mcdrago
Good morrow to ya lads an' lasses! I ha' been lookin' high an' low fer some fairly large piratey looking square brass buckles. I gots me a plain one fer me baldric long ago, but I needs a smaller more ornate one ta hold up me new breeches when I gets em'. Me belts are 2 inch an' 2 1/2 inch wide. I don't want no Capn' Jack buckles neither. Some o' the ones his crew wore would be foine, but where in the 7 seas do I find em'. I've looked everywhere I kin think of. I got's me one for an 1 1/2 belt, but the bigger ones seem harder ta find than hen's teeth! Anybody have any idears?

To the best of my knowledge and experience, breeches do not take a belt. Take them in if they don't stay up on their own.

Ye be partially right mate. But do need sumthin' ta tuck me pistol inta. So havin' a belt do both. Also keeps me sash from comin' a loose! Jim; Those buckles and belts look mighty foine ta my eye. I will double check me belts and me purse and let yer know tomorrow! Edited March 11, 2009 by mcdrago
Cap'n Sage
I have picked up some fine buckles from Crazy Crow Trading Post...http://www.crazycrow.com/ Take a look and good luck. MadL
Th' "breeches" do naught use a 'belt', they have a gusset in th' back with a lace (I replace th' string with leather me self) what hold them up. As fer th' pistol, that could either be stuff'd down yer sash or a belt (I recommend a belt clip) or ye can get two pistol 'n use a silk cord (or strap) t' wear them around yer neck. As fer th' breeches, I find a well made pair with good material (an inner liner helps) will stay up just fine all day - t' include walk'n full faire, carousing aboard ship, get'n drunk, wench case'n, 'n evade'n th' local constable - but th' thin pair I have with no liner (from Jas) will stretch horrible if they get wet, such as sweat'n on a hot day, 'n by th' end o' day ye be hold'n them up with one hand once th' gusset be tight as it can get. (naught a problem I have had with either o' me lined pair) ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close! mcdrago
Thanks MadL. I finally ordered me linen breeches from Black Bear. Twil let ya know how they turns out when I gets 'em. I ordered the first mate's jacket from Museum Replicas. In a word, it don't fit. Their sizes run about 2 sizes small. Too bad, it looked really nice. Now, I've got ta try an' find one somewheres else. I didna want a frock coat...too big and too hot! Thanks Cap'n Sage. I ordered thier 2 1/2 buckle. Sink me! The shippin' cost almost as much as the buckle. Wal, I needed one, so what could I do? Thanks Sutlerjon, for trying ta help out a pirate. Twil get back ta ya regarding a complete belt, once refill me purse. Must be a fat merhantman out there somewhere's I kin take. If anyone else knows where I kin find a nice squarish piratey buckle fer me 2 inch belt, let me know.
mcdrago
Burned again, bloody pirates! I ordered a 2 1/2 inch buckle from "CrazyCrow", after talkin' w' 'em ta make sure they would fit me 2 inch belt. I was assured that the size meant the buckle, not the belt. WRONG! Just so's ye know, if'n ya orders a 2 1/2 inch buckle from them, it will fit a 2 1/2 inch belt. So I will be givin' them a call and a piece o' me mind as well. So's I am out o' luck again. Jim, I will be a callin' ya later ta discuss gettin' a whole bloody belt from yer.
sutlerjon
Aye McDrago, Thanks for calling this mornin'. I be a, well not so much fat as, chubby merchant, oh, alright those that've seen me'll probly say fat as a house, be that as it may I'll be startin' yer new belt in just a few minutes. Soon as thumb through my brand spankin' new copy of "The Buccaneer's Realm" and cool off after having a bit of a row with the "nice people" (read that ...... well ..... any way ya want) at our local Wally World. Just so's ya'll know, the logo may be the same but if the money order don't say Wal-Mart on it they ain't cashin' it. More'n a little po'd by the misrepresentation o' the product line. That last paragraph is in the wrong dang thread, should be a couple doors down, oh well, sorry for being "peevish". Enough of that, gonna skim the new book, love that new tome smell! Then back to work for a while. Jim Self Promoter Jim Pirate Gear oldsutlerjohn.biz American Civil War oldsutlerjohn.net
