Silkie McDonough
Posting some sort of time would be helpful also. I thought the explosion he explosion took place after dark. Bastian was leaving "Sealkie's" when "grayish light now tickling far doorframe" ...I took that as dawn. Cheeky is coming in at "this late hour". I'm so confused! Capt. Sterling
Okay ...I wanted to participate but I can't follow the time or the place of anyone. Could each person who posts from a different location from the post before start their thread with where they are? Maybe make it a different color or bold it please? Um we tried posting time over here for awhile, and it seemed to work, but we stopped. We shall do so again... the thing is since not all the characters interact all the time, we allow folks to deal with time as they seem fit... for instance, Sterling is a few days ahead, after the explosion. Aurore, Cheeky, Burke, Kelly, and the barrister are on Sterling's time.... it is day time there. Sabastian and Pinon are still dealing with the tale end of the night of the explosion and Lady Violet and Spindlethorp have just lived through it... everyone will eventually, if necessary, catch up... so not everyone is playing at the same time frame so posting in the thread itself doesn't always work.... We do this to allow people to post when they can... otherwise we would be waiting for ever for folks to play catch up... Ransom
Okay, I thought Sterling, et al, were only one day ahead. He went off to gaol, I went off to some scurvy inn, Sebastain & Aurore split up. All on the same day/evening. Lady Violet got to the Royal Grace just before the explosion, which I took to be at night? Or late evening of that same day? If that's the case, then she and Spindlethorpe are only about 8 hours behind Sterling, not "a few days." For me, I guess the main question is, when did the explosion take place - day, evening, or night? And how many hours/days have passed since then? My posts can be edited to fit whatever time frame that turns out to be. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... Capt. Sterling
night for the explosion... Sterling has eaten three times... so that puts him at least two to three days ahead... 'Bastian Devareaux
I see we are back to the great time debate.... Shall we just call it Mid Morn towards Noonish? Perhaps that might suit all involved. I have no issues with telling detail in retrospect, if need be. I would assume that the explsion took place in the darker hours....Who in their right mind would try to pull it off in broad daylight. Though, any are free to veto my suggestion. It matters not to me either way for I am quite versatile. It is time to pause, even so early, for this account is not intended to be about my life...but is, as I have said, about my life's secrets. Capt. Sterling
Welcome to Port Royal Aedon. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them here... we do not post anything in the actual thread unless it is in character. There is also a bio thread for you to list a little something about the characters you will be using. I shall bump that up for you. Thomas Neede
A bump to the top, and a wonderful map (C. 1794) for those interested in travelling the island in character: http://prestwidge.com/IMAGES/jamaica1775jeffreys.jpg "Nothing more excellent nor more valuable than wine was ever granted mankind by God." -Plato
hurricane
The map is woefully inaccurate, at least as far as Port Royal was concerned. It sank in 1692. To give you perspective, here are illustrations pre- and post-earthquake from accounts at the time: -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Thomas Neede
I see. Are the surrounding areas accurate, (i.e. Salt Pond Hill, etc)? "Nothing more excellent nor more valuable than wine was ever granted mankind by God." -Plato
hurricane
The surrounding areas are accurate, though few on the island would venture inland off the beach settlements. The island was populated with the Maroons so you were unlikely to return from a venture inland if they came across you. I believe their saying was, "No send, no come" or something to that effect. Here's a little tidbit about Sand Pond Hill from my presentation on Port Royal. It is in reference to the soldiers guarding the town. If they saw more than five unidentified ships approaching shore their duty was to "fire off two cannons laden with hollow balls, from Fort Charles over Salt Pond Hill. The report and echoes thundered through the mountains, so the troops could hear the call wherever they were on the island and take up arms." -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Capt. Sterling
My most humble apologies to all the PRers if I am holding up things. I have been very busy as of late and am currently on the road for events and not home... I will see to getting my share of the thread back on track as soon as I return to Virginia. Ransom
I know there have been a lot of events going on, and people have been busy with "stuff" but I gotta ask, IS PR DEAD? I've been ditzing around killing time with Ioan and Lady V, and I know Cheeks has posted a few times, but let's face it, the thread is on life-support. We're averaging one post every three weeks, and there is NO story line going at all. I say we either jump-start the old girl and get moving again, with everyone participating, or pull the plug. Otherwise, what's the point? Your thoughts? ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... Ransom
I understand about events, BUT, there will always be events. When the thread started, stuff got posted regularly, despite RFII, and Port Washington. I get the feeling the interest has died. One or two people can not carry this thread. Unless the rest of the players come back and get involved, I don't see any reason to keep going. Noble effort, Cheeks, and many thanks for all your wonderful characters, but like I said, one, two, and even three people can not carry this story along, especially if the posts are weeks apart. PR, not only destroyed by an earthquake, but also by apathy. It's not the end of the world if the thread dies. I'm not upset. I'd just like to know so I can either plan new stuff, or move on. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... Capt. Sterling
Standing solid and foresquare, his pistols pointed to the two strange men, and his heart yearning to go to the prone figure on the floor, Africa bellowed, "What goes here?
