Littleneckhalfshell Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 my main question is, how exactly do you attach that to the cannon? No Fear Have Ye of Evil Curses says you... Aye,... Properly Warned Ye Be says I
Iron Hand Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 my main question is, how exactly do you attach that to the cannon? Right That.....Kinda Pricey as well.... Iron Hand's Plunder Purveyor of Quality Goodes of questionable origins
Quartermaster James Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 Just to be clear, it is not I that has this lock for sale. It's just a listing I stumbled upon, and thought to share.
Captain Jim Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) my main question is, how exactly do you attach that to the cannon? Right That.....Kinda Pricey as well.... Actually $200 isn't all that bad IM(NS)HO. But the bidding is open still and if it goes much higher at all it will become pricey. I have some pictures to share. The first is of a different kind of cannon lock: And the gun it would mount to: As you can see, this one would be mounted by bolting it to the holes in the gun located fore and aft of the touch hole. I have a picture somewhere (can't find it just now) of the lock you pictured mounted on a barrel and I believe it actually pivots on the front mount and is "pinned" down on the rear, hence the slot to allow for "play" in getting the pin seated. I also think that the HMS Victory uses these same cannon locks. Edit: Huzzah! Thank you Aelfrick of Sceaftesige for taking some pictures of exactly what you want. MarkG Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Canon lock I saw this lock today at the Faire At New Boston and asked the seller about it. It is meant to be mounted on a cannon with a side vent. It has not been drilled. She said that normally it would either have the side of the pan drilled as with a normal lock or it would be used with a quill. The quill would be bent down slightly. She also confirmed that it was made for Master and Commander. Mark
