Those early Spanish explorers never cease to amaze me. Archaeologists have found what appears to be remains from a fort they built at the base of the Appalachians in 1567. There's event a pirate connection... the Spaniards were trying to find a land route to Mexico to avoid pirates.

always good to hear of new discovery's that are be'n preserved proper like.

I use to live in that area about two years ago near Morganton, and know the exact area they are talking about. There's a lot of history in that area and around the Catawaba River that has yet to be discovered.
