Save the Shawnee Protest

Sometimes local Governments can become to far reaching in to our lives and jettison the most precious things we hold dear to our hearts! This is personal to me because Dennis Holland also restored the Spirit of Dana Point ( Formerly known as the pilgrim) which happens to be the first ship eye ever did piratical reenactments on. That day on the Spirit of Dana Point changed my life forever and sealed the deal as to why eye continue to do reenactments. I fell in love with Tall ships that day. A Ship and a Mans Life hangs in the balance as well as the legacy he will leave behind for children to experience sailing on a tall ship. Nautical Heritage matters and should be considered in the city councils short sited decision to force Mr Holland to remove the ship. The Ship is in a state that she would be destroyed if force to move due to structural issues at the moment. The legacy is that this ship when restored would end up at a maritime museum where children programs would most likely be instituted. If the city make this ship be removed from his property ..all will be lost. A real shame!

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

"My treasure to he who can understand."

We went to Balboa Island by the ferry and chanted save the Shawnee holding our signs high and proud.

We gave information leaflets to passer byers we spoke to and ask them to attend the Newport city council meeting

which is tomorrow the 27th. We also had Press out in force. We had a few musicians with us too, so we sang some twisted

shanties as well. Christine Lampe gets the credit for organizing this event. There were about a dozen of us at this rally.

The Message was sent and received by the public in good will. After the rally, we all loaded up and went to see the Shawnee in person. Eye got to speak to Dennis Holland and personally thank him for his hard work on the previous ship he worked on where eye got my start. Seems the real problem is the failure of a community to come together and take pride in rebuilding a ship to call their own. ( Ironic too because it is a Yachting community!) Kinda like a community would get together to raise a Barn. Instead it is every man for himself and *F* the neighbor.. Society is in sad shape these days.. This story is a testimony to that fact.

We attended the Newport City Council meeting in support of the Shawnee . Christine Lampe,Micheal Lampe, George Pepper,+ a few others, and myself spoke in front of the council. Cross fingers they do the right thing..

What we need is like an "extreme Home improvement show" only for this ship. Where is the Ty Pennington of Tall ships with a crew of a Hundred guys and gals with the know how to rebuild her in two weeks!

Today a Radio Station has contacted us to do a story!

This will snowball and give us the groundswell of support we need.

We made the paper again too. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/holland-346614-city-council.html

Hello all! My name's Grant, and I work with KPCC, a radio station here in Los Angeles. I'm hoping to do a story about the Shawnee. Can anyone help me get in contact with Mr. Holland? Hopefully, I'll see you all at your next pirate protest! "

GREAT NEWS !

- Dennis Holland and the city of Newport Beach have settled. He's agreed to take Shawnee apart and shift her to a different part of his property (behind the house), so the vessel will not be visible from the street. True, this will involve some extra work, but it allows Shawnee to stay at his house, making it much easier for him to work on her than if she had to move elsewhere. He's got 120 days to move the vessel, and could use some helpers.

We made a difference!

This week end we were in a Parade in Newport Beach in support of the Shawnee.

We passed out pamphlets to increase the awareness of the locals of their nautical heritage.

Twist and turns..Some facts were wrongly reported on. Dennis will not have to remove the ship from his property but simply move it out of site.
