Hawkyns Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 the rope rammer and spounge! has anyone ever made one of these things, and did it work? i keep thinking of the saying "pushing a rope up hill" every time i see it in a book. I've never made one but I have seen them. They were designed for use with heavy cannon, not something light. 18's and 24's as I recall. The 'rope' was a 2 1/2 inch hawser. Flexible was a relative term, but they were definitely stiff enough to seat a ball home. Hawkyns Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. I do not require anyone to follow me. I do not require society's approval for my actions or beliefs. if I am to be judged, let me be judged in the pure light of history, not the harsh glare of modern trends.
Silver Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 thanks hawkyns, that would figure that it would be for the larger guns. i read where it was used when the gun ports had to be kept closed, larger gun being placed closer to the water line. i think it would be a waste of time to make when you have a 1.75" bore. in the artist remdishings it appers to be very flexible. p.s. solomon kane not at blockbuster.
