Silent Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) Ahoy lads, finding it hard to keep my time fulfilled with pyracy related events in the cold months of the winter here in the north. I live in WA and it gets pretty cold out so it's not like I can go sailing, all the tailship events are over, and the depression of not because able to go to PiP is starting to sink in. So for ye pirates in the colder climates what piracy related activates do you partake in? Wish I could be playing Sid Myers Pirates but can't find it I guess I could make some flags or something. Quartermaster James Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Yarr! Thars always kit to work on! Skills to learn (casting pewter, marlinspike work, decorative carving, etc.) And reading to catch up on! (How's your Dampier & Exquemelin?) And round these parts we're working on putting together a pyrate immersion day tentatively scheduled for March (which will come faster than expected, guaranteed, if'n you're trying to plan an event for it!) Oh yes! Thars drinking! Lots and lots of drinking! Drop us a line if you head south. Pyrates raid Portland the first and third Friday of the month.

Someone told me that people who live in FL look at tourist funny when they swim down there during the winter.
Bilgemunky Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 While I hate to condone sitting at the computer all day, if Sid Meiers' isn't an option, have you checked out Pirates of the Burning Sea? Nothing like an MMO to let you virtually live the life - especially when there's other pirates out there playing alongsides! Also, I have an IRC chatroom during my weekly pirate radio show - it's a great way to chat with other pirates real time for three hours. Monday nights - www.bilgemunkyradio.com. I AM BILGEMUNKY
TenPennyJack Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 What's wrong with a warm mug of rum and buggering the lasses? Caesar si viveret, ad remum dareris.
Capn Bob Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Aye, it be no fun at all here in Northeast Ohio in the winter, ye may lay to that. I got me a copy of "Latitude Hooks and Azimuth Rings", and I'm planning on tackling some of those projects during the long, cold winter months. Damn, thats sharp!
Gibbet Jones Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 I'm listen to some old pirate audio books and sculpting. Winter is rough here as well. I've seen -70 without wind chill. With a couple good months of actual summer weather. 30 years of this weather and you'll live in a cardboard box as long as your in warm Caribbean weather lol. I would suggest Pirates of the Burning Sea as well. I played the game back in Beta days and for about 4 months on Antigua server after it started. Lots of fun. Sleek Packet boat was my favorite. Hung out with Deadeye Cruickshank terrorized Port Royale for a time. No Cage for the bones of Gibbet Jones.
Quartermaster James Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 What's wrong with a warm mug of rum and buggering the lasses? Come on now lad, don't be shy; tell us where you really like to put it round!
seabaroness Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Pyracy doesn't rest in the winter in New York. In the past couple of weeks me and the crew of Ye Pyrate Brotherhood have given a lecture on piracy at a local library and marched in a holiday parade. We have a Pirate's Christmas Ball this Saturday and I understand February is booked with boy scouts events. When not pillaging there's always a treasure chest of books waiting to be read.
TenPennyJack Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 What's wrong with a warm mug of rum and buggering the lasses? Come on now lad, don't be shy; tell us where you really like to put it round! Lol. Women get bored in winter time, too. That's all I'm sayin'. I'd install a trapeze if I new the roof was sturdy enough.... Caesar si viveret, ad remum dareris.
Quartermaster James Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Lol. Women get bored in winter time, too. That's all I'm sayin'. I guess that's where the buggery comes in... I'd install a trapeze if I new the roof was sturdy enough.... You mount the eye-bolts in the joists, lad.

Let's just go with the term friggin' in the riggin'. Caesar si viveret, ad remum dareris.
William Brand Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I empathize. I have a period style tavern in my backyard, fully furnished and heated, and not one other pirate to speak of for leagues. Start putting up posters. Â Â Â

My crew and I may have to make a pilgrimage. Can't be that many hours from Denver... Old Crow Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Then again if yer in Seattle, there's a sea shanty sing the second friday, I believe, of the month at northwest seaport. Not that I ever make it myself. We're going to get something started on the Oregon Coast this year, I swear it. Old Crow Involuntary Marine Acquisitions Specialist
Captain McCool Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I'm actually trying to put together a little, informal shanty/folk sing here in Denver. For being so landlocked, we seem to have a lot of people interested in seagoing music. Gibbet Jones Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I used cans of spray paint. No Cage for the bones of Gibbet Jones.
