Cap'n Pete Straw
Alas.. it be a work day, and I have not decided whether I am wearing my entire Pirate kit downtown Chicago (on the Metra train) or not... Actually, everyday to me is "Talk Like A Pirate Day" and my coworkers (and wife) are rather sick and tired of it. If nothing else, it's Grogtinis in the evening! "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... "He's a pirate dancer, His dances are funny... 'Cuz he's only got one shoe! Ahhrrr!" Cap'n Pete Straw
Would it be utterly inappropriate to state that I plan to spend the evening watching my DVD copy of the XXX porn movie "Pirates"? It would? Okay then, I won't mention it. Actually, it's "Talk Like A Pirate Day," not "Somthing Else Like a A Pirate Day" ... and this Pub is generally PG-13 content, so forget I mentioned anything.... Now, where's that "DELETE" button? Ah, here it is -- Oh wait! No--- "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... "He's a pirate dancer, His dances are funny... 'Cuz he's only got one shoe! Ahhrrr!" Calico Jack
Bein' as I work at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, NS, we're doing a full "talk like a pirate day" theme at the museum for the full day. That evening, it being a Tuesday, I'll be in full cinematic pirate regalia [as opposed to historical pirate less-regal-ia], for my Ghost and Folklore Tour of the museum. Earlier in the day, I'm at a local elementary school, so I figured I'll just stay in costume and find piratey-type stories for the library "classes." Scupper
I'll be at a local Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Walking around in kit. Trying to get lubbers to buy piratical writings while teaching em the Pirate alphabet, singing chantys and general piratical history. Scupper "That's the navy for you. Rum in the scuppers today. Blood in the scuppers tomorrow."Thrist is a shameless disease. So here's to a shameful cure!"Loyalty, honesty and directness are traits I admire. Insecurity, snipes and disrespect I will not tolerate in the least."
Black Hearted Pearl
I'll be getting ready for the World Famous Ojai Pirate Festival in California that coming weekend. However with it being on Tuesday, I will be dropping by my local elementary school in my pirate stealth outfit. "Is she or isn't she dressed sort of like a pirate?" What? This is the latest fashion from Hollywood, you plastic blondes. Don't you recognize Gwen Stefani's line? ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. William Blydes
Not sure what I’ll be doing this year, but I can sure tell you what I’ve done in the past. Last year I was on course at our Fleet School in Quebec City (yes, it’s on a river that freezes in the winter, it was placed there for political reasons). For the week before I snuck in to class rooms at night and wrote on whiteboards about the day coming up. Some of us posted a list of terminology all around. On the day everyone played along. Even the Sr. Officers. When the Commodore starts talking like a pirate at coffee break in the morning, the more timid officers knew it was fine to play along. The year before I was at a HQ with a Vice Admiral as Commandant. A good fellow who knew how to have fun (as shown at the previous mess dinner where we all got absolutely sloshed). I emailed him a few days before. He set up a meeting for me to brief him on what it was all about. When he saw this was an official event, not just one of my crazy antics – as had happened in the past, he made it official for the HQ! Had his Chief of Staff write a memo for all Directors to follow. CrazyCholeBlack
TLAPD is my grandmother's birthday. I wonder how she'd react if I attend dinner that night in full garb? I wouldn't be the strangest thing I've worn to a family function. Otherwise I usually annoy the Swabbie with my Argh's and Avasts all day long. Smylingsnake
Bein' as i'm workin' as an english teacher in Japan at the moment, i'll have te keep me pirate talkin' under control, at least in the classroom. outside o' classes, though... heh heh heh. i fancy i'll be wearin' me hat and bandanna wi' me suit too, just te get into the right mood and all. it's hard, bein' a pirate in the teachin' world, though i suppose pirate talkin' might not be much of a suprise fer me students, bein' as i'm an Aussie, and as such talk pretty piratey in general. Aye, i be lookin foward te it wi' bated breath! WWCJSD? (What Would Captain Jack Sparrow Do?)
Patrick Hand
I just came up with a realy stupid idea...... If I sober up sooner, I may talk myself out of it..... And it will take some looking through some books, and maybe asking some questions in Capt. Twill..... I use to do American Civil War reenacting.... and about once a year, the unit I was in (14th Tenn. Vol Inf. C.S.A.) would do a weekend, where we ate ony "authentic rations"... Well we ate three days of food in two, so it wasn't %100 authentic.... but it gave us somewhat of an idea about how the soldiers lived..... I have seen the list of what rations were fead to American Sailors durring the Rev. War, and I think I have a list somewhere of what the Royal Navy fead thier sailors durring the F & I War..... Anyway, my idea..... I'm thinking of doing a (work) week (Monday through Friday) (awh heck... maybe an entire week....) eating what would have been eaten by sailors durring the time period..... (and including the RUM ration ...) I'll have to look it up again..... and being the idiot that I am, I will probably do it........ maybe there are other idiots out there that would like to try the same..... so I will post the rations list...... It might be an interesting experience... (but so is hitting your thumb with a hammer..... you learn fast that way....)
Capt Grey
Master Hand, you may just have discovered the latest fad diet! The Pirate Diet. blackjohn
Have none, as of yet. I've got 7 bottles of rum that need drinking... leftover from a housewarming party... and tonight I'm having a 40th Birthday Party for Star Trek (first aired 40 years ago this evening)... if I wasn't having the Trek party, and if it wasn't a Tuesday, I'd have a big party. But there's no "r" in Tuesday, so... and hell... isn't every day talk like a pirate day! My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Ace of Harbor Bay
I'll be riding the ferry into S.F. to work in in full garb. I'll be working all day then I am being paid to deliver a special pirate gift to some guy's girlfriend where she works. And of course talking like a pirate all day. Last year I took the day off and taught folks to talk like a pirate at the pirate store on Valencia in S.F. It's a shop that is a front for an after school reading organization. The kids were great and I wish I could do it again this year. www.pirate4hire.com Pirates of Harbor Bay
