vintage sailor; that be too bad. What OS are ye running, not that Vista is it?? I hear lots of stuff will not run on Vista that runs fine on most older OS'...also there has long been some issues with dual processors, some applications are not written to know how t' use them (Poser and many 3D graphics apps had issues when dual CPUs first came out). I have NO IDEA what this app is written in. It ran smooth on the XP at school where I first downloaded (only 256M of ram and some oddball CPU that will not identify itself - it be a very cheap school!), and when I downloaded it on me Win200Kpro at home with 756M of Ram and only a PIII 850 I was not sure; it does give me a pop up telling me I do not meet the requirements and warns I may have performance issues - But it Runs great and smooth.. I just tried t' get a sceen grab but it refuses t' be captured??? The ships sail right on top o' yer desktop, but all I can capture be me desktop itself Minus th' ships, the floating powder keg mines, the occasional thunder storm cloud that tries t' mess up yer smooth sailing, the cannons blasting, the 'power ups' and loot that come and go (be quick t' grab them, and the enemy ship will try t' block ye too). I have made it t' the second level of the third battle, Del Fuego, but first I had t' win me way through three level each in Port Royal and Tortuga!! Port Royal twas rather easy, Tortuga they began t' attack from Two side, but these Del Fuego pirates do NOT play fair!! They some time come at me with THREE ship at once!!! And them bloody exploding powder kegs!!! Aye, Tartan Jack, tis too bad, Mac don't know Jack. But shouldn't the newer version o' Mac have extentions that allow them t' run PC based apps?? However this one is not just a simple app, I think it may be based in Direct X or something along them lines (seeing as it all floats ON TOP of the desktop the way it does). HEY, vintage sailor, maybe that be it, have ye updated yer Direct X from Microsoft?? I think they up around version 9 or so now. And what about yer graphics card, have updated it's driver at all??

Here be a grand game indeed, free but must play online - two bad as it would be a fine one for download. Pirate's Dice - Liar's Dice, just like in th' movies: http://www.thepiratesrealm.com/games/PiratesDice.html VERY well done, Excellent graphics, simple but Effective sounds. It plays very well and CAN be beat; ye plays against Turner and Jack, ye signs yer name t' th' third player. It plays very smooth, here be a few hints I have fer ye: Turner is a horrible liar, Jack is quick t' declare another a liar and gets frustrated if down t' just ye 'n him...play conservatively and ye just may save yer soul. If not, then it be - T' DAVEY JONES' LOCKER WITH YE!!!

Me sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery Captain Midnight's son, stand strong in will and spirit!

Too bad McGregor does not offer th' real deal, with so much detail t' authenticity yet made from resin... also: $5 for a single resin die vs $3 for a pair of real bone (comparing Roman vs standard dots, but still...) I like their description of Sheep's Knuckles! I wonder if that was played on ship during GAoP??
-
Haunting Lily: Aye, those horn ones will do. A soaking in a sweaty rag should help t' give them that 'well used' look (bone turns color as it adsorbs th' salt from yer body, learned that with me Maori Hook necklace). Also a good red-hot rod should touch up the spots a bit. Captain Satan: Aye, I already have a lead set, but they be a might heavy and make quite th' racket when tossed! Also I would imagine there would be some who may have a few words if they were tossed on their counter top...

I have been seeking some dice made of Bone and not having much luck within the US, plenty of sources overseas where I must pay extra due t' our weak dollar, vat tax, overseas shipping, etc. But none within the US colonies?? Of course now I be seeking 'olden' looking dice, preferable ones that LOOK handmade (if not truly handmade) and not the new, shiny, obviously machine made ones that ye can find at any hobby shop. Or, does anyone know where I can obtain raw bone that be solid through enough t' make me own? I need 5 total (perhaps even 10 or 20). But not antler bone, I would prefer bone from Inside a critter, or even ivory if it not be too expensive...yah, right!! What I am seeking would be like these: UK - Gothic Green Oak

Not sure but I think I recall have'n seen this posted a year or more ago but th' link would not work for me. I just found this t'day while surfing and have found it a bit hard t' walk away from! Desktop Galleon - and it be FREE (a pirate's favorite price!) http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1259 it be almost halfway down th' page, here be what they say: Here be what I say: Choose yer ship's sail colors, name yer ship, then sail about yer own desktop (offline!) and blow them double sons of a ship's cook outta th' water!! Gather gold, golden cannons, sail th' winds, and all with some pretty cool sound effects t'boot!! Only a 9meg download and it runs just fine on me own wee sloop with just a PIII 850Mhz and only 785K of Ram (it gives me a warning that I may have troubles, but none found yet! Smooth Sailing!!) So..while I be on bed rest due t' a minor weapon accident (cleaning me cutlass with th' safety off 'n it shot me in th' foot! ) I have someth'n t' do!!

