Morgan Dreadlocke Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Fallering' links from the "Songs of the Sea "site, it seems that the song be evolvin' from one 'o the Childs ballads called 'the Elfin Knight". Lyrics has ta do wi' a lass doin' impossible tasks ta keep from bein' married off. T'was an interestin' read. PIRATES! Because ye can't do epic shyte wi' normal people.
CaptainSatan Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Fer all of you Texas Pyrates... The weekend of May 19-20 will be the Scarborough Faires official pyratin' weekend. My only problem wi' Scarborough is that it closes so damn early (7PM!) and there's no camping. -CS http://www.scarboroughrenfest.com/index.html Pronounced: SCARRRRborough As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
PirateSSe Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I live in Scarborough, Maine, but not for long. Thankfully, that's history....
Hetha Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I have many fond memories of that place. Too bad, they're all far behind me. Some of them include camping out, shame they don't do that anymore! OOps! That was my outside voice;)! "Big on self-reliance and personal responsibility. Down on culture of victimology. Nobody owes you a thing and life isn't always fair. Spend a little more time being grateful and less time bitching and you just might find a smile replacing that scowl. Being miserable doesn't make you 'deep;' it makes you insufferable."-The Thirsty Celt ~Sail it like you stole it!~ "Silence is Golden; Duct Tape is Silver"
Manglin' Maggi Maloney Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 If any of y'all are ever in the vicinity of Waxahachie, Texas, I highly recommend this Scarborough Faire:http://www.scarboroughrenfest.com/Enjoy, The Pirate King www.ThePirateKing.com YAY! i grew up in Waxahachie! but sadly, never got the chance to go to the Faire drats, and i had a childhood friend who loved to play a Scottish Wench there as well. *sigh* maybe one day.. i miss the place sorely.
BluePuppy Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 my boyfriend goes to school in Scarborough, and the first time i went to see him, i think i was there just after the little thing they still have to commemorate the actual fair i wish i could've gone, just to say i had =p anyway, thanks for the history on this song :) Scarborough is a lovely town, it's quiet and full of old people, but it's really nice. The ocean, of course, lots of trees =p http://www.scarborough.co.uk/ if you want to see the town as it is today, there's its website :)
BriarRose Kildare Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Thank you Blue Puppy for the website. I have it booked marked. And it was a great find for me too, because the website also include a section on the Bronte sisters. Perhaps one day I will get to go there to Scarborough. I will put it on me wish list for sure. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. The Dimension of Time is only a doorway to open. A Time Traveler I am and a Lover of Delights whatever they may be. There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls.
