Fancy Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 type in a few lines from a movie... and others try to guess what movie! ok, I'll start... these are two quotes from a movie, from two different scenes... "I'll come 'round sometime and get that squeak out of your door." "I think we can't go around measuring our goodness by what we don't do - by what we deny ourselves, what we resist and who we exclude. I think we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create and who we include." Fancy
Red-Handed Jill Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 From Chocolat. First line is Johnny Depp's and the second (can't recall the actor's name) is from the Easter sermon. Okay, here's one: "This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes."
DocF225 Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Okay, here's one:"This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes." The Holy Grail!!! Here's mine "Gotta Driver's License?", "No, but I gotta Library Card" "Close Enough" Doc Wiseman - Ship's Physician, Stur.. er... Surgeon Extrodinaire and general scoundrel. Mission Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 "Gotta Driver's License?","No, but I gotta Library Card" "Close Enough" SWAT How about this: "A toast to our success in the desert." "When we are very far from here." Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
CaptainCiaran Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Nice quote, Mission. I hope I'm correct that it's from "Indiana Jones". Here's one: "I love, that is all. But I love strongly, exclusively, steadfastly." I wonder if one of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map. -- Loreena McKennitt My fathers knew of wind and tide, and my blood is maritime. -- Stan Rogers I don't pretend to be captain weird. I just do what I do. -- Johnny Depp
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Wasn't that Petunia Pig In the Warner Bugs Bunny Movie? Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.
CaptainCiaran Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 !!! No, matey, twas not !!! I wonder if one of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map. -- Loreena McKennitt My fathers knew of wind and tide, and my blood is maritime. -- Stan Rogers I don't pretend to be captain weird. Jonathan Hawks Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Nice quote, Mission. I hope I'm correct that it's from "Indiana Jones".Here's one: "I love, that is all. But I love strongly, exclusively, steadfastly." Me believes it was from "Impromptu" A 1990's something thing. Heres on fer ya "I dreamed a dream of you and it was a sweet dream. While it lasted. " Shoots anything that moves!!
Mission Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 First Knight. How about this one: "Don't you people have homes?" BTW, I like the way Belloq says, "When we are very far from here." He can take the most mundane line and make it sound interesting. Kind of like the way that Gibbs says, "Aye, sea turtles!" Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I am sure 'bout this one. It is "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"! Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.
Mission Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I've never actually seen AOTKT. Sorry, that's not it. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 wait ! I know I know! It was "Independance Day" Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.

Mission Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 wait ! I know I know! It was "Independance Day" You're just giving me a hard time, aren't you Diego? (It could also be from the forthcoming Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...but it's not.) I think Lady Snow's quote is from The Skulls. I'm not sure, though. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
lady snow Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 you got it. i've seen the flick so many times and that's the only line that stays in my head! ~snow with faith, trust and pixiedust, everything is possible if it be tourist season, why can't we shoot them? DocF225 Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 "Don't you people have homes?" Caddyshack... Yet another geek line for ya "No, I'm from Iowa; I only work in space." Doc Wiseman - Ship's Physician, Stur.. er... Surgeon Extrodinaire and general scoundrel. Reluctant Temporary Commander of Finnegan's Wake Piracy- Hostile Takeover without the Messy Paperwork We're not Pirates; we're independent maritime property redistribution specialists. jessie k. Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I bet nobody's seen the movie this one's from: "Gentlemen! May I propose a toast? To our two romantics: to one who sees what is, and to one who sees what can be; Lord grant that the two are compatible." "When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear, and life stands explained." --Mark Twain
Mission Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Doc's quote is from one of the Star Trek movies - I think it was Kirk who said it. Probably from ST4 (the one about the whales) since that's the only one I've seen enough to remember anything from. I'm not sure about the origin of jessie's quote. I think it should probably be stated: "Gentlemen! May I propose a toast? To our two romantics: one who sees what is, and one who sees what can be; Lord grant that the two are compatible." Sorry jess. The "to's" are redundant and in the movie business, time is important. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 We're going to need a bigger boat Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.
Red-Handed Jill Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 We're going to need a bigger boat Jaws Here's an easy one: "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
Duchess Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Princess Bride. "you've got a spot of red on you."
Fancy Posted April 15, 2005 Author Posted April 15, 2005 I love that movie and that line, Jill Duchess, I don't know for sure, so won't say what I'm thinking. I bet nobody's seen the movie this one's from:"Gentlemen! May I propose a toast? To our two romantics: to one who sees what is, and to one who sees what can be; Lord grant that the two are compatible." jessie, you're probably right, cause I don't know yours either. Fancy
Mission Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Shawn of the Dead (What a great flick) Ok, I cheated on jessie's line and looked it up since no one seems to know it and some people are ignoring it. It's from The Man From Snowy River. My favorite "line" from Jaws is the song: "Show me the way to go home I'm tired and I wanna go to bed I had a little drink about an hour ago And it got right to my head Where'er I may roam O'er land or sea or foam You can always hear me singin this song Show me the way to go home." Here's a tricksy one: "A good fort needs a gap. The enemy must be lured in so we can attack them. If we only defend, we lose the war." Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Duchess Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 yep. That was Shaun of the Dead. I'm shocked I didn't get the Man from Snowy River. That was my favorite movie for years when I was little. Paved the way to a teen obsession with Louis Lamour novels, I suspect. Duchess
Mission Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Oops! Misspelled Sean of the Dead. Sorry 'bout that. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
