mcdrago Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Avast mates.....be keeping a weather eye out fer the pattern ta this coat. I be still a lookin' fer it.
historyfanatic Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Sorry mate, I've been distracted with other threads... Just looked at this. The pattern ye want is: Kannik's Korner Patterns I have a couple of these to offer right now... They are not our usual handstitching work, but they are cheap! They are both made of a light cotton canvas with a muslin lining. Buttons are handmade flat brass. This one is a size 42. (In other words, if your chest measures 42" it'll fit ya!) $75.00 +$5 shipping The hat is for sale too, $18.00 This jacket is a size 40" chest. (I was barely able to squeeze it onto my size 42 suit form. This was difficult, so it won't fit properly on someone bigger than a 40. (FYI) This jacket is also $75.00 +$5 shipping. The sash is also available for $28.00 (100% silk) All these items are brand new. mcdrago Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Nope. Wouldn't fit me 47 inch chest. I wanted it in a faded blue color anyway.
roytheodd Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 What's the length of the sash, and can we get a better photo of its tassles?
historyfanatic Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Sash is 9-feet long. Y.M.H.S., Nathanael Logsdon Militia Captain, Merchant Sailor, Tailor, Brewer, Gunrunner and Occassional Pirate... www.piratesofpaynetown.org www.taylor-rosehistorical.com www.ladywashington.org

blackbeard_nc Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 if you decide to have someone make it for you I can give you the name of my tailor. He's in Raleigh NC but will ship work anywhere. He does great work, mostly from screen shots and research but he can recreate pretty much anything and his prices are very resonable. He did a Jack Sparrow style coat for me for under $300 (He took a few artistic liberties with the pattern but it looks great). Send me an e-mail if you want his info. chris.suttle@earthlink.net Here's to wishing the wind be in yer sails and yer powder stay dry...
CaptainSatan Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Similar to the later period jacket worn during the War Between the States (by both navies) As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
CaptainSatan Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Speaking of Mr.Gibbs.... I wasn't too keen on the two POTC sequels. So I only saw II and III one time. In one of the sequels Mr.Gibbs is drinking a dark or amber rhum from a frosted glass bottle. I'm pretty sure that the bottle was shaped very similar to a modern Pusser's Rum bottle (minus the famous anchor logo). If you happen to find a still of that scene please post it here. I really liked how the rhum looked in a frosted glass bottle. So I'm thinking about etching a few empty Pusser's Rum bottles. These would be cheap, expendable, Hollywood bottles. If one me shipmates were to break one I wouldn't feel obligated to have her keelhauled. I love the period onion bottles. But sometimes alcohol and expensive glassware don't mix very well As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
casketchris Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 In a scene from potc III Gibbs looks like he is drinking from a pistol style bottle that has been frosted, almost like the one sold by Pyrat Rum it just looks a little shorter and fatter in the movie. CaptainSatan Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I was planning on frosting some empty bottles of the aptly named Pyrat Rum as well. But my poor rhum soaked brain was under the impression that the bottle I was thinking of had more of a neck? I suppose the only thing to do is buy more rhum and watch POTC 3 again. Speaking of pistol bottles As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
casketchris Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 nice but not the quite the style i was talking about Nautical acquisition and redistribution specialist
CaptainSatan Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 nice but not the quite the style i was talking about Yeah, I usually think of something more like this. When someone says pistol of rhum As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.

CaptainSatan Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Action figures based on actors sorta' creep me out. Probably the result of working as a casting director I'm afraid that they might come to life and try and kill me in my sleep. Or in the case of Mr.Gibbs. DRINK MY RHUM! As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
MadL Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I had action figures o' Elizabeth Swan 'n Arwen, but I had t' put them up on Ebay for auction...I kept wake'n in th' morn t' find them both off th' shelf 'n lay'n beside me with all th' blankets hog'd o'er on their side they did!! I ne'er got NO Action out'a either o' them but they were both Always smile'n wide they was!! ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! mcdrago Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Ok mates, I be diggin' this out o' Davy Jone's locker. I still haven't either found it or had it made. Since 'tis been awhile p'haps some swab or lass has either found it, or be willin' to make er fer me. It no longer matters 'bout the color and while I do want sleeves, I want ta be able to take 'em off if it gets a mite to warm. Any idears? So....what says ya?
LadyBarbossa Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Gibbs' jacket vest looks like the short round coats that we use for the Legion. Generally the dragoon green wool jackets worn famously by Tarleton's British Legion. They have the same shape and style and with sleeves. Which in the movie apparently Giibbs removed his sleeves after his service in His Majesty's Navy. JP Ryan has this pattern to my understanding. Can't remember if I left the picture up of the outfit or not. I still have it in my files though. ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" mcdrago Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) This is what I am looking to do now. With the sleeves removable and double row of buttons. I ordered this from M****m R******s, in a XXL. When it arrived it just was a wee bit large on me lady, who wears a medium, but sometimes likes a large for extra room. It was 6 inches above me wrist and the same above me waist. So I returned it and am trying to find someone ta make it fer me. What dos ya think? Edited April 3, 2009 by mcdrago
Sjöröveren Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I was perusing an 18th century Royal Navy/Marine site this afternoon and happened upon a gent who goes by the name Michael the Tailor. I have no idea of the quality of his work, perhaps someone here knows of him and can render an opinion. He does provide raw diagrams of his goods and he does custom work as well. Perhaps he could construct your jacket for you. Prices seem reasonable. You can give it a look here: http://www.angelfire.com/va/sutler/sps.html I checked this site out today, as I'm looking for Royal Navy stuff. Apparently, Michael the Tailor has passed away. So sad. His work looks to be of a very high quality. the Fool's Gold Pirates

Graydog Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 might this be what you're looking for?? You can get the above coat at: The Quartermaster General Look halfway down the page, it runs about $200. Why am I sharing my opinion? Because I am a special snowflake who has an opinion of such import that it must be shared and because people really care what I think!
