Aye, stay clear...... Definitions of a siren: 1. a woman-like creature who caused the wreck of ships and death of men by the use of their sweet singing and instrumental playing 2. a dangerous beautiful woman 3. Greek root meaning to bind or attach 4. something which makes a loud warning sound often found on police cars, ambulances and fire trucks The sirens were the daughters of the sea god Phorcys or Achelous, the river god, and Malpomene, the muse of tragedy. I was re-reading my Sand County Almanac with essays from Round River and re-discovered many very true observations. This in particular I felt should be posted for us all to reflect on what we do: On hobbies..."You do not annex a hobby, the hobby annexes you. To prescribe a hobby would be akin to prescribing a wife--with about the same probabilityof a happy outcome. Let it be understood then, that this is merely an exchange of reflections among those already obsessed--for better or for worse--with the need of doing something queer. Let others listen if they will, and profit from our behavior if they can... ...A hobby is a defiance of the contemporary. It is …

A friend sent me the following and thought it might be uplifting for others currently going through rough seas ... Three Bullets There once was a man who had nothing for his family to eat. He had an old rifle and three bullets. So, he decided that he would go out hunting and kill some wild game for dinner. As he went down the road, he saw a rabbit. He shot at the rabbit and missed it. The rabbit ran away. Then he saw a squirrel and fired a shot at the squirrel and missed it. The squirrel disappeared into a hole in a cottonwood tree. As he went further, he saw a large wild 'Tom' turkey in the tree, but he had only one bullet remaining. A voice spoke to him and …

I'm just curious how everyone is making out with gas prices, etc., and if any of the slowdown is affecting you yet. Here in NJ, gasoline is $3.05/gal (and that includes madatory full-serve), yet I cross the stateline to NY and it is $3.56/gal (self serve) . I just found out my bank (Citibank) is posting a $5.2 bil. loss. Things sound kind of shaky lately.

at 4:30 or so this morning, a small earthquake, around 5.2, was felt in West Salem, IL. It was felt in Il, KY, IA, and other places. Evidently too many pirates left for Piratecon and the earth gods were mythed. (sp) No deaths so far, just some building damages. It was felt pretty hard in KY, and bridges are being checked for cracks. If you want to see a small live feed, go to http://www.14wfie.com/ and just for you historians, :) its also the anniversary of the San Fransisco earthquake, that devastated the town.

Highwaymen = Dry Land Pirates! I'm a big fan of the movie Plunkett & Macleane, starring Jonny Lee Miller & Robert Carlyle. So, I've made a fan video using clips from the movie, and set it to one of my all-time favourite songs, "Stand & Deliver" by Adam & the Ants. Here's the link to watch it on You Tube: Plunkett & Macleane: "Stand & Deliver!" Warning: Rated PG for a simulated sex scene and one muffled naughty word. Cheers, Hester (a.k.a. "Pyrate Anny")

Tonight marks the 96th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Before my obsession with pirates, I was a Titanic trivia junkie. I don't remember as much as I used to (I could practically recite the passenger list) but it's still an area of interest for me. And I always mark the occasion of the sinking by watching the A & E documentary "Titanic: Death of a Dream". Anyone else in the Pub have an interest in this historic event?

Well, it looks like Johnny is stepping out of Pyrate Character and into the 1930s Gangster Mode! The film he is doing is called, "Public Enemies" based on the book by Bryan Burrough of the same name. It is scheduled for release in 2009. The story is about the Feds who try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillilnger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s. I understand they are looking for vintage cars of the time period - hmm...have to call Master March to see if he'd like to lend his car to the movie! Johnny will be in Wisconsin from April until the end of June (whereabouts unknown - of course) but wouldn't it …

Mates, keep Merrydeath in yer thoughts and prayers today. She's having surgery and she'll be out of commission for at least four weeks. Fortunately for her, the surgery will be performed on dry land and NOT by the Fool's Gold surgeon Sjöröveren. But she'll still need all of our good wishes. Thanks, mates.

It is time to take responsibility for my actions. I must take this oppotunity to make a full and sincere appology to all for my past actions. I will not make excuses, but it is important to me that all my freinds and acquaintences here understand my situation. For those I have attacked and spoken rudely to, I wish ask your forgiveness. For the past two years I have been adjusting from working man to invalid to college student. During this time I have recieved several prescriptions of various pain meds, none of which I can continue. These have caused extreme highs and lows and have certainly influenced my behavior. Yesterday I decided that dealing with the pain is p…
