I just found out a buddy of mine just had a suicide car blown up right next to his troup carrier in Iraq. His is alive and well with only minor wounds but lost alot of blood due to shrapnel, luckily he was driving and the car blew on the passenger side. The passenger in the main cab died. So I would like to raise a tall ale for the boys that are over there and one for those who won't be home.

Aye, my father was a marine for 20+ years and was in desert storm and shield and i have a few friends stationed over there now so i know the feeling.

It would be nice to send some care packages over to them and let them KNOW we are thinking of them, holding them in our prayers for their safe return and while still there give them a bit of cheer for the holidays.

Thank you all. I really needed this reminder as to why I put on the uniform everyday, as lately my faith in the people i serve has waned a bit after seeing the anti-war protest here a few weeks ago and how they treated the sailors and soldiers just tryin to get to work....

We know your just doing your job. The people that make it bad for everyone can't get to the person that put there son or daughter into harms way so they take it out on whoever represents the military and that is you. I know most of the kids in the military just wanted to serve their time and go to school when they get out. Unfortunately they got stuck in a bad situation and from my point of view are doing a hell of a job.

I just spoke to my buddy, he is out of the hospital and will be home around the end of the month for a two week leave. His team leader was killed right next to him and his outlook on things has changed quite a bit. I think that is just too much for a kid of eighteen to witness.

As for me, I joined to serve my country, and the way I see it is such:

I dont like war in the least, but i see it as a nessicary(sp?) evil sometimes (hell without it, we would still be playing "God Save the Queen" at the Cricket World Series!).

As far as Iraq goes though, i think we have just been there way too long. What happened to the days when we told people "Ok, we have kicked the snot out of your army and your country, if you dont want it to happen again, you better straighten the hell up!" and left?

My brother is stationed over there (2nd time, he's already been there for a year and come back). Last time he was in Iraq we were told we couldn't send him porn (or a number of other things) because the Iraqi mail service censors the contents so that anything not befitting their beliefs is destroyed. Has this changed?
