Carolina Jolly Roger
I wanted to read your thoughts on this subject, were Pirates and Freemason's connected ? I have a book title " The Templar Pirates " by Ernesto Frers. Which say's The Templar fleets that went missing at La Roschelle later reappered-first in the Mediterranean and later in the Atlantic and Caribbean-to menace the Church's maritime commerce. These Templar vessels often flew the famed Jolly Roger, which took it's name from King Roger ll of Sicily, a famed templar who, during a public spat with the Pope in 1127, was the first to fly this flag. In the 1700's, about half of the Pirates were of Welsh descent.

Duchess
Several of the dishware and utensil pieces in the Whydah exhibit were marked with the Freemason symbols. There was a small placard about it, but I don't recall the details.
Carolina Jolly Roger
Several of the dishware and utensil pieces in the Whydah exhibit were marked with the Freemason symbols. There was a small placard about it, but I don't recall the details. Yes, I saw that on a TV special they had on the Whydah, I thought that was interesting, There was also something about it in the book on the Whydah by Barry Clifford. I believe alot of the GAoP were Masons, alot of the symblos used on their flags had Masonic symbols, the heart, dagger, hourglass and skull and crossbones, which was a ancient symbol used by the Templars. All of this is very interesting to me. As my Grandfather was a Freemason. I have his Masonic apron. In the 1700's, about half of the Pirates were of Welsh descent. Fox
IIRC one item from the Whydah is scored with what may be a Masonic symbol. I'm interested in the primary evidence for the following: Templars flying the skull and cross bones from their ships Any documented connection between Templars and Masons Daggers on historical pirate flags Foxe"With this Fore-Staff he fansies he does Wonders, when, God knows, it amounts to no more but only to solve that simple Question, Where are we? Quartermaster James
Templars! And Masons! And Pyrates! Oh my! But seriously, have you considered that the pyramid has only one eye... ...just like a pyrate wearing an eye-patch? Coincidence???
Fox
How do we know that the pyramid doesn't have another eye on the other side? Duchess
Then it would be two, one-eyed pirates.

I'd be careful about "authenticating" anything as "Masonic", despite any outward appearances. It always could be just a product of the publishing arm of the local loonies (think of John Birchers masquerading as Masons - okay, I really dated myself there). The material on segregation I find more interesting. It makes me wonder about the date of those volumes. Twas most likely progressive to have "colored" temples at all, let alone welcome the local Hasidim. Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck...
