  1. Looks like Fox bought Turner South a few years ago so now my search continues within the Fox network. So far no luck, but I still have about 8 numbers to call...there has to be a copy of this thing somewhere.
  2. I know, it was a really tough decision to shave it off, but at the time the money was good and I had way to much faith in my agent. Too bad the commercial I shaved it off for never aired, but the check cleared. Thankfully I have a retired make up artist who is one of my biggest fans and she makes wonderfull hair pieces for me to wear when I do play blackbeard. Not the same, but it works.
  3. So it looks liek we finally are getting approved for a morgage so I have had to cut my "pirate plunder" budget down to almost nothing. So my new project will be to try and make a complete outfit for as little as possible. I have already started converting a find I got at a thrift store for $2 into a waistcoat, pics will follow soon. If anyone has any ideas or tips from things they have made in the past when money was tight please let me know.
  4. [/img] Ethan in the hat, he loves wearing it. Even went to school with it for a whole week! [/img] Father and son moment..
  5. [/img] the Beard is real in this one, but i have since had to shave it off. Long story, but I still play Blackbeard, but with custom made facial hair pieces now. I can't grow it back with my current job but mayb one day... I still have the hat though, first one I ever made and it just had it's 8th birthday! For my son's 4th birthday I am giving it to him. this is the newest hat I just finished, not a great pic but only one I have at the moment... [/img]
  6. I got tired of not finding the colors or style of wool felt I wanted for hats so I made my own wood hat block and started shaping my own blanks. It was a long process with quite a few mistakes along the way but I finally got them to come out the way I wanted. The felt is about $12 - 22 a yard depending on color and the supplier, the total cost to build the hat block was about $50. I haven't made enough for resale yet, but working on it.
  7. thanks. I made the blank myself thsi time. Not sure if I want to add any trim or just leave it plain...
  8. One of the new hats I just finished, sorry for the size of the pic [/img]
  9. If you find a box you like but need to make it look a bit more period check out this site Trunk parts and tools they have a lot of accesories for turning modern wooden boxes and trunks into more of a period piece. I've ordered a lot of parts from them before and have always been pleased with the products and the delivery time.
  10. Date has been an issue so far, due to the tourist season being the best tiem to host this (for the vendors and actors sake) I am hoping to have something on paper by the time I get to Rock Hall
  11. if you decide to have someone make it for you I can give you the name of my tailor. He's in Raleigh NC but will ship work anywhere. He does great work, mostly from screen shots and research but he can recreate pretty much anything and his prices are very resonable. He did a Jack Sparrow style coat for me for under $300 (He took a few artistic liberties with the pattern but it looks great). Send me an e-mail if you want his info. chris.suttle@earthlink.net
  12. Looks great! I haven't gotten around to pewter casting yet but I hope to by the end of the summer.
  13. Just got a new treasure chest made for the encampment, haven't been able to take pictures yet but it looks great. Also, finally got aproval from the airlines to bring the weapons chest so this is definitly going to be a good time now... And I got a new coat made for the weekend and added a few more bottles to the pirate bar...
  14. On that line why not Bruce Campbell? Only if the line "This is my Boomstick!" gets thrown in somewhere....
  15. I had a house fire about 5 years ago and I lost the only copy I have of an appearance I did as Blackbeard on the Turner South Network Show called Liars adn Legends. I have been trying for years to contact the Turner South Network to obtain a copy but to no avail. I am hoping someone out there has a copy. It was the first episode featuring Blackbeard and a story on the Mississipi Delta Blues. It was over 6 years ago but I am still holding out hope that someone out there will know where I can find another copy. Please e-mail or call me with any information Chris Suttle 919-308-5368 chris.suttle@earthlink.net
  16. So I've decided to reopen the "Pirate School" in Raliegh and I am looking for new recruits. We were called Capt. Scurvy's Carnival of Senseless Debauchery in the past, but we've changed it to Knights of the Black Flag. I have a space in Cary NC where we meet for stage combat classes and general meetings. We have our own tailor for costumes and some really great suppliers for weapons and gear that give us a decent disount on purchases. Travel as far as Florida and California at least once a year is required. Lots of local shows too though. If anyone is interested you can meet me at Camelot Treasures in Cary NC on June 28th for our Pirates day and Autism Awareness party or e-mail me at chris.suttle@earthlink.net
  17. Okay, so after living in the Outer Banks for 12 years and working as Blackbeard the Pirate at Teach's hole in ocracoake for 8 I have had numerous people ask me when I was going to bring a pirate festival to Blackbeards Hometown. I have fought with Hyde County for years but it looks like I may be winning now. Just looking for some ideas and directioon from anyone who has started an event from scratch. we have two possible locations right now, one is a campground and the other is a small spot near the ferry docks with a decent sized spot that would hold a small encampment. The town is all behind me but I feel this may be more of a battle with the town hall folk since the last time they had a pirate event (use to have an annual bucanner days festival until the mid eighties) someone died due to injuries suffered from flipping a dune buggy during a race on the beach. Tough battle to win, but just curious about what everyone thinks.
  18. One trick I learned for reshaping a hat is to make your own hat block. If you line the inside of your hat with plastic and fill with plaster it will make a decent hat block to reshape your hat on. It's a lot cheaper than the hat blocks you find on ebay or at a hat supply store. For stiffening the hat I have found that using a solution of 1 part water, 2 part elmers glue all works well, but you have to waterproof the hat or the stiffness will wear out. Sno seal works okay, but my personal mix is a concoction of beeswax, leather lotion and acrylic medium.
  19. June 28th is the date. Please go to the website for more info. www.camelot-treasures.com/events There will be 2 shows by Blackbeard as well as a really fun "adult" pirate ball that evening hosted by Capt. Scurvy and his carnival of senseless debauchery!
  20. Been cleaning out my workspace to make way for all the new pirate hats I've been making and I found a pair of starfire short swords from my stage combat days. There in good shape, a few nicks and dents but they are all from use, not neglect. Don't have a need for them anymore so I would like to trade them for something of a more piratical nature. I don't teach combat anymore but I am doing a lot more pirate events this year and could use some new clothes. I will post pics when I get back to my house this evening. Any takers send me an e-mail to chris.suttle@earthlink.net
  21. I will be there as well helping out in the encampment. Sounds like a great time and everyone involved that I've spoken with has been very helpful and excited about this event. I will be bringing my "after hours" supply of rum and other liquors with me so if you do show up I'll save you a glass or four... "Blackbeard" (aka Chris Suttle)
