Red-Handed Jill Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 http://www.queenbessandthepyrates.com/ This faire was formerly in Bakersfield, but due to the fairly inhospitable conditions, it has been moved up to Woodward Park in Fresno. I've never been to this park but have been told that it is a perfect location for this kind of faire. Tales of the Seven Seas will be there so stop by and say hello!
Ace of Harbor Bay Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Bump! The Pirates of Harbor Bay will be there as well... definately stop by. We'll be the Caribbean pirates caught smack dab in the middle of the feuding English and Irish. www.pirate4hire.com Pirates of Harbor Bay

Red-Handed Jill Posted May 7, 2007 Author Posted May 7, 2007 That was a heck of a lot of fun; Joyce Roberts does a great job with her faires. Due to the location of the event we couldn't fire cannons, so I built a tomahawk/knife/grappling hook arena (gotta love those cordless power tools - some very unpiratical sounds were emanating from the Tales of the Seven Seas camp the mornings before the faire opened...) We had lots of fun throwing sharp objects. My band, the Bloody Scupper Plunder Club provided some of the entertainment. We had no power so couldn't set up a sound system, but apparently folks within a fairly large area were able to hear us. One wee lad joined us for all of our performances and danced around the stage, clapping. His dad was delighted, although I'm not sure how happy he's going to be when Adam starts singing his new favorite song - The Old Black Rum - at preschool. At one point, he was joined by some other kids and they all jumped on to the stage and danced and clapped. And some girls dressed as fairies started dancing around the stage as well. Also, one of our pirates had been saying that he was going to get his ear pierced; he said this for several months but didn't do anything about it. Handily enough, there was a booth at the faire with ear piercing, so a bunch of us shanghaied Wheezer and dragged him over to get his ear pierced with much ceremony. We wrote a new verse for Drunken Sailor in his honor. And one of the groups was firing either large caliber guns or cannons at one point and the security folks ran over to our camp, since we have a well-deserved reputation for lots of bangs and booms. For once, it wasn't us...
Black Hearted Pearl Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Good to hear that you had a "blast" so to speak. Arrrgh you coming to Spring Ojai? ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.

Red-Handed Jill Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 Good to hear that you had a "blast" so to speak. Arrrgh you coming to Spring Ojai? That's the same weekend as our maritime weapons class, so we'll miss it this year.
Ace of Harbor Bay Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Aye a festive time it was!! With only 6 of our crew able to attend, we still managed to put up a nice little encampement. We had our "VooDoo Lounge " (Capn' Jack's VooDOo Shack when we are vending) filled with pillows and incense and directly outside one of our "Harbor Bay Photo Spottes. This was the cannibal throne against our large tresure map backdrop, surrounded by skulls on skewers and a mound ' skullz. Patrons could sit on the throne and wear the necklace of toes and crown and hold the ceptor for photo ops. We had another with our wheel, mast and figure head. Our centerpiece was our common area which consited of our fire, table and "bar' (which were made from parts salvaged from parts of our ship a terrible shipwreck). We fired flintlocks behind our encampement much of the day and in between had a combination of swordplay and whip work. www.pirate4hire.com Pirates of Harbor Bay
