It sounds tacky to me...is it a hoax? I would think something like that could get way out of hand and I am wondering if this is a poor idea. Something like this may not help their careers at all.

I am going to send Lee and Marty the link to see what they have to say about it. I just got off the phone with Marty...shame I didn't see this before we talked!!!!

I dunno... could be rather amusing. Of course, I wouldn't pay money for it, but if it was free, and they interviewed someone whose point of view I'd be curious to hear (Shatner, for instance... and they do say the line-up is Trek next), I'd tune in at least once.

It’s a legitimate site and everyone already knows about it.

And I would think Lee knows all about it as he’s in the sack with them for the publicity shot.

I doubt this will do any damage to their careers... As long as they are not in the Disney costumes of the slapper girls they are perfectly within their rights.

(Shrug) Everyone else capitalizes on what they did with POTC…. Lee, Marty, Greg and the Barbossa and Jack crewmen so I see no reason why they girls can’t. And they are both VERY nice people who help with our Charity events.

Waste not... want not.

I couldn't agree more... it's America and if they can make a buck off their connection with piratin' then go for it. If done well it will boost their celebrity and perhaps lead to other opportunities...

Perhaps it's the same old double standard. OK for the guys to trade on their fame but not the women folk.

I suspect at the bottom of this is the concern that these girls are interviewing people while in bed with them (if I have the right of this) and calling themselves wenches and such, raising the prurient hackles. On the other hand, the did play courtesans (and wenches), so that is in character...

Besides, as Bess points out, how is it any different than Lee or Marty playing off their popularity as pirates? I'm sure if they're "ON" they're behaving like pirates to some degree or at least talking about their experience thereof. A buck's a buck. (Or, in the case of charity events...well, a buck's a buck. Hm.)

Actually, this isn't even a new idea. I seem to recall some foreign TV show where this is the standard format. (Provided the show is still on the air, that is. I don't see much TV, so I'm a poor one to gage TV shows...)

As long as Disney is OK with it (and what choice to they have if they're not violating copyright and their contracts and so forth) what difference does it make? In the end, if it's commercially viable, then it'll be another stop on the web. If it isn't, it won't. Here's to the free market. B) (Personally, I can't see spending my lucre for such, but I'm a cheap SOB when it comes to such things. I'd rather have a new fleam...or better yet, a really old one.)

I do want to clarify this with everyone, especially Iron Bess, since she is a Disney employee...Yes, Marty does ride on his pirate image(but he is also popular due to LPBW) to promote himself at pirate and other fandom events - it's done legally and upfront with Disney. All the money and I emphasize all the money that Marty collects at any show or signing goes directly to CoDA. Marty does not keep one penny.

We are putting together an Official POTC interactive in Utah. We have a fabulous theater and banquet hall dontated for the event;we have radio and televion stations that will run air time and interviews etc, and Marty will pay his own way to fly out there because this is all for his charity. He is 100% dedicated to his charity and I work very hard, even tho I live in NY, to put these things together. (And I give big kuddos to Lizzy4depp for doing the footwork in Utah. Literally and figuratively...)

As for the wenches, I still think it's tacky. ------------ I honestly can't To me it looks like Lee's photo was super imposed in the photo

How are those 2 going to check the ages of people that register? Can you image a bunch of 12 year olds signing up? Not good and that could be a legal mess even if everything else was legit...Oh well, love a duck...

Your pardon JSS, I do not believe that anywhere in the above posts was it infered that anyone was indicating Marty or any other cast member was using their celebrity for profit in a disparaging way or manner. :P

Why would you even think that was an issue here? Since you singled me out I feel obliged to answer even though I see this as trite and a NON issue. I really doubt Marty would feel I defamed him in any way by what I posted but I ‘ll write to him and ask him myself if you’re worried about it.

We all know Marty does wonderful work. What the girls are doing is no reflection on Marty, his cause or his ability to use his past roles to other ends and means. Why would you even think it would?

The girls are free to pursue an opportunity for personal gain just as we are free to start our own businesses. Some people will like what they are doing some won’t. Those who don’t can not participate or go to the site nor sign up. Free Country. These are not women of low morals even though you seem to think it might run amok. They are professional actors using what they have. A gig and an idea. Isn’t that the American way?

As for Lee…. The mention of personal information be it names of otherwise, is non-professional and has nothing whatsoever to do with this post. What he does with his own time is his business and needs no approval from us.

So again I say Fair wind’s to ‘em!

Well then we don't see eye to eye again...

I don't want any member or lurker to think that Marty is making a buck off of his character...right into his own pocket, and it can be percieved as such, since some of the other actors do exactly that.

I didn't post personal info -it's available on public websites...but w/ respect to Lee, I will remove the name mentioned...and I apologize to him and his family.

If anyone is interested...

I did check with Lee and yes, he wants everyone to know that he did the show with his entire clan there to over see the event. He said that is part of the joke.... He had his entire family there. in fact... they too where on the show.

