B)Circle ‘round mates and let me tell you a scary story. Scary, but true. True as the deep blue. Let this be a lesson for ye so that ye do not suffer my fate. There is a company out there in this cyber world call Pirate Mod. Now they claim to be pirate friendly. But they are just pirates of the worst kind. I ordered a framed “Pirate Scroll” from this outfit back on May 31, 2006 as a Father’s Day gift for meself. They immediately billed me Master of Cards and I had no further response from them for two months.

After repeated e-mails, they finally responded to tell me that the frames were backordered. I accepted the response as truthful. About two weeks later, in mid-July, I finally received me Pirate Scroll. I had a place of honor already designated for the scroll. I picked up the poorly taped box and heard the familiar tinkling sound of broken glass. I opened the box to find the scroll crumpled and sliced to ribbons by the shards of broken glass of the framed pirate scroll. I immediately called Pirate Mod only to get their voice mail. I e-mailed them so that they would have the details before them. I explained to them the problem and even offered to send it back. I advised them that the frame was in good shape, I even offered to replace the glass meself to avoid another catastrophe, just please send me the scroll. Pirate Mod, however, does not respond to customer inquiries.

A week later they finally responded. “No problem” they said. “We trust you.” “We will send you another.” “We will even send you a T-shirt at no charge.” Soooo, I bought a new glass at my expense at local craft shop for $45.00, placed it in the frame and I hanged the empty frame on the wall, eagerly anticipating my Father’s Day Pirate Scroll. That was the last time I heard from them.

Well, six months after the original order and being billed $85.00 for the item and four months since being told they would ship the replacement to me, I have not yet received the Pirate Scroll or the free T-Shirt as compensation for my troubles. What has added insult to injury, is that they refuse to respond to my inquiries. I e-mail them daily now, and they have yet to either respond to my inquiries or send my replacement scroll. Caveat emptor me fellow pirates. Caveat emptor. This company is not trustworthy.

Ahoy Matey,

While I am not the customer service person for PirateMod, I *do* work for them. I just spoke with our bookkeeper and she cannot find any records of an exchange/damaged issue this old which has not been dealt with. If you are e-mailing them daily I would hazrd a guess that for some reason your emails have not been received (spam filter?). They can often be slow to respond - but not often THAT slow! Have you tried calling them? PirateMod does indeed process literally THOUSANDS of orders a month to happy pirates everywhere, so I really have a hard time believing they are "knowingly" shafting you over a simple poster!

Anyway... I would like to help you. Please email me directly and I will do my best to see that this is taken care of for you:

stumpy@piratemod.com

Cheers!

I posted last year to beware of this company. They cheated me out of a T-shirt, which I sent back because it was too small. Said they would send another, and that was the last I heard from them. I got no response after repeated phone calles and e-mails, and demands to have the cost of the shirt credited to my card.

I would NOT recomend buying ANYTHING from these people!!! B)

On the other side o' the coin, I'd like to pipe in, in favor of these good pirates! I've bought stuff from them for years as have many of my circle o' friends and have heard nary a word negative about them.

As a retail store owner myself, I know from first-hand experience that you may send out a hundred, hundred items that are loved and never hear a word. But when there's a problem...MAN do you hear about it! :)

Don't get me wrong...I am not dismissing your bad experience, but just wanted to put in my two cents as someone who thinks this company does a good job.

Hummm ... It kinda strikes me as a bit odd..... but both of the positive post for Pirate Mod are from new accounts....and they both joined the same day.... 22 November 06.........

Patrick, you should be a detective. I, too, noticed that immediately.

Interestingly enough..... I checked out thier profiles..... No Information in both of them..... but both posters are in same time zone..... Looked up Pirate Mod.... They are out of Southern California..... same time zone...... Interesting ?

Something fishy going on.....

If Pyrate Mod cares about thier reputation, they should contact ( PM would be easy enough) and fix the problems that Yersinia Pestis and False Ransom are having with thier orders.......

I don't think anyone here will deal with Pirate Mod untill they do........

Ho and Avast!

I don't know why you think it would be odd that *I* signed up to post! A friend that frquents this board pointed it out and I wanted to be helpful to this unhappy customer, Incidentally, PirateMod DID contact them and their problem was taken care of the same day. I am sure that as soon as they receive it andpost again they will let you know this and that it was very much to thier satisfaction!

Just FYI: PirateMod is located in Petaluma. That's Northern California

Cool.... outta faireness, that is why I kept looking back in this thread. A business can't afford to have dissatisfied costomers. Or they will post thier dissatisfaction on the Internet....One negitive postin in a Forum, maybe... but two...

I'm glad that the problems are being taken care of, and I'm sure when everything is "fixed", there will be post all about it....

I always thought Petaluma was in Southern California.... did a quick search, and found out that it's North of the Bay Area........ ;)

Sorry, but I haven't heard a bloody thing from them in over a year. No one has PM'd me about this since this thread started, so I'll be believing when I see it. Like I said, a year ago I e-mailed them, called them on the phone and spoke to someone who assured me all would be taken care of, and that's as far as it went. Since then, nothing!

