Mad Gracie Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Does any one have any good web sites with lists of sea shanties and their words? Even better, maybe a midi or mp3 along with that so one can see how the tune goes? ~Mad Gracie~
El Pirata Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me... Let me guess, you were looking for a little more than that. Pushing the limits means getting out of my comfort zone and giving more when I don't think I have any left.
Mad Gracie Posted October 6, 2003 Author Posted October 6, 2003 Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me...Let me guess, you were looking for a little more than that. Umm... Yes. Just a few more. Some treasure of a site. There must be one out there. I've found some great irish/drinkin' song sites. But i'm looking for more of sea shantie/songs-sung-at-faire kind of songs. Any suggestions? ~MG~
Coastie04 Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Lots of those Irish drinking songs could well pass for sea shanties. I know classics, such as the Old Dun Cow and Highland Laddie are common on ships. However, I've got a few sites for ye here. http://www.acronet.net/~robokopp/shanty.html http://www.jsward.com/shanty/ http://gamgee.acad.emich.edu/~tomlewis/alphalist.html http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/ http://www.thebilgepumps.com/songs.htm http://www.theshantyman.com/SongLyrics.htm I hope this helps. dickosfortuna Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 What a boon!!! You can expect to hear some of these incorporated into my music sometime (hopefully) when I get my website up(hopefully) 'My own master, on like occasions, would buy a whole pipe of wine and placing it in the street would force everyone that passed him to drink with him, threatening also to pistol them in case they would not do it... and very oftern, with both his hands, he would throw these liquors about the street and wet the clothes of such as walked by, without regarding whether he spoiled their apparel or not, were they men or women.'
