Commodore Swab Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 7 .50 cal. barrels that are fired at the same time. The lock fires the central barrel which in turn fires the remaining 6 barrels. After test firing yesterday it was determined that there was no noticeable delay in any barrel ignition will all firing perfectly. The weight is just under 15 pounds and the charge was 40 grains per barrel loose poured with no packing. We started out at 40 grains and determined that was about perfect for demonstrations, no kick nice solid boom and we can get roughly 30 shots per pound of powder instead of 15.
William Brand Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 You've made some amazing firearms over the years, but this is the first one you've made that really, really, really needs a youtube video all its own. It's a seven gun salute at the touch of a trigger.
madPete Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Aye, You need a mug and a Youtube video! mP Aye... Plunder Awaits!
Coastie04 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 No kick with 7 .50 caliber barrels? Was it firing blanks? Certainly the lead would have left a little divot in your shoulder! Also, I second all the calls for a youtube video!!! She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
Commodore Swab Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 The info on the load was already posted, no lead loose poured.
Coastie04 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Ahh, passed over that bit. Still would love to see her on youtube! She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
Silver Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 always enjoyed seeing one of "SHARPS" men (i think it was the irishmen harris)letting go with one of those. do the outter barrels have a slight deflection from center?
