Pirates Magazine Issue #11

Well I have not posted about a specific issue in quite some time now, but I feel this issue warrants such a post. I strongly feel that this issue is the best to come out of our camp and feel that Capt Nichols has so much more locked a ready to go for the next issue. I believe it will only get better!

This issues cover has the prizes for the Devil's Dozen contest on it. A sword from Tony Swatton and one from myself that you can just see the point. It also has the Order of Leviathan ring that will be given to the 13 winners. First time that the cover has had only an object and I think it works great! The back cover has a lovely yet simple and clean ad by yours truly. I think the colors work great with the front cover.

Now for inside of the magazine. We start it off with a great full page ad for PIP. Next is the letter from the helm. If you can not tell how excited our captain is by reading his letter then I dont know what to say. He is bringing in the top writers in the realm of piracy to help create magazines that will be cherished by their owners. Next we have the Devils Dozen entry bit. Gives a brief description for each of the DD hopefuls of which I see at least 4 Pyracy.com members. Next is an interview with Author John Drake. Love that guy. Right after is an article by John Drake about the true story behind buried treasure...CHEESE! A new look into where the digging began. Next we have a nice bit about MacKay and his creations. I got to meet Jeff first at the original PyrateCon. What a nice guy! Then we have a nice piece on ships of the GAOP by Steve Buckley. Ton Frey graces our pages once again with another great Blackbeard article and the findings of the QAR. There are loads of scientific findings in this one. Sam Menefee gives us a peep into the other side of pyracy. This issues Blood and Thunder column is picture happy. I love the Duckfoot pistol. Next we have my article, The Blades of the Brethren. I focus on a dear friend of mine and his early American pieces. Next we have Graybeards piece. He seems to always make my laugh a few times while reading his articles. Captain Slappy focuses in on a certain PHD that is pushing some great studies into the history of Piracy. Our Pirate queen brings us a fun "tail" about a mermaid specialist for our fantasy fans. Then we have Tiger's ongoing search for beauty...that guy never gives up. He also has a little write up about Monica Braugner and her band of female fighters. Terri and Jack bring us another great addition to the "el Lobo del Mar" saga. Always a favorite of mine. Next we have a few pages of festival coverage. You can find a few pubbers hidden in those pages as well. BilgeMunkey rings in with a few great reviews and then we end it up with our Knots page. Cant go off to sea without knowing your knots. This one teaches us a nifty way to carry our rum!

Another note that I would love to hear some feedback is the new paper that we are now using. With the overwhelming support of late we decided to go with a thicker and much nicer paper. I feel it adds a since of class.

Im sorry that I just wote a book on this issue, but I feel it deserved it. I job well done to the Pirates Magazine crew on this one.

Enough of what I think...what do you the readers think about this new issue and the direction that we are going?

Matt, you and Dave have every right to be proud of this issue. I just received mine on Thursday and the quality of the paper is unbelievable. It really is a high-class journal.

The article by Thomas Frey on Blackbeard and the findings of the Queen Anne's Revenge is riveting. It was an article I couldn't put down. As with the rest of the issue. The magazine just keeps getting better and better!

I am indeed humbled and proud at the same time to be part of the Pirates Magazine's Press Gang.

For those that don't know, Mad Jack and I write El Lobo del Mar under our real names.

Um...anyone know a literary agent or publisher?

Taking on the world....one pair of boots at a time!

A little bit of this...a little bit of that...a lot of dreams....

Im glad to see that you feel the same as I do Miss Bright and with the next magazine coming out so soon after this one I just can't wait. With PIP in the air and with all the great writers joining our team I am just overwelmed with excitment.

I would love to see more 'How to' pages which demonstrate how to cock a hat, do fancy buttons, etc. Leatherwork, sewing, and carpentry articles that demonstrate the step by step of period fabrication. Something as simple as Gertie's 'aging a replica flintlock' thread was a good show of 'how to' for those getting started. https://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=15250

Oh I agree. Should be at least one "how to" thing in each issue. I think Capt Nichols has been trying to work more of that in. Maybe that would be a good thing for me to try in my Blades of the Brethren column. Maybe how to age a shiney cutlass or something.

Seems I may have posted this a few days to soon. I just got my mailed copy yesterday. If I dont get more feedback here I will be pestering everyone at PIP !

Do bring a copy as I would like to see mine and haven't gotten my copy in the mail yet. I promise...ahem...to give it back.

Can someone grab one for me? I'll gladly pay shipping. . . .

What do you mean? Grab one for you and bring it to PIP or just send you one? If you want to order one to be mailed then just do it at PiratesMagazine.com. Sarah does all the shipping and she is no slacker! If you want one for PIP then fret not. There will be plenty.

How about 'how to get blood out of a nice white silk shirt?'

Ha. I was thinking more like how to get a blood stain into your shirt, not out of it.
