May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there! As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words: "My treasure to he who can understand."
oderlesseye Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) Based on a period painting of Pieter Codde 1599- 1678 Eye finally invested a few bucks had had this all made from scratch. The Apostles are from Ivan Henry but eye stained the bottles and dyed the belt black. The Buttons on this jacket are wooden. Guess all eye need to do now is score on a match lock Edited May 8, 2012 by oderlesseye http://www.myspace.com/oderlesseyehttp://www.facebook....esseye?ref=nameHangin at Execution dock awaits. Mission Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Based on a period painting of Pieter Codde 1599- 1678 Eye finally invested a few bucks had had this all made from scratch. ... What a nice jacket; I really like the look of it. You should take a photo without all the hardware on so's we can appreciate the craftsmanship. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Capt. Sterling Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Nice Eye, all set for Searles if ye like, just ditch the striped stockings, they are prohibited there... Steve from Bluebox Sutlery does it again! Now he can get started with my outfit! :-)
oderlesseye Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) This is a re-post for mission to see the clothing better.. Eye am stoked it all fit so well... That's a good question about stripey socks..When did they come on the scene? Eye kinda think they are more of a Hollyweird thing than period to pirates in general during the GAOP though eye believe they were popular during the European Renaissance of the 14th–17th centuries ~ Edited May 8, 2012 by oderlesseye http://www.myspace.com/oderlesseyehttp://www.facebook....esseye?ref=nameHangin at Execution dock awaits. jendobyns Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Yeah, we talked about this a while back, stripey socks are not period correct. But a great look! Well done!
Capt. Sterling Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Oi did ye see that German site with the 17th century striped silk stockings? Granted it was only the very top of the stocking.... Mission Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Thanks, Eye! I love those buttons. Coats and waistcoats with lots of buttons look really neat to me. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

I really like the style you chose for that outfit.
michaelsbagley Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Eye, with the exception of the stripey stockings (and maybe style of hat).... that is likely one of the best early/mid 17th century outfits I have seen. Well done, great choice of colour.
jendobyns Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Oi did ye see that German site with the 17th century striped silk stockings? Granted it was only the very top of the stocking.... Just caught up on that on the other thread. Interesting, but as you pointed out, not English or Colonial. I'm thinking maybe the stripes have a purpose? Without being able to see differences in thickness, etc., it would be difficult to tell if they're decorative or not. I guess it would also depend on if they were intended to be worn under or over the knee breeches. We may never know. That the horizontal stripes not going the entire length of the stocking is something to consider. Whatever the case, they shouldn't be as common as represented in reenacting. Eye, it's still a very spiffy outfit!
oderlesseye Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Thank you for the compliments and setting me straight on the socks.. Eye most likely will have to go wit a straight colored sock for any hard core reenactment events eye attend.. Only two on the west coast for pirates that eye know of. And they are not exclusive to Pirates of the GAOP..they are time line events. In some aspects are more interesting that say a Ren Faire, which Eye have really lost any zeal for. (Though good to go for being with friends.) Eye will look into getting a Match lock to go with this Kit and maybe next year look to come to an East coast event that is about being period and is Pyrate centric. Eye am still unclear about the type of Hat that "COULD" be worn with this kit to be completely Authentic. Eye am still ok with wearing my buckle shoes though eye may and should go with the laced up type. Any suggestions you have eye am open to it. Just PM me to help this thread stay on Topic. Thanx. Ivan Henry aka Moose Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 IVan and Billie Beach - thanks DB Couper for the pic!
Rats Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 WAY out of GAOP but STILL a pirate - er, I mean privateer. 1586 Drake's Raid on St. Augustine, Florida. Jerkin by Liam, hand sewn breeches by ME! (my first completed piece of clothing) Excellent impressions! It makes me want a matchlock! No rest for the wicked! Wait a minute... that's me?!
Rats Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Hail the Crewe, know me by my images below; We'll either get along famously, or NOT. Mad Zan Love the pics Zan! Especially the shot on the bottom! Many a modern pirate can look the fop.. but I always thought that to capture the working sailor stands out above the rest! BTW: I can't believe your slops look dirtier than mine in the pic below....I guess, I'll have to either do more work or just hit the bottle and wallow in more filth?? Edited July 1, 2012 by Rats No rest for the wicked! Wait a minute... that's me?!
James Smythe Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Just thought an update with my garb was in store. the only thing missing is my sailor's jacket. A bit to warm at the Blackbeard Festival.
William Brand Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 You are totally owning that mustache, Mister Smythe. What's next for the kit?
James Smythe Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Haven't quite thought about it. I know I am working on a ditty bag for my seam rubber, fid, and other miscellaneous bits. Maybe a set of slops.
William Brand Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 The ditty bag and slops will be excellent excellent additions, Mister Smythe. Might I also suggest a good walking stick/cudgel and good combination whisk & vent pick to go with those pistols.
