Gentleman of Fortune Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Just kind of curious.... I have always assumed that those that came into "pirate" via SCA called it Garb. Others that have sailed in from other re-enacting time periods seem to call it "kit" or something else.... Come aboard my pirate re-enacting site http://www.gentlemenoffortune.com/ Where you will find lots of information on building your authentic Pirate Impression!
Rumba Rue Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Well I call it both, garb and costume. It's whatever comes out of my mouth first. Rumba Rue **Another smooth escape designed as a dramatic exit**
Tudor MercWench Smith Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 I call it garb - just beacause it's fun to say when drooling over new pieces - mmmmmmm, garb! Well that, and because costume brings to mind what newbies where to the faire - y'know, cheapy stuff that they got for a ten-er at the halloween shop.
Sealegs Constance Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 I call all my pirate things garb or costume like Rumba. I have been looking at some new things, and as soon as I get the dubloons for it I will be getting some new things. Might go out plundering to get what I want. Sealegs Constance I am what I am
Coastie04 Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 I've called my pirate clothes "funnies" from the very begining while sailing on the Lady Washington. Since coming to the east coast, I've slipped garb into my vocabulary, but I still generally stick to funnies. Coastie She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
Bloody_Mary_Bonney Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 i call clothes garb and things like my tankard my kit or stuff my favorite is stuff But why is the rum gone? Save a horse ride a cowboy! Take me away and take me farther, suround me now and hold me like holy My toes are getting pruney Also my head is round that window is square.... My name is Micheal J Kabous and i eat babies! Your toast has been burned and no amount of scraping will remove the black stuff
Roger the Red Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I calls Me Piratin' Clothes "Henry"-They don't seem to Mind... RtR "For I have dipped My Hands in Muddy Waters, and Must a Pirate be- A short but Merry Life shall be My Motto!"- Bartholomew Roberts
jessie k. Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I call it garb, because when I started in SCA, that's what everyone else called it! Before that, I probably would have called it a costume, but now, that brings to mind Halloween and Ren Faires. Not that there's anything wrong with Ren Faires, but... "When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear, and life stands explained." --Mark Twain
Cap'n Pete Straw Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I will hug them and squeeze hthem and call them George. Actually, I call it "my pirate stuff." "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... "He's a pirate dancer, His dances are funny... 'Cuz he's only got one shoe! Ahhrrr!"
Redd Oktober Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Sorry...I calls it kit...must be the Brit in me! (Stop quirmin' ye lil' Englishman! I don't care if ye ddo have ter make candy fer Mr. Wonka!) YARRR! The Oktober be silent now! Just call me "REDD!"
kass Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Kit is my term of choice. But sometimes I call it "my pirate clothing" or "my 1690s outfit". Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time!
LadyBarbossa Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Me? I call my them my pirate attire. Maybe sometimes my pirate clothes or outfit. Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" "I'm completely innocent of whatever crime I've committed." The one, the only,... the infamous!
Rummy3 Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 I calls it me garb - but always says it wit a SMILE
Captain Jacob Badger Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 I calls it ''me Cap'ns gear''..or ''me badger skin''. but thats only 'cos i'm strange 'n' welsh......and stoned most of the time. Yes, it be pointy…..and ye be at the wrong side o’ it.
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 It be so many choices of yes, maybe, yes, maybe, sometimes, and no But ifin one asks I needs ta say it I spell it out. I be a p i r a t e. Less not more! Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.
HarborMaster Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 In refrence I call it garb., but really I prefer to call it clothing., cause its what it is. I think of a costume as a sort of one night inexpensively made type outfit. A good muslin shirt and cotton pants and real leather boots to me is hardly a costume. Clothing., I would definitely say period clothing., you can run tumble fumble .,drink !!! fall down., work and even frolic in them., no costume is going to hold up to all this piratin' abuse. I am not Lost .,I am Exploring. "If you give a man a fire, he will be warm for a night, if you set a man on fire, he will be warm for the rest of his life!"
Diego Santana de la Vega Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I'll run tumble fumble .,drink !!! fall down., work and even frolic another drink in mine captain! Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.
TheCaptainWilliam Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Garb, attire, skin, or something similar. My most common is: "Me Capn's clothes" its just what comes out first...
Jonathan Hawks Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 They just be me clothes. Garb? It be possible, but na..... Shoots anything that moves!!
Patrick Hand Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 S.C.A. got to me first.... so I call it my "garb".... or my "Pyrate Stuff"......
Jonathan Hawks Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Aye, I agree, "Me Pyrate Stuff". That be the best fer me. Shoots anything that moves!!
Patrick Hand Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 The fun part about me Pyrate stuff....... the weapons are all such a part of it...... But weapons arn't "garb" so me Pyrate stuff works better....
