area. Capt. William

I'm going on two back to back cruises on the S/S Norway on the week of Septembe 21 and 28. The ship stops in Philipsburg, St. Maartin as well as St. Thomas, and I'm wondering if anyone here may know of any locations of Piratical interest that I should try to see during the 8 hours I'm in those ports? [On the side nite, I wanted my first cruise to be on a tallship, but a regular steamship cruise liner will suffice. LOL.] Also, BTW, if anyone else is going on that cruise on either of the two weeks I'm going, shoot me a line, so we can meet up and share a pint of rum. LOL. Morick Towain [Edit: Oops. I made some errors, including spelling and what one of the ports I'm …

Next time you're in Charleston SC, you MUST visit the Queen Anne's Revenge. (I-26 West to I-526, east towards Mt. Pleasant and Exit 24 on Daniel Island. Turn right on Fairchild Street. Queen Anne's Revenge is located beside the Hampton Inn. ) It's a pirate themed restaurant, but based on actual historical fact, not just parrots and eye-patches. It features a museum in front, and the dining area in back. And it has some of the most amazing food! We went last year during Spoleto, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. www.qarevenge.com Fair winds, Mad Kestrel Privateer #9, IFoRP Captain of the Thanos

Dante's is a wonderful experience - a fondue restaurant where in one section you can dine inside a ship's hull over a pool of alligators, in another you can listen to a live jazz band, in another saddle up to a ship's bar, in another area the motif is of a port town... truly a pyrate pleaser. It was darker and moodier (a little better) but then burned... so it's been reconstructed/renovated, and they did a great job. Check it out next time you're in Atlanta... http://www.dantesdownthehatch.com
