  1. welllllllllllll... we did research too....and i found my math mistake...instead of 45 wide fabric, we used 54.... so the crotch gusset is like extra huge..... but... when onus tucks a flap of it in the pants, looks like really cool.... adn we finished the caftan--which looks awesome....and the print is eye popping..( which is historically correct for 16-17th century) i will never get the pics up... never happen.. onus, that is YOUR job! i just do the sewing....
  2. question for you.... do you just want it to looook like period? or are you going for actual dead on accuracy, has to be right and certain people must approve, guild/ re enactor blessing/ personal satisfaction, money and time to toss at project? whom are you trying to please? do you have ANY photo where you can get close ups--as in are there any surviving period ones that have been photgraphed that you can look and SEEE how they actually did that particular jacket... and yes, the embroidery tecniques back then are incredible!!! my research shows that the pieces were cut then given to person to embroider the pattern ---then garment assembled..... i do suspect that if thread is embroidered over for depth over the joining seams, it was done after construction... and it might be that it was added after the garment was perhaps fraying at the seams to hide wear....(my nsho)
  3. Michael..... OH YAH OH YAH.... reading every word.... love the mock up pieces..... HELLLLLOOOO... WHAT FABRIC???? wheres teh pic of that???? LOL did yah get my FB message? burda pattern #... i so love to see your work.. for whatever reason, knowing someone else is working on a project is so personally motivating...INSPIRING.... AND.. for christmas i recevied the lutterloh pattern system( google it)( SOOO WORKS!!!)..... so been playing with math and string and paper and wondering if maybe that might be really useful in transfering waugh..... MIGHT BE BETTER THAN GRAPHING/ GRIDDING OUT FOR YOU... just trying to figure out the math relationhship/scale ( if there is any) of waughs drawings
  4. whoa h ho ho ho.... found me answers!!! www.historyofquilts.com tons and tons of reading!!!! egyptian gazelle quilting..... the tristan!!! ( dating 12/13th century) whole cloth quilting.... WOOL QUILTS! PIECED AND WHOLE CLOTH!!!! french, italian, dutch i am soooooooooooooooo psyched!!!! although i waffle on pattern and design.... fear way too much not being PC..... but all of my reading suggests that since i am not portraying a rich person, i can pretty much do as i please....
  5. not sure.....seems like the weather is always half and half.... unless it is in july or august....
  6. where is the pic???? i say wear it frayed and mixand match buttons....
  7. major booty of awesome cashmere winter coats....for mega cheap!!! wonder if anyone has done/ attempted this before... i gather that they will be quite a bit bulkier than regular stays.... but i see tremendous advantage as far as sewing trim around...as in, i plan on just whip/ button hole stitching around the tabs for finishing.... and tis pure glory to sew thru wool/ cashmere... using silk thread of course!!! TIA for all comments/suggestions/advice
  8. have pillaged many wool coats from good will.... and i am wondering and perusing old paintings ( in books) to see if i can get an idea what one would see--- but i know since we are pirates we can have a mix of rich and then humble blankets... i know from reading the calamitous 14th century, that blankets and pillows and such things were found many times in property lists and wills.. they existed.... but not always spoken in great detail unless it was a wealthy perrson.... anyone cite a few source?? anecdotes from other reading???
  9. ahhhhhh... a 1680s wool mans overcoat ( only because i cant find enough black cashmere coats to plunder) 2 new sets of stays, and a 1680's gown.
  10. the other day at jo anne, i saw a book called the embroidery stitch bible of stitches.... there were amazing forgotten stitches contained within.... also--- at your local library there are books on tapestries and in particular japanese stitching ... OHHH WHOOAAA...and instructions.... i DO KNOW that you want SILK THREAD FOR THE AWESOME qualities of shine and brilliance...
  11. all catholic parishes kept baptismal records. from late 1100's....... now about how one goes about looking at baptimal/ archival records of old catholic churches in england, france ,et al,,,,i dont know... i DO know that public records these days are released after 7 years after death- you can then research them... i just dontknow about records way older.... i would google the topic..........
  12. soooooooooooooooooo..... how many vendors? how many pirates? and how many pirates are registered to stay in the fort already?
