Jib Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Perhaps a little to early to be certain but I seem to notice a "Voodoo" theme in the stills and trailer of POTC 2. Anyone else have insights in this?
Mad Matt Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 My best guess is that Jack Sparrow and company go to Loozyana t' see a voodoo queen. Probably having something to do with his deal with Davey Jones since Jack is cursed by him in POTC2. You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Bosun Carmina Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Jack Sparrow has an encounter with Tia Dalma, a voodoo queen, played by Naomie Harris! Fer more spoilers, check out the Spyglass section of the Keep to the Code website!
Patrick Hand Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I kinda like the voodoo doll in the skull hair on the movie poster...... I made something simular a few years ago outta corn husk..... may have to make another....... Funny story about the corn husk voodoo doll...... An old girlfriend , her daughter and I went to Waznecks exploritorum in San Jose.... and they had a hand-on exibit on making corn husk dolls..... so I helped my girlfriends daughter make a doll..... and ....well I just hadda make a voodoo doll...... anyway, I hung the thing offa the rear view mirror in my truck.... kinda thought it was funny..... My bosses boyfriend at the time (who I hate...) thought that the voodoo doll was ment to be him..... the jerk (keeping it PG 13) started to get sick...... my boss asked if I'd take the thing down... I just laughed.... if it upset what little mind he had....cool....... So I've always had a kinda soft spot in me ol' black 'art fer voodoo dols.....
tishsparrow Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 just for fun remember the commercial where the woman used this site to voodoo her boyfriend?
Mad Matt Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Jest tried some "VooDoo" rum last night. Weren't too bad. Also had RedRum. Kinda fruity with coconut flavor and some other tropical fruit flavors. You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Bosun Carmina Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I bit more about Tia Dalma: http://www.latimes.com/business/custom/cot...5,0,19779.story And here's a close-up pic of the voodoo doll!
lorien_stormfeather Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Ahoy Carmina...thanks fer the picture! I can think of a few pyrates that I need to make dollies of instead of Jack! BTW: Anyone lookin' fer cornhusks should check the mexican food section for tamale husks, soak them add some rafia hair and Spanish moss and have fun makin' dollies...
Rumba Rue Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 ooooh thanks, I got two people I'd love to make dollies of and stick pins in!
Jib Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 Sympathetic magic. Very interesting. The original idea behind sicking a pin into a voodoo doll was to "lock in" a prayer. The dols were supposed to be 'gods and goddesses' not people. Of course things change. I wonder about Jack's extra eyes...
Patrick Hand Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I wonder about Jack's extra eyes... Obviously whoever made it had hiccups............
Ace of Harbor Bay Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Jest tried some "VooDoo" rum last night. Weren't too bad. Also had RedRum. Kinda fruity with coconut flavor and some other tropical fruit flavors. The wife bought me Redrum and the dvd of The Shining for Christmas this year. www.pirate4hire.com Pirates of Harbor Bay
Ace of Harbor Bay Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Also, seems to me I remember Bess saying something about the poster being a little inaccurate as there's no voodoo in the film That article also mentions Tia Dalma being a witch doctor not a voodoo queen www.pirate4hire.com Pirates of Harbor Bay
Mad Matt Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 That's a cool present! As far as Tia Dalma, they may have represented her as a witch doctor (I obviously don't have the script or plot line), but if they go to New Orleans as what I've heard, viewers will draw their own conclusions between that and the corn husk doll as one thing: VooDoo. You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Jib Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 A large portion of the population of Hati is said to follow Voodoo. I suppose any where there is a large African population you could find "Voodoo Hogons and Bokors".
Charity Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Rumours are rumours until we see it before our own eyes but..i say GO HECTOR!!!!!!!! Thanks to Mostly Mischief of wherestherum.com for finding the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_th...the_Caribbean_3
Iron Bess Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Also, seems to me I remember Bess saying something about the poster being a little inaccurate as there's no voodoo in the filmThat article also mentions Tia Dalma being a witch doctor not a voodoo queen True, true I did say that and that also 'tis true... the poster is not accurate. However... I don't belive I mentioned VooDoo one way or another (insert evil laught since I have to run!) Well, you may not realize it but your looking at the remains of what was once a very handsome woman!
Charity Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Noo voodoo, but a witch...interesting All sounds cool to me..bring it on!
Bosun Carmina Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Me first attempt at makin' a Jack voodoo doll! Me friend Sea Wolf took the pic whilst dealin' with a curious chocolate lab, so ye can't see the beads very well, and the hair isn't arranged quite right, but this is just a first attempt prototype anyway!
Iron Bess Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 While the VooDoo doll itself does not figure inthe films, Disney, as always, will make a buck off it by selling them as key chains. Watch for them at a swag dealer near you. :) Well, you may not realize it but your looking at the remains of what was once a very handsome woman!
PepperBox Pete Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Sorry Bess, Thar be no Keychain in their future.
Iron Bess Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Sorry Bess, Thar be no Keychain in their future. What?? WHAT???? (as if I care...) What happened?? Well, you may not realize it but your looking at the remains of what was once a very handsome woman!
Black Hearted Pearl Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Sorry Bess, Thar be no Keychain in their future. I believe you mean there will be no "official" ones as of yet. However, the witch doctor in me, (me grandmum was into the arts, ifn ye catch me meaning) suspects them asian pirates will be persuading the commanders at the mouse otherwise. ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. PepperBox Pete Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Even the mouse whens to draw the line.
Black Hearted Pearl Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 What, a separation between church and mouse? Where is that in the constitution? ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.
