I was just this morning reading an article on Sam Houston which was suggesting that Houston was great, but he kept slaves and that was a bad thing. Now, I'm not suggesting that slavery is good or anything, but in Houston's time, it wasn't necessarily considered totally bad. So I thought that the author of the article was making an illegitimate judgment based on his current temporal state creating an error on his part which I hoped he might some day overcome to the benefit of readers everywhere in better understanding the past. I was just reading about this and thought it was sort of interesting. I guess I will explain further after people get tired of answering the question. With no further information forthcoming, no matter how relevant it may seem to your decision, what would you answer in response to the following question: Suppose you pay $50 for a theater ticket but you lose the ticket on the way in -- will you return to the ticket window and buy another ticket if you have a $50 bill in your pocket?

If anyone would be so kind as to remember m'mum in your prayers, it would be greatly appreciated. I have had my mother into the ER twice in the last week. They can't find the cause, keep sending her home but, she keeps getting worse. As the current problem isn't enough she is now scheduled for a skin biopsy next week. Trying to work and take care of things for her is wearing on me, but, need to do what I need to do. As stated any thoughts, prayers etc for the doctor's guiding grace would be greatly appreciated.

So, if a mod knows where the old thread went to and wants to merge them, that would be terrific.] Yesterday, in Chapters, I picked up a hard-cover copy of Jimmy Buffet's recent novel, A Salty Piece of Land, on sale for $7. So I'm sure I haven't mentioned it over a dozen times here, but my sister has finally managed to get her adoption through. They're in town for the week (just the girls now, but my sister will be here as well on Friday), so the excitement has started. Just wanted to share a few of the early pics... Okay, I know that this is not related to the GAOP Era, however, I was hoping that a few of you may be able to help me with my questions. Do any of you know of a few good books I could buy concerning The Lusitania? As well as any books on the Great Influenza? Historical of Historical Fiction book suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Also, any books on WWI or WWII that would also be good to read. Despite some serious backsliding in the last few months, and after several weeks of recent holiday gastrointestinal excess, I've managed to end 2007 some twelve pounds lighter than I began it. However, that means I didn't reach my goals for 2007. I'm ready to get back to healthy eating and exercise; my body is actually telling me it doesn't want any more sweets, which is a novel experience for me. Who wants to sign the articles for this year?

One of the TO7S pirates is trying to get some pewter dishes shipped back thisaway (SF Bay Area) but the person selling them doesn't want to ship them - she wants them picked up. At any rate, is anyone going to be in the vicinity of Virginia Beach who can help out by picking these up and then shipping them?
