Interesting. It looks sort of like their carronade, but yours doesn't have the cascabel ring, does it? Special order?

I called hern and asked why our new carronades had no ring. I was told the 3/4 scale is not casted with the ring just the half scale and full scale. I was a little ticked, but what do you do..

Nice job on the carriage , sir. But it looks a bit nekid without its divers tackles on her. THe wood working must have been a bi**h, oak kills tools quickly. If ye are intending on firing shot from her, ye may want to do up the trunion caps a bit heavier, and make sure the cap bolts go all the way through the cheeks of the carriage to the bottom. Good Luck!

as of now im not planning to fire a projectile out of it that might change in the near future. alliance of the double cross checked it out and i got the impression that they were happy with the construction for firing blank loads out of it ... but like i said that might change in the near future we are looking at getting a ball mold and there are two local places that have cannon clubs that meet once a month a certain gun ranges set up for cannon fire... thanks for the tips those are some things we will really look into ahead of time.

Can't wait to fire some powder through em.. these are more muller style and we Still have work to do on them, elevation quoin, Iron treads, cheek rings will be brass etc etc. I ordered a book from privateer media on building naval artillery and such. Bronze trunion caps and the J bolts will go through of course and so fourth.. although they are a little naked, we promise they will be looking sexy in no time!!

It looks like we could fire off something the size of a racquet ball. Hmmm.

1-7/8" is golfball size, but they pretty much suck for accuracy - no way to put reproducable spin on them, and light compared to say a lead ball.

Certain Tomato paste cans fit our GB cannon pretty well and when filled with concrete are just right!

casketchris . Your 1 7/8 bore is a 1.875 caliber bore. If you divide that by 40 you'll get 0.046875. Now if you multiply this figure by 39 ., you'll come up with 1.828125 . If it were me I would have your ball mold made at 1.825 . This would allow you the correct ., 1/40'th windage ., for maximum propulsion while not having it so tight its a bomb. It should easily slide down the bore at this size . Also be sure to properly worm and wet mop / dry mop between rounds. This will keep your bore clear and clean so you maintain your correct 1/40'th windage ., as well as extinguishing any burning embers. Also you'll maintain a much better consistency with your shots. I am not sure about golf balls. I haven't got any golf ball caliber artillery. However I understand people love that size ., 25 balls for 5 bones at Wal~Mart. I believe a Golf~Ball bore is 1.68 therefore the proper bore would be 1.725 . You'll probably lose some gusto with that on a 1 7/8's bore and a golf ball. Remember to NEVER patch a ball to make up for this when using 1" or greater bores. Capt Thighbiter's Can and Concrete technique is a good way to go . It makes for a nice conical ., and usually at whatever bore size you have ., the concrete weighs a small amount less than the lead ball. ., Still giving outstanding performance while reducing a bit of pressure off the breach. I have a beer can mortar and I love it. Concrete and cans make damn good ammo.

Yes guns change to cannons starting at 1". Good Luck Sir with your new acquisition . It is a fine piece of ordinance to be sure.
