Yellowbeard Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Happy New Year me Hearties! Couple of my latest I'd like to share. Back to the fighting sail timeframe with these ones. The first is your basic duty cocked hat, tried to get it as close as possible to the ones in the Hornblower miniseries; This one I'm going to keep for myself. Sorry about the hideous looking creature ruining the picture, but I wanted to give a general idea of the size of the hat. Now let me ask a practical question; as I'm working towards starting my online hat site and plan on offering these two hats as standard designs, what do you think I should be realistically charging for them? As there are so few people offering stuff like this it's hard to get a good idea of what people are willing to pay. Thanks!
Yellowbeard Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) Here is a glazed canvas covered one, just waiting on the cockade Tried to base off this one at the National Maritime Museum in the UK: Edited January 13, 2011 by Yellowbeard

Yellowbeard Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) Thank'ee Strick, I sure hope so! I've been wanting to do one like this for a while now, and as I ruined a blank trying to make something else I figured I'd use the scrap to make it. Edited January 16, 2011 by Yellowbeard
Captain Midnight Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Thank'ee Strick, I sure hope so! I've been wanting to do one like this for a while now, and as I ruined a blank trying to make something else I figured I'd use the scrap to make it. That is VERY nice work indeed! "Now then, me bullies! Would you rather do the gallows dance, and hang in chains 'til the crows pluck your eyes from your rotten skulls? Or would you feel the roll of a stout ship beneath your feet again?" ---Captain William Kidd--- (1945)
Mr. Noland Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Any chance at getting a "Dutch Masters" type from you sir? Been wanting one of those since the first time I saw them on grandad's cigar box. R. Noland. He who is content, has everything.
Yellowbeard Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Thanks Captain Midnight! And I just shot a PM to you Mr. Noland regarding your question.
Dread Pyrate Greyhound Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 These are all really cool, eventually I'm going to commission a 17th century style bicorn, similar to the one Governor Ensley had in Cutthroat Island. Let every man Know freedom, Kings be damned, And let the Devil sort out the mess afterwards.
Yellowbeard Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Back with more! These ones are all commissioned pieces. First up is a very weathered and piratical looking one; A more conservative look (I lightly weathered it since I took these) And this one was for someone who wanted a "Horatio Hornblower Hat"; Hope ye like 'em! peglegstrick Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Love the first one....bullet hole & all !!!
Laura Coughlin Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 got our hats today. The fit is perfect, couldn't be better! The workmanship is outstanding.
Yellowbeard Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks Laura, I'm thrilled you like 'em!
marlinspike Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Thank'ee Strick, I sure hope so! I've been wanting to do one like this for a while now, and as I ruined a blank trying to make something else I figured I'd use the scrap to make it. Absolutely Love this! "Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth [...] pausing before coffin warehouses [...] I feel the need to go to sea. [...] But never as a passanger, just a simple sailor before the mast." (Melville. Moby Dick. 1-3)
1stMate Matt Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Hey nice job on all of them. The last few brown ones caught my eye big time. I need a brown hat. -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop
peglegstrick Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Has the one with the bullet hole been sold as of yet Mr. Yellowbeard?
Yellowbeard Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Has the one with the bullet hole been sold as of yet Mr. Yellowbeard? Aye, that one was a commissioned piece that's gone. I guess this one is a stretch for pirate-related garb, but it would fit in with Jean Lafitte's time period; I'm particularly proud of this one because I made everything myself, no pre-made blank used at all. It's made of cardstock covered with canvas covered with silk plush. And thank'ee all for the compliments! Edited February 21, 2011 by Yellowbeard
Dread Pyrate Greyhound Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 And this one was for someone who wanted a "Horatio Hornblower Hat"; Hope ye like 'em! The hat I got my avatar in Pirate of the Caribbean Online is almost Identical to this one, it's a nice hat, but is more Napolionic than PotC timeframe Let every man Know freedom, Kings be damned, And let the Devil sort out the mess afterwards.
