1stMate Matt
I made a short video of casting some bronze eagle heads today. Thought you might get a kick out of it. Shame I didnt get a picture of some of the PC swords that got mounted with the eagles before they went out, but you get the idea. -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop
William Brand
Thanks for sharing the process. I need to come out there and document a sword start to finish.

Commodore Swab
Did I see you pouring your ingots on bare concrete?
Littleneckhalfshell
Did I see you pouring your ingots on bare concrete? yeah, that was my first thought too! You really should have the casting area around the furnace and the path to the vaccume flash area with a DRY sand bed. I know it is a back yard set up, but safety should still be a number one priority. I have always heard that concrete is a BIG NO NO. But the results are nice, just hope you don't get wounded by the process when and if a spill happens. No Fear Have Ye of Evil Curses says you... Aye,... 1stMate Matt
True. It's not safe. We did preheat the area first but even then bad things can happen. I guess after doing it hundreds of times the fellas can get a bit cocky :) BTW you didnt see me pouring anything. That's my older brother Kerry and Tony Cavey. -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop
Commodore Swab
Out of curisoity what alloy are you using? We use silicon for most everything, on some of the smaller pieces and other things like truniun caps or swivel yokes we may use scap bronze to save the cost. 1stMate Matt
I believe we use Silicon as well. Evendor to be more exact. -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop
