Black Hearted Pearl Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 The web site: http://www.thepiratequeen.com/ NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The biggest Broadway news of the week comes from the creators of "Les Miserables" and "Miss Saigon," Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg. They have a major musical in the wings about a real-life female pirateer named Grace O'Malley, circa 1530-1606, called "The Pirate Queen." It'll world premiere in Chicago next October 3, then open in New York before the end of the 2006-07 season. This is the first Boublil-Schonberg show with an American creative and design team; Frank Galati directs, choreography is by Mark Dandy. It'll also have a cast of 40, and no casting has yet been set. ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.
Bilgemunky Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 That's a fantastic find, Pearl! And I'm thrilled to see it'll be playing in Chicago - when I saw the word "Broadway" I'd assumed NYC. Chicago is a bit easier :) I AM BILGEMUNKY
lady renee Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 i hope that the play will be hit. a pirate's life for me(gold, rum and men).
Mad Matt Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I've never been able to see a Broadway show. Would've loved to have seen Phantom of the Opera, Guys & Dolls, or Les Mis. One of these days...ahhh, the curse of growing up in California... You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
kaizoku Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Aye, besides chicago i didn't see any other locations on the website. Are there going to be any on the east coast? Or is only the opening location set? "A merry life and a short one be my motto" Avid the PA ren faire, or live nearby? We're trying to start a club/group to do some fun things outside of the faire! www.countyerdoubloons.com/tavern

Black Hearted Pearl Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 Arrrh! I've been hit. I shall make corrections to the course immediately. ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.
William Blydes Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I'd always thought that her story would make a good movie.... Someone like Mel Gibson could get behind it, it's an anti-English story William Blydes I don't get lost, I EXPLORE! Adventures on the High Seas (refitted and back on station!)
Scarlet McBayne Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Finally!! A real life woman pirate being recognized by the PTB's ( powers that be ). Can't wait te see it! Scarlet McBayne " Touch not the Cat without a Sheild " McBayne motto "red is the Rose in yander garden grows Fair is the Lily of the Valley"
StrangeBayPirate Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 enjoyed the link thar Black Hearted Pearl. Nice little overview of the life of Pirate Grace O'Malley. I too would like to see this story make it to the big screen. The roll of Grace could be played well by Kate Winslet or Cate Blanchett. Wot say ye? Captain Tito Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Aye theatre fans, looketh like Lord Of The Rings is coming to the state too. It'll be premiering in Toronto sometime soon. I saw an add for it in the Coach USA bus excursion catalog, advertising to get people to go on one day trips to Toronto to see it. Have Parrot Bay, will travel. WILL SHARE TOO!!!
