William Brand
William's concern was further exacerbated by mention of his note, but in the face of the Quartermaster's long explanation he found it impossible to be angry with him. After all, what was done was done and even William had voiced his contempt aloud. "That will do, Mister Lasseter. " he said as he bent down to turn over the fallen adversary. He studied what was left of the man's features a moment in thought, before turning out his pockets. He found a little coin. A very, very little coin. He took it at once and standing again before Chanault, he paid him in kind. "Monsieur." "Mister Gaultier is leaving, Mister Lasseter." William said, nudging the fallen Frenchman. "Please see him to the gangplank."

William Brand
William watched the funeral procession depart into the gloom of the lamp lit docks as he made his way to the quarterdeck. He was there only a moment before he called Mister Pew aft. "You have the deck, Mister Pew. I shall return presently." "Aye, Cap'n." William made his way forward gathering Nicholas Johnson and Lazarus Gage to him as he went. They went down the fore companionway and then forward into the lastage which served as a cable tier. Here they found the Lady Ilex who was as far from the definition of lady by this time that she could barely be called human at all. Her eyes were sunken in a skin that needed sunlight and air soon. William called for a dipper and water and helped her drink, though much of her efforts were little more than a splutter. He let her settle again after a protracted fit of coughing before he began. "Come morning, we are departing La Margarita to places unknown. Ere we go, you will tell me where your small fortune is secreted. Once my men have recovered it you will be shown to a place of recovery here in port. You may choose your own course from there, for I will have no more hold over you. This arrangement is beneficial to us both and I expect to never see you again. Am I understood?" What was left of her answered with a nod and a croak. "Excellent." William replied, all good nature gone from his tone. Still, he sent for food from the galley at once to resurrect her enough that she might explain where his men should be sent. Tempest Fitzgerald
The sharp raport from above set siblings en garde and as much as instinct drew her to attend, counter instinct made her remain. And now the pieces were beginning to fall into place, she had observed the liquid movement and surity in which the man in question carried himself. No, Jaquelyne thought to herself, Jean-Micheale had always been most particular about the company he kept and it was obvious what skills Chanault was proficient in. Jacquelyn's eyes drifted to the sealed correspondance in hand while her mind stratagized rapidly. When retort came, it was without confident conviction, for the Irishman much like William Brand, seemed to foul her defensive line. "Truly sir...it is best that such wordings are considered assumptions and nothing more." She fingered the edge of paperment in distracted manner, "And the very idea that Capitaine Fournier would send to me a Mate to act as guard dog and nanny is...is...proposterous." The relay of defensive verbose once again failed in fortitude and retreating the field, she found near steel opener to pop the seal of wax. Tempest Fitzgerald
Jacquelyn bit back wordings to Dorian's sudden manner of formal pomp and circumstance. Inwardly, she knew the true motivations as innocent reaction to her sudden distancing and tried to leave it where it lie. Fearing the appearance of vulnerability she held her tongue and allowed Dorian's aid with outer adornment, quietly thanking him for his assistance. The fight was out of her and in order to face pending company, Jacquelyn would have to rally energy once again. William Brand
William watched Lady Ilex eat as carefully as a tired child. She was working at a piece of chicken with both hands close to her mouth. She made no eye contact, but he could tell how very aware she was of him peripherally. Time in the dark had made her something she had only thought she was before. An animal. William filled the dipper from the bucket a second time and held it out to her at arms length. It was a very long time before she took it from him. She had just begun to drink when Mister Lasseter entered their quiet circle. "Mister Lasseter." William said as quietly as he could. "What news?" Tempest Fitzgerald
Le Requiem In the short passage of time that had passed betwixt Lieutenant Chanault's return, report given and the now, small shuttered lamps had signaled to the near distant brigantine and with the aid of smaller craft, she had been towed to the outer mouth of the harbour. Word had been passed throughout consort's embodiement and the well oiled machine woke from slumbering state of repose. Arrival to floating kingdom of French design was given immediate attention and the two companions were ushered with priority to the Great Cabin and the lord of the realm. The eloquated chamber held but four at current, and Fournier's valet reduced that original number with quickened departure to accommodate the adding of two. Jean-Micheale gained footing in respect and was quickly followed by Lamaire, in doing so. Chanault, still adorned in the trappings of "war waged", having not been seated, gave up semi-relaxed posture in due attendance. Fournier stepped forward in welcome and asked that Lamaire please see to showing the Comte assigned quarters, followed by dismissing Chanault. Dominique slyed an impish smile to the new arrivales and motioned the Gascon to follow, their banter started as soon as the door was secured. Raphael nodded acknowledgment of request and as he passed near to the remaining guest paused as she profferd hand. "Monsieur Chanault, it is good to see you again, though our parting and introduction were but brief." "Oui madame." Her hand was taken with gentle care then returned in the same manner, a tickle of smile tugged the corners of Raphael's mouth as he begged her leave and secured the door behind. Nothing was said at first, a hint of aprehension coloring the air between before Jean-Micheale broke its hold. Moving to chair nearby, he pulled it out to offer seating and as she was made comfortable in its confine, he motioned to crystal decanter. "Vin?"He inquired. "Oui, s'il vous plait. Merci."She replied following his movements. Goblets filled, he regained his placement at table's head, "There are matters that need be breeched, Jacquelyn..." ...Or lay these bones in an unworthy urn, Tombless, with no rememberance over them: Either our history shall with full mouth Speak freely of our acts, or else our grave, Like a Turkish mute, shall have a toungueless mouth, Not worshipped with a waxen epitaph... William Brand
The fifth bell of First Watch came and went and still William plied Lady Ilex with careful questions. At first, the shadow of the woman was little more than that. Though unfettered, she remained in almost the exact position she had been in while bound. Then, slowly, as if rising from a very deep place, she began to show surface signs of self awareness beyond the base emotions of flight and hunger. She began to communicate first by nods and limited eye contact. This evolved into true speech and William was ever the polite gentleman throughout. He made no threats, no idle remarks about reward or punishment. He simply kept the questions rolling until she began to speak almost as if the sound of her own voice was pleasant to her. William suspected that she was being fed by the interaction of conversation after a starvation of company and kindness. He wasn't too surprised she was speaking in a strangely affable way with him. After all, he had spoken to his own captors after repeated beatings. It was human nature and she was becoming human again. When the better part of an hour had passed William emerged from the lastage. "Bring her soap and a bucket and find her some clean clothes." William went above to the gun deck where all of Lasseter's party were assembled. He called Mister Lasseter over and relayed the instructions to him in short order. Mister Lasseter was surprised and William nodded when seeing it in his face. "It's not 'ere?" William shook his head. "It isn't on La Margarita at all. Have the men stand down and as soon as the good Doctor is aboard we'll put to sea."
