See, that tells us all kinds of interesting things about you Capn Bob! Plus you paint the picture well. (Sometimes I wish I could be idealistic, young and stupid like I was in college. Although I'll admit we never came up with anything like that.)

From my college days (This is a pic in Old Main at Wayne State University. A bunch of engineering students and myself used to hang out in a disused stage on the top floor of the building, drink Jack Daniels (which is awful stuff to drink straight) and talk about life, the universe and everything. One day we found a chest of costumes...)

John: "I don't know."

Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

Mine?

Basic Bach.

Basic shades.

Bach; two basics.

Have you ever read Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter? It's an intensely intellectual and bizarre book...so you might find it interesting.

For having recently "met", you know me too well already!

As to GEB, it had only recently been published when I was studying epistemology. I started on it, but became distracted. Perhaps it is time to revisit it? Thanks for reminding me of it!

Well, credit where due, it was JC that had Fred the Turtle Avatar...as for me, I came up with The Ceremony, the resulting ELFSATs, the Elven Liberation Front, and of course, Gamblelouse Green...I also attended a few classes in college, but really, who wants to hear about boring stuff like that...

It's an easy book to get distracted from. Sometimes I think the author got distracted and decided to wander off on some tangent or another for the heck of it. (You can get it extremely cheaply on Amazon used. I love Amazon used.)

We really must meet some day. Then we can drink heartily (preferably single malt scotch... almost anything but JD straight) and finally have that discussion on religion that you appear to be itching to engage in. (No, not here. I can put out some flame wars and I can't put out others. That one's most likely an "other.")

If you ever do plan meet up, let me know ahead of time. I want to sit and listen in. Maybe I'll nod my head once in a while, but mostly, I'll just listen and smile.

You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott.

Oh, no. I'm not a fan of Scotch. I'll sip from a nice glass of Merlot instead. I'll leave the Scotch for you and the boys. :P

If you look real close, you might see his nose.

An' did anyone else notice..... when he's stealin' hats, his nose grows longer.....Styinkokieoo ?...... :P ....

Mine is also pretty easy. It's me firing a flintlock (which happens to be Stynky's) for the first time on board the schooner Wolf at PIP 07. Although you can't see him, Stynky is standing right behind me. If you look real close, you might see his nose.

Ah, it sort of appears that the thief is worried about others stealing his stuff, then! (Next time you have it, you should run away from him and ship it home UPS. I know where the UPS stores are in Key West.)

Mine is (and has for a LONG while been) a reproduction of a surviving example of a flag of the Covenanters (Scottish history stuff).

It says: "Covenants For Religion King And Kingdomes"

I need to re-size that picture. It doesn't quite fit the de-motivational poster template.

But I don't have PhotoShop on my work PC.

Mine is me, dressed in my Skirted River Pirate outfit. A rag tag collection of toy store crap, old halloween costumes, wife's cheap jewelry and my Leinster District tartan kilt.

Being broke most of the time, I have to create my costumes from what I have.

A gypsy reading a cristal ball ( I don't know how to do it, but you can learn much from someone's eyes) or most likely a spread of tarot cards... One of many gypsy pics I have found on my "internet wanders"

I have at least 3 sets of tarot cards but only one is really "mine" is a old traditional one that use to be my fathers...

It be me boat, Crescent Wench. A Kenner Privateer, sailed along the eastern shores of Florida.

I didn't know you had a sailboat! Very cool. You should bring it down to PiP if you can figure out the details.

Mine used to be my favorite pic of me as Blackbeard at the Gold Coast Pirate Festival but since I shaved off the beard I decided to change it to the pic James Callahan took of me at the Hampton Festival back in 2009

I have already checked out the possibilities.

Travel time by water: 1 week each way (not counting bad weather).

Travel cost by semi-truck: $3,000 (plus crane to load & unload).

Fort Taylor camping experience: Priceless.
