I've read a little about "Bas Lag". Thought I might try a few other Steampunk novels. What is your favorite and why?

I have two books coming in the mail via amazon I am curious to know some opinions of. The two books are "Silver" by Edward Chupack, and "The Pirate Primer" by George Choundas. Has anyone read them? Any thoughts? I am also curious about "Flint and Silver", but have neither read, nor ordered it as of yet.

Not really sure how this one started out, I think it was just a late night project of "let's see what happens when we glue this to that!" but I am almost finished with my small steampunked snub nosed .38. It's been fun to work on, but not something that really fits into the rest of my costume pieces so if anyone is interested in it let me know. http://www5.snapfish.com/snapfish/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=1733374028/a=2687490028_2687490028/otsc=SHR/otsi=SALBlink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

So I don't know if ths will work withall toy guns, but I made an intersesting discovery while taking apart a toy ray gun for a steampunk project. It had a cool looking white tube at the top that lets of a very small red light and then a very annoying sound effect. Neat thing happened when I cut the wires attached to the speaker and took the speaker out. When you pull the trigger the light was now 70% brighter. Guess it ad something to do with the power not having to split between the speaker and the LED. If you have a chance try it and see if it works on your next project.

I found a part from an antique victrolia at the flea market this week. It has a very unique brass cover over the speaker piece that is about 4 inches wide and it has a perfect indent in the middle in the shape of a circle that hopefully will fit a watch face. Thing only cost me $2 so not too worried if it doesn't work. Want to attach it to a small to medium sized leather bracer with some copper wire trim. I'll post pics once I have the piece all cleaned up.

I've decided, with much gratitude to Patrick Hand, to start setting up a hopefully inexpensive workshop for making my steampunk equipment. Since I'll be just starting out with this for the most part, I thought I'd make a thread to discuss the tools and set up often used for these projects and perhaps projects that are similar. It's just forge discussion in general. So far, here is a list I have in no particular order of things to get and some things I already have. Propane Torch Dremel Grinder Propane Tank Drill Hammers Knives Carving tools Saw Anvil Workbench Some miscellaneous equipment for specific projects And red bull or coffee(caffeine fuels the imagination) Is…

Right now nobody here has the funds for it, but we can start on the blueprints and dream about the possibilities. Basically, my brother and I are going to work on buying then steampunking a Delorean. I know how to refinish the outside and I have some idea about the inside, my brother knows how to make it steam powered and even set up a device to split the necessary hydrogen from oxygen in water. However, we will most likely just buy natural hydrogen gas since using the mentioned device would be very demanding on electricity. Here's a pic for anyone who doesn't know what a Delorean looks like. In case you don't recognize it, it's the same vehicle used as the time machine…

Due to a failing economy with little hope for recovery and a history to support the possibility of future failure even after recovery, I think it is possible that piracy may someday see another golden age. Regardless of that, what do you think about the possibility of sky pirates someday becoming a reality? Whether it is steam, heat, or electricity that fuels the ship, airships are possible. I don't mean just planes, I mean dirigibles and flying fortresses. The Germans actually would have had one in WW2, if not for a problem with using hydrogen(from what I was told). If ever my fleet were to take to the seas, at least one airship could be convenient for a number of rea…

I have a list of things I already know the location of and am looking at, but I'm wondering, are there better stores? Here are the links for the items I'm looking at. Pocketwatch Badge Another Badge Aether Monitor Compass Goggles I intend to customize the goggles a bit. It has an elastic band and, although that's good for goggles, leather is preferable. What I intend to do is combine them, a short elastic piece will attach a leather strap at both it's ends to the goggles. I already have the base outfit decided on, it's a more traditional, and historically accurate, pirate outfit. A red swordsman's shirt, black drawstring pants, blue captain's coat, renaissance bo…

Blackbead Books is proud to announce that one of our poets, Stephen Sanders, won an "Editor's Choice" Award at this year's Canis Latran Writing Competition at Weatherford College. The poem he took this honor with is "It's In Me Blood", an old pirate's reminiscence of a mate named "Ben Hawkins." "It's In Me Blood" was originally published in Echoes From Other Worlds. The Award included a certificate and publication in the annual Weatherford College anthology of poetry and fiction. The poem is also a part of the Brotherhood of the Gulf's stage show entitled "A Night at Devil's Tavern." For more information, and to purchase a copy of the book, catch up with Blackbead Bo…
