Type in "pirate boots" on ebay.com - there are many price ranges. Also, type in "thing high boots" and many times Bob and Angie have men's boots that are good and not too expensive. The other option is to buy a pair of Wellington style boots and add your own cuffs. I have a pair like that that I've had 20 years now...

I would say that it depends on from what period you want your pirate image to portray.

One of the the best bootmaker for 17th and 18th century is Sarah Juniper out of the UK

17th C boots should look like this

Pricey but none better (IMHO)

Be careful; not all boots are created equal!

I ordered expensive bucket boots, and when they came they were hard to get on and also hurt my feet. I took them to a cobbler who laughed and said they weren't walking boots, but riding boots!

Renboots fixed me up with a pair of boots that look good, fit, and were less than a third of the price of the others. Plus, they're comfortable!

If memory serves, Blind Rhoid is referring to his less-than-satisfying boots from Champion Attitude. Harbormaster has similar boots from the same company, and is very pleased. I decided to take a chance on them myself, and ended up somewhere in the middle - not quite thilled, but not entirely dissatisfied. My chief complaint is that the proportions were off, making the boots look more feminine than depicted in the picture. They also gave me the wrong toe and heel. After some negotiation I was able to get the heel replaced, which made a huge difference (the orignal heel they sent was too long and angular, and made the boots look less like a pirate and more like a stripper's thigh-high.)

I'll be writing a full review on bilgemunky.com after I've had the chance to break them in a while, but I'd caution you that Champion Attitude doesn't have squat for a return policy. If you're looking to spend that kind of cash, I'd try RenBoots first. I don't know how their boots are, but they look good and they have a full refund available if you aren't happy.
