What's your day job

Hey Caraccioli,

What are the benefits like?

Minion-like subservience to your boss, grueling, repetitive offscreen training routines, power over weak minds, access to some wicked-cool technology, instant engendering of fear in the general populace and an almost guaranteed shortened life-span - usually ended by some form of cleaving.

Actually, except for that last one, the benefits are similar to those you get working for the DMV or IRS.

"Am I not?"

Actually I'm one of the guys, who dosn't feel it nesessary to pound my chest and shine my badge on someone's nose every five minutes! :)

Yes I'm far from normal, but I can sleep at night!! :D

As the Bard of Avon wrote in Much Ado About Nothing:

I am an ass.

No, wait; that's not entirely accurate.

I am a dilettante.

I've been a soldier.

I've been an on-air radio personality (read: "DJ").

I've done live sound for bands.

I've been in bands.

I've been a music student.

I've preened golf courses.

I've taught music.

I've studied historiography and history.

I've paved roads.

I've sold calligraphy. Hell, I've chased geese for pens.

I'm a master brewer.

I've been a brewmaster - yes, they are two different things.

I've sold cars.

I've run my own BBS - yes, I'm that old.

I've sold car parts.

I've sold computers.

I've built and maintained websites.

I've written in Turbo Pascal. Don't say it...

I've helped Kass start her business.

I've helped Kass run her business.

I've cleaned Kass's house, and made her dinner.

What does that make me? Kass's wife!

Stand and deliver!

So if you had to pick only one career that you would pursue for the rest of your life, what would you do?

Caraccioli,

Yes. B)

I know it's a cop-out. But I cannot imagine anything more boring than picking one thing and doing it the rest of my life.

If you're going to push me into the corner, though, and force a choice, I'd say "being Kass's partner." We're already partners in life; it's a gas helping to build Reconstructing History into the international multicorporate megalith it deserves to be.

Sweetie, does that make me Steve Jobs?

Stand and deliver!

But I cannot imagine anything more boring than picking one thing and doing it the rest of my life.

As boring as my day job is, the various versions of it that I have had in these last 20 or so years have given me interesting opportunities... I've been paid to read an official Army history book and make maps to go along with it... I've painted censored on Defense Intelligence Agency censored, and created censored censored censored... I've been sent to sea on a survey ship... I('m the pirate who) helped define the US territorial sea... and now I'm working with an underwater archaeologist for 3 months... so as boring jobs go, I guess I've been pretty lucky.

How interesting...My last stint in Higher Academics was as a Mortuary Science Major. Best clients in the world...well behaved; they don't argue and when you tell them to stay someplace they do....at least if nobody moves them. ;)B)

LOL!!! This is quite possibly true, my ex-fiance's father was a Proctologist. **shudder** But, I would say the field that rivals in tales would be Psychologist. I have a friend with a Masters in the field and the tales she could tell. B)

I always thought that, if you were a writer, working as a bartender would give you a life-times worth of stories! <_<

And headaches....lots of those. The money can be grand, but the clients can be a right pain in the arse. ( Which is why I gave it up years ago.) <_<
