Commodore Swab Posted November 27, 2023 Share Posted November 27, 2023 I starte work on this new piece and as you can see it is still a work in progress but I thought you would like to see regardless. It is a Spanish circa early 1700 when Spain began adopting the french style lock (the unbridled frizen and miquelet style cock date it as an early version of what would become common) this would have been built for a wealthy nobleman, someone travelling to the new world or returning overseeing the shipment of his property. Such a weapon if seized by pirates would have been selected by someone of high rank upon division of the prize. It is very well proportioned and does not show its size (.85 caliber 4.5 lbs!) a true beast that could fend off most any attack yet still worn on a belt.