Said it was nothing but bad jokes and quirky fun.

The girls came up with a show idea and they will try it out to the betterment or the bane of the world.... here's to industry!

And Lee said he had a terrific time.

Lee seems like the sort who often has a terrific time.

I don't think making a buck off your bit part is a big deal. A lot of actors who get cast in small roles in these fan-intensive movies get typecast and have trouble getting other roles. Take the guy who played C-3PO (Antony Daniels) or the guy who played Data (Brent Spiner). Where do they go from there? Mostly to other bit parts and TV one shots and stuff like that. Not high paying roles, by any stretch. Being a regular actor (I'm excluding stars here - Johnny is free from this problem, to be sure) has to be one giant in the butt. You basically have to interview for a new job against multiple other applicants on a regular basis. Phu-Yuck! So if they can carve out a niche somewhere based on their role in a bit part in a fan-fueled series...good on 'em.

As for the charity comment, that may be stemming from an aside in my previous post. Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate. Having been involved in volunteering for most of my life (often in multiple organizations at the same time), I can tell you what Arnie, a wise, Yoda-like friend of mine said. "No one does charity work for free. They always get something out of it, even if it's not money." Of course, I maintain there is no such thing as true altruism - and I say that without cynicism (if that's possible).

People get free PR, personal growth opportunities, leadership skills, resume lines, a feeling of good will in them, the ability to scope out the lower castes (if you're helping the homeless or some such...I've seen this one more than I'd care to - OK, that's cynical) and similar benefits and opportunities. This is to take nothing away from charity work, I'm all for it. I've been doing it for decades. I do volunteer trainings all the time, just to see how well I can do them. It makes me feel good. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is at least slightly self-serving. Such is the nature of humanity. (Even Mother Theresa believed she was doing God's will. Now there's an act with some upside benefit. OK, that was slightly cynical, too.)

I know statements can be misunderstood...it ain't the first time and won't be the last.

It is my opinion that this wench interviewing actors in bed ( I think the word rauchy was used)is not a good adventure. And it can be taken too far, even if not planned to be that way at all...There is no way that they can monitor the ages of people signing up.

People can do what they want...capitalize on their 5 minutes of fame.

John Bobbit worked around here as a bartender, for a few years after his eunuch incident, and people went to see him just to hear all bout his story for a fee...eeeeewwwwwwwwww...and people paid. Raunchy fer sure but not porn. Free country, but not acceptable to many and he was told to leave the area.

To each his or her own...

Oh and the noose was ref to the Golf Magazine incident...if you heard of it...

IF anyone, Mother Teresa has earned her glory in Heaven...

I've been volunteering since the 60's(*oh so THAT is where cjss comes from...bad acid*)...

Mother Teresa had said that we should start volunteering by looking in our own backyards. Today, the WORLD is in our backyard. Boundaries have been crossed 10 times 10...and yet there is still a need for charity work.

I am nobody. I am not looking for fame because I don't want it. I want to stay in my little ticky tacky house in NY and grumble about the high taxes that we pay. What do I get out of volunteering? I can't answer that. I feel good but not great. I always feel that I could have done better and after it's all said and done, I am physically and emotionally wiped out for a week.

Schools are requiring students to do a minimum of community service hours towards their graduation. IT's a good idea to encourage the students to get involved at a young age, but the need is so great and in so many directions that where does a young person begin?

I am discouraged that the better America becomes, the needy are increasing and it is hitting all levels of income.

This year's election will be a very interesting one... B)

I thought it was the Golf Channel and some lady interviewer said something to the effect to Tiger about the other competors lynching him or something like that, but just to mean come after him in heightening their own game and coming after him in that sense. The word was used at a bad time due to the upheaval due to the 'nooses' found everywhere stemming from the incident with those high school kids. Spin spin spin...and PC where will we go from here..sigh!

Can't say anything anymore with out it being misused.

Hmmmm I give to the thrift shop all the time and never ask for a receipt to claim it off of taxes. I figure that is my way of giving....in the sense of 'give/donate'.

Hmmmm.... this old gal is not so dull witted yet as to not keep up with current events m'dear. Yes, yes indeed I've heard of it.

Even read it.

I was just wondering what that had to do with this topic is all. Being as both of these women are intelligent, educated, sweet spirited, generous and unbiased.... no, I don’t think they would have considered using a noose in their rumpled bedding photos as you mentioned.

(chuckle) Their topic is about rumpled bedding... and those what do no approve are surely to be more comfortable if they remain on another dock and out of sight....

Those what enjoy the jokes can and those what don't... Well. no harm done to either side.

I wouldn't pay for it, because I have other and better things to spend my money on, but I can't find anything to be offended about.

After all, these girls are not doing anything wrong, they think they've found something they can make money off in a fun and and entertaining way and maybe boost their carreers while they're at it.
