  1. Can't you find someone on the Pub here willing to try out some of that good ol' time meddy-sin stuff on ye? Practicing medicine til he gets it right? It'd be free medical care...
  2. I use rubber bands on spiders...it helps my accuracy! When I was living in Fort Sam Houston (Army brat, remember), we had a severe mosquito problem. Big buggers, they were...set off the air raid sirens all the time (you could see them some 10 miles off, as they began to swarm into San Antonio), and some of them made off with half the duplex in which we were living at the time...not *our* half of it, of course. For all I know, that hole in the ground is still there... This is, of course, absolutely true. For a given value of true, that is...
  3. Nuts... well, that didn't take long.
  4. Even tho I don't get the redhead... "Now here is a little peninsula and here is a viaduct leading over to the mainland." As a hint, I will say this simple line will lead to no end of confusion on the part of the characters involved...
  5. Well, at first I thought...no, I better not say that, cuz it just might be a clue...but this is from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"... Can I have Jessica as my prize? ("We wants the redhead!")
  6. Oh yeah...I got that...found it at a local second hand bookshop, in decent condition. Too bad its long out of print, with no other more recent popular books on the subject...
  7. I'm still a Keeper of Larnin' an' Knowledge in Cuyahoga Falls...means I'm a blinkin' librarian. At the moment, the aforesaid library is undergoing some serious renovation. North side (Fiction) is all walled off from public (and us) and has been torn up...whole floor plan is being redone. Co-worker went and got the Reference/Adult Services Department (where I work) a hardhat...but I had to put the "webbing" in and explain, "No, ye bombhead, ye *don't* put a helment on yer head wi'oot some sorta suspension to absorb the impacts!" Feh, civilians...
  8. Navy brat, eh? Weeeelll... I be an Army Brat...in fact, I'm wearing my "official" US Military Brat t-shirt even as I type.
  9. Now, silly me, I thought it might have something to do with the Nurse Diesel line of "foundation" undergarments. I always wondered about the word "foundation" in reference to such things...
  10. Since I just loaded up HPSSims "Danube Front '85-Battle for Germany", I'm taking a little break from my usual readings in Pyracy and ancient Rome, and have delved into "The Anti Soviet Soviet Union", by Vladimir Voinovich, picked up at a local used bookstore, and in excellent condition. Really, it's like new. And I'm impressed with the writing as well as the author's impressions of the "good ol'" USSR ("From each according to his abilities, to each according to his rank. Was it Marx who said that? Or Lenin? Or maybe it was I who thought it up. I can't remember exactly anymore.") I'm going to have to look into more of this guy's writings.
  11. I'll refrain from any comment about this, because I certainly don't want to be a boob about it... (insert delicate cough here)
  12. Looks good, and I saved the file, but its old news. There's the ongoing Jamestowne Rediscovery Project, headed by William Kelso, and you can see something of it at: Jamestowne Rediscovery Most notably, the original 1607 fort has been found (it was not washed away by the James as they thought back in 1957), either a murder victim or a victim of friendly fire has been found...and maybe they have the remains of Barthelemew Gosnold, seadog and colonizer.
  13. I need to start saving these to make up a disk to take on my next Disney World trip. But first... A subject near and dear to *my* heart... FOOD! And what happens to those that can't get enough... Chow Hound And *this* time...I *didn't* forget the gravy!
  14. Here's a couple of shorts featuring a little known comedy team. And there's a lesson here, too...which is, beware of mice with axes! Scaredy Cat and... Claws for Alarm Keep these in mind the next time you visit Disney's Haunted Mansion...(and leave the cat at home)
  15. Ah yes, the Do-Do. Personally, I think the background artists were really dali-ing around on this one...
  16. The sorrowful tale of a bunny encumbered with a burden he can't get rid of, featuring a special guest appearance by Humphrey Bogart (He'll never amount to anything with a name like that...) 8 Ball Bunny
  17. Currently reading, among other titles, Juvenal's 16 Satires. Meaty stuff, and as cutting as an obsidian scalpel...which is pretty bloody sharp, let me tell you...
  18. Mad Capn Bob's jaw drops down onto the desk at the sight of John Maddox Roberts posting here! Love the SPQR books! I'm glad you liked it, and I've been working on an epic pirate book for some time. The Nossov book is quite good, by the way. JMR
  19. Now thats a sure and certain antidote to all the sappy vampire movies and books out these days...if only they could write Bugs into that "Twilight" series...be a vast improvement...
  20. I've been saving this one...a classic tale of college rivalries...featuring Dan Backslide (Coward Bully Cad and Thief), who utters the immortal line: "A runabout! I'll steal it! No one will *ever* know!" Keep an eye out for the damsel in distress...
  21. Me mum will be 90 years old March 3 2010. I'm sure she'd appreciate birthday greetings from a gang of brigands, cut-throats, ne'er-do-wells, and general pirates. Oh yes, and me own birthday is April 21.
  22. 1933?! Thats so old, i expected to see flintknapping!
  23. Here, as promised, is the sequel to Duck Amuck, Rabbit Rampage> Compare and contrast the two for yourself. Rabbit Rampage Sorry I haven't posted for a couple days...been hectic here, what with dealing with the Evil and getting meself in to work and all...but I got a few minutes to squeeze this in. At the moment, I see no signs of spring marching in...but lots of squirrels frolicking... And since I mention squirrels, I might as well make this a twofer, and offer up this fable for modern times (or they *were* modern over 50 years ago), the life of a squirrel in the Bigge Cittie... Much Ado About Nutting
  24. Hey, its dark outside! We got some of the current Bygge East Coast Storm...a few inches of the Evil, along with some winds to make it blow and drift...in fact, we're getting some Evil now...but here in Akron, its nothing like what was being predicted yesterday...I was hearing unpleasant words like "6-15 inches". However, likely because no one knew what the rest of the day was going to be like, all the schools were closed down this morning, throughout the region. Luckily, I didn't have to work today, so it didn't matter. Stayed home and made some Mediterranean Shrimp Soup. In a bit, I will be having milk and chocolate chip cookies, because I had to expend energy clearing off the Evil. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
  25. Thats true, about Mr B Bunny and E Fudd, that is. Perhaps its because we all think of the "wabbit" as being the perp, not the victim...at least not in this way. Of course, what makes Bugs Bunny funny in the Jones cartoons is the fact that, in the beginning of each cartoon, he's simply minding his own business, and anything that happens afterward is his revenge. But in "Rabbit Rampage", he's pretty much the victim throughout. I do plan on posting Rabbit Rampage today or tomorrow, for the sake of comparison.
