  1. Welcome Red Dawn! I'm a teacher IRL, so I'm used to stupid questions. Fire away!

  13. Rock Hall was great-- Thanks Crimson!

  14. I'm packing to go right now. Four or five of my crew will be there as well. (I never did get my sword display rack finished, though. I'll lash something together when I get there.)
  15. You say that like theres' something wrong with learning Klingon! Well, both Na'avi and Klingon would be more useful than Esperanto.

  17. I can't wait to get to RockHall!

  18. Letting the sweat dry off after fencing and sipping a cocktail. I won my saber bouts, but lost in foil. Foil is a lubber weapon, anywho.
  19. Hilarious! My only fear is people will start learning Na'avi like they used to learn Klingon.
  20. Ahoy Capn Malasses, If yer playin' at Rock Hall, stop by the pirate camp or pirate tavern and chew the fat for a while. Then ye can ask as many questions as we can stands to hear. Lookin' forward to seein' ye
  21. I took my first fencing lessons at the local community college. The professor teaching the class may be able to hook you up with local clubs, even if you don't take the course. I also googled this: San Diego Fencing. If you shop on-line, you can get basic equipment for around $150.
  22. Without a doubt, it was Errol Flynn. Growing up in the early days of TV, old movies were used to fill up air time. My masculine role models were Errol Flyn and Cary Grant. (Forget John Wane and his sissy walk.) If I have half the bavado of Errol and a quarter of Cary's suave, yo soy muy macho.
  23. The thought has crossed my mind, though I don't out much stock in it.
  24. I am expecting a dilivery Monday, then my GAOP sword collections will be complete. Next project: Construct a display stand for all that steel.

  25. For me, it's as close as I can get to time-travel. The eighteenth century is a time period that has always resonated with me. During the day, I enjoy interacting with the public, especially kids. At night, I enjoy siting around the fire with old and new freinds. I also enjoy a good sword fight. I also love the sea and had the dream as a kid to sail with Jaques Cousteau on the Calypso. That led me to study science, and that's been my bread and butter most of my life. If you want to go to sea, join the merchant marine, or a fishing fleet, or become one of those guys that sails boats for people from one place to another. Modern piracy is not a good job choice-- Modern weapons in the hands of the coast guard or navy would ensure you'd have a very short career.
