Tempest Fitzgerald
To those on land and all the ships at sea... Once again, with much anticipation for those of us familiar to the merriment and times to be had, April 9th begins the festivities of Scarborough Faire in Waxahatchie, Texas!! (Approximatly 45 minutes South of the Dallas, Tx area.) It is with great joy and warm welcome that Flintlock Jack and I look forward to meeting any of the local Brethren and/ or not so local. This is a wonderful and friendly festival to attend and although not as large as TRF, we actually enjoy it more in some ways. So, if you are going to be in the area, Jack and I will see you there and raise a tankard or two to pyracy and honor the tradition of it. Let us know if you will be attending! For more information go to :Scarborough Faire We do hope to see you there! ...Or lay these bones in an unworthy urn, Tombless, with no rememberance over them: Either our history shall with full mouth Speak freely of our acts, or else our grave, Like a Turkish mute, shall have a toungueless mouth, Not worshipped with a waxen epitaph... moricktowain
I personally plan to attend Scarborough at least once. I'm personally planning to attend the preview tomarrow at Grapevine Mills mall, and am hoping they do something similar to what they did last year with giving away free tickets (Spinning a wheel with every other slot being a free ticket.). If I don't win a free ticket, I'll be attending probably once this year (more than likely in May). Otherwise, I may attend one of the days this month, and one of the days next month. It'll be nice to get out of these mundane clothes, throw on my wrap pants, vest, and boots and have a good time! Morick Towain Captain of the Pirate Brethren of Texas. Hetha
*sniffles* Can't go this year!! *tears rolling down cheeks*So expensive, and gasoline is so outrageously pricey!!! I miss my dear "home away from home." Might be able to get one weekend, but no more.. OOps! That was my outside voice;)! "Big on self-reliance and personal responsibility. Tempest Fitzgerald
So sorry to hear that, Hetha. It seems as though the gate fee goes up every year. (It is higher than last year.) I know that if we had not obtained passes when we did that our chances would be very slim in attending, as well. Gasoline is a obnoxious issue currently. I paid $2.07 a gallon today and was lucky at that. A few hours later it went up again. Morick Towain...Perhaps we shall run into. Did fortune smile upon you and reward you with a free pass? ...Or lay these bones in an unworthy urn, Tombless, with no rememberance over them: Either our history shall with full mouth Speak freely of our acts, or else our grave, Like a Turkish mute, shall have a toungueless mouth, Not worshipped with a waxen epitaph... moricktowain
Morick Towain...Perhaps we shall run into. Did fortune smile upon you and reward you with a free pass? Turns out I did win a free pass....unfortunately, the other two people in the group that went with me, including my roommate (and my pirate crew's mundane historian) did not win passes. Since the tickets are only good this weekend and next weekend, and I want to take as many of my pirate crew as possible to the faire, we're going next Sunday (April 17). I won't be too hard to spot....look for the long haired, bearded pirate in wrap pants, boots and a leather vest (no shirt underneath) escorted by a mundane with long hair and a beard taking pictures like crazy, and mabey one or two other pirates. Hetha
I hope you both have a fun filled and merry season. I hope, that I might at least once, get to go this season as well..but as I said, in due time..I'm not sure when I'll be able to manage it, between work schedule, and other issues concerned, but if and when I do go, I will bring my digicam, and post ahead of time to let you know the details... I know scarborough will be there when I do return, so I'm not in a huge hurry to spend free my financial savings, but it is easy to do out there, what with all the shops and addictive things we cannot seem as frequenters to do without. I usually carry as light as humanly possible, given the heat, and bring my own drinking horn for refills on water, and other drinks and such...bodices can be a sweaty pain! Quick question: Which areas do you two like to frequent the most? (ie. Crown Meadow,The Grove, Holyfield, any pubs in particular?) OOps! That was my outside voice;)! Tempest Fitzgerald
Master Towain, much joy to you for your acquisition! My husband, Flintlock Jack and I shall keep a weather eye out for you next Sunday! You cannot miss him, around 6' in standing, black wide brimed hat with black and cobalt blue plumage...and two braces of pistols crossed over his chest, black over the knee boots. (He stands out just a hair.) As for myself, I always wear britches. Thigh-high black boots, an olive green doublet trimmed in black and tan at the shoulders, wide black belt with a blunderbust hanging in a holster of sorts and a wide brimed emerald green hat with multi-colored plumage. If you spot us, be shure to give us a "Haloooo" and we will do the same. Hetha, to be honest we do not stay in any particular area. Usually we are constantly on the move. When the tankards run dry, we pause for a refill. If hunger strikes, we usually stop at whatever table is closest to the vendor we purchased from. I guess that would make us true "Irish Rovers"! Master Hawks, we would love to make your aquaintance! TRF is a wonderful faire. The Husband and I made it down there for our Wedding Anniversary last year. Scarborough is much smaller than TRF, but enjoyable none the less! We missed the opening day due to family matters. None the less, our favorite Barkeep told us that it was the busiest that he had seen in many a season. We did attend yesterday and the nasty forecast of weather did not prove true. (Yea!) But, I do believe it kept many people home and I guess I cannot blame them. It is a bit of a drive to be possibly soaked to the bone. The Corsairs are playing again this year, as well as many other favorites. There is a Harpist by the name of Sara Mullen who plays in various locations that I highly recomend. Truly a gifted player. We ran into old friends and made some new ones. I think that we now own stock in the Pubs...Or at least should after yesterday. (Speaking of which, libation of the alcholic varity runs from $3.75 to $4.50 a draught. A nice selection of wine, domestic beer and ales...and yes, there is mead.) ...Or lay these bones in an unworthy urn, Tombless, with no rememberance over them: Either our history shall with full mouth Speak freely of our acts, or else our grave, Like a Turkish mute, shall have a toungueless mouth, Not worshipped with a waxen epitaph...