And Patrick, thanks for the back up!

There's a lot of bashin' of PirateMod goin' on here. Perhaps it's justified, perhaps it's not.

While it's always important to consider the "word on the street" about a particular company's business ethics, it's also important to remember that when a company has thousands of customers, you shouldn't let the experiences of one or two become the face of the entire clientelle.

I don't know the specifics of these False Ransom's shopping experiences with PirateMod beyond what they've said. I hope that PirateMod succeeds in addressing all their concerns. But I also know that I've dealt with PirateMod myself now and again over the past several years and I've never had reason to question their business ethics.

A dissatisfied customer is generally well justified in sharing their experience with others, but those of us who've only learned of the problems second and third hand should probably exercise some caution before joining in the mudslinging or demanding PirateMod defend themselves publicly.

I'm sure PirateMod has thousands of satisfied customers. I'd be one of them, as I liked the shirt I got, just that it was the wrong size. It took me two months of phone calls to get them to tell me what proceedure they required to return the shirt. When I finally got ahold of someone, the proceedure turned out to be easy - return the one shirt, we'll send you a biggger one. I paid for the return postage. Two month go by, no shirt. I call, I e-mail, I get apologies, but still no shirt. After six months, I asked for a refund. No communication. This company had my address, phone number, and e-mail address. If there was a problem, a back order, whatever, they could have notified me and I'd have rolled with it. I got nothing. After a year, I gave up, marked it as a loss, and posted a complaint on the Pub for buyers to beware (Which I told them I would do on one of the last e-mails I sent them).

I admit, I was mad about it, but hadn't thought about it for a long time until I saw this post by Yersinia Pestis. I wanted her to know that she wasn't the only one.

I'm not bashing a company just to be spiteful. I'm warning people that they might have problems. I would suspect that if two people have posted their concern on the Pub, then there are others who have had problems who haven't because they are not Pub members.

If people order stuff from PirateMod and have no problems - wonderful, I'm happy for them.

False Ransom - I wasn't trying to belittle the frustations of your experience. By all means, if you've had a crappy time dealing with PirateMod, it's appropriate for you to share.

I was only questioning an attitude I was sensing from this thread in general - and not from you specifically - that your own experience somehow meant PirateMod owed us all an explanation, or that otherwise uninvolved members of our community should act in the role of moderators between PirateMod and any dissatisfied customers. PirateMod needs to square with you - not with me, nor with anyone else reading this thread.

Because of my Bilgemunky.com reviews, I've occasionally been asked by strangers to act as liaison between themselves and companies I reviewed. Sometimes the business was apparently in the wrong, sometimes the customer apparently was (notice that I use the word "apparently" - because honestly, how can I really know?)

Actually, in most cases it's been a simple misunderstanding between good people. But whatever the facts of the matter, I've learned the hard way that all I can do as a friendly 3rd party is make sure the lines of communication are open, and then step out of the picture and hope for the best. Passing judgement on a company based on the claims of a customer, or vice-versa, is a fast-track to a shit-storm.

I agree with you completely, Bilgemunky - and causing a shit-storm was NOT my intent! It was more like lending moral support to someone else with a similar experience.

False Ransom, ( and Patrick )

I think you misunderstood...PirateMod has contacted and fixed things for Yersinia Pestis - the person who started this thread and who it was all focussed on in the first place!

False Ransom: I *AM* happy to also play liason and see that your issue is dealt with as well. Please email me with your name and a good explanation of what happened and I will see what I can find out and do for you... it sounds to me like it was simple an exchange that got forgotten about or misplaced. It HAS been known to happen...

Also just re-readin this thread and wanted to comment on this:

>As a retail store owner myself, I know from first-hand experience that you may send out a hundred, hundred items that are loved and never hear a word. But when there's a problem...MAN do you hear about it!

That's actually not true with us. As a matter of fact, we DO get lots and lots of POSITIVE emails all the time. We have a great bulliton board (and email folder) chock-full o' very complimentary emails and you wouldn't believe how many people send us photos of themselves anf their families in our shirts.

Probably not appropriate to post all of those here...but I'm just sayin'

I am pleased to inform the patrons of the pub that PirateMod has made reparations for their oversight. Stumpy and PirateMod have generously extended an olive branch, which I have graciously accepted. I regret that I had to make the previous posting; however, after repeated attempts to contact this sutler without a response, I felt I had no other recourse.

I must say to all who read this posting that I love PirateMod's artwork and the fine quality of product they offer. I hope to renew our business relationship. I also hope that False Ransom can post a satisfactory conclusion to her saga. Bilgemonkey, Thank you for your assistance.

Respectfully,

This is to let all in the Pub know that PirateMod has made good their promise to send me the shirt I had ordered so long ago. In addition, they sent along many other "goodies" to make up for all the time and trouble it took to straighten this problem out. I am thrilled with what they sent, and am now a happy camper. Cudo's to PirateMod and Pirate Stumpy for giving me a wonderful early Christmas present.

That's what I like about the Pub, among a lot of other things. You have a problem with something, people back you up, help you get it straigtened out.

As Martha would say - The Pub, it's a good thing! :P:P