What about the story that Sam Bellamy was after his fortune so as t' prove t' he's love's father that he was worthy of her...the story even says that he may have even steered int' the path of the storm that sunk him because he was changing course t' go see her, or that be what some stories say. It would seem t' me that a man who goes t' sea t' make a fortune for t' win a woman's heart and hand would be rather decent, in me own peeper's way o' things any how. Or ye can toss this one at yer opponent:

Better late then never (unless it be t' me own funeral). I don't get much time of late so I will consolidate: Cheeky Actress - Astounding gown! While I do not think they had belly dancers around in GAoP, least not in th' Caribbean nor th' colonies, I would certainly be as entranced with a fine lass in such a fine gown as I have been of late with a dozen belly dancing troupes! Corsairs Boutique - Mighty Fine indeed, and aye, I will 'ignore the bodice fit' as ye ask (just soon as I photo shop this dancer's mid-drift in....AH, got it!!) Tartan Jack - Me hat off t' ye sire! I still can not get them button holes right!! Bloody 'ell too as I want soon t' start on me new bag and need t' get them stitches straight! I just got me new breeches in, but it seems I will need t' take them to th' tailor; for some reason I have a 44" waist but when I order breeches in th' size for 42"~46" they are always about 4"+ too large....?? With the back gusset tight all the way (which should fit a 42" waist) they fall right down...just like me last pair? Good thing I found a local tailor that, while he gives me strange looks, gives me good work for a cheap price (only $10 to take in me last pair) I was however a bit surprised to discuss some of the details about this newest pair in comparison to me last couple pair. Concerning the gusset I was told that they could find no evidence of a back piece of cloth (sewn over where the 'V' is cut) where Mid-1600 to very Early-1700 designs are concerned. She told me they could not find a pattern that way until after 1730. Also this new pair (designed for 1650~1720 was my request) it is Much fuller then those I have gotten from Jastown or elsewhere that cater mainly to the civil war groups. The waist band is cut much thinner too and they said they fly is NOT covered the way Black Bear and Jas does. But she does fine work, all hand sewn on outter seams and only machined on parts not seen...not nearly as intricate as me shirt Captain Sterling did but with that finery I needed to step up the rest. Now I just need to decide on a cravat with or without lace....? OH, and this weekend I met a pirate who had a FINE coat, I asked him what it be made of and he told me "I don't know, is is the coat worn in the opening ball scene of Cutthroat Island" - no joke he said, the very same coat! He said he has been doing pirates for many years now. So I put that CD in last night to see - IT IS! The very same coat that the actor (whatshisname) wears when he jumps over the stair case and gets caught! - Nice Coat! Much detail!! Here is a photo of him (one on the Right): and here is a new one of me with me new Dutch Cutlass (Windlass brand) visiting the Privateers of the Black Sail; aye, that be Captain Oberon's seat I am in, I dare him t' do someth'n about it too!!! HA! oh, and the conchos used on me sword belt are by RenFairPirate, the ones he made from Spanish coin. If anyone see's him then tell him I have a leather worker interested in buying some from him...I dropped him a couple messages but have not heard back as of yet...

Interesting group this onebe, met one of the actors from the XXX rated PIRATES movie...damn, couldn't it have been one of the <i>Actresses</i> instead?!! <img src="http://pyracy.com/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> -

The one in the middle (Silverbeard I think he calls himself) is the very coat from Cutthroat Island, worn in the opening ball scene where the actor gets caught after jumping off the stair case wearing it. Awsome detail work, and apparently well worked for this lad Still be wearing it after he...uh, procured it, in an auction!! -

That naught be a cod piece That be me shark tooth pricker fer t' clean out me pecker, th' rum flows thick this time o' year ye know I am think'n o' stripping off th' leather from th' shell guard on me new Dutch cutlass, I read somewhere where someone found reference t' velvet being use'd and I think that would be nice. She be th' LAST one o' her kind that Windlass made, there aint be no more, but there is a another maker what now be make'n a Dutch style cutlass, a bit broader, heavier and with three blood grooves, I read mixed reviews about it so I was glad t' catch this last one from Windlass. Now I need t' find some fine period type silk t' re-do me let tie garters, or perhaps some other fancy pattern linen, but silk would be nice. I have a piece o' leather sew'd inside them so they don't bunch up during th' day and they don't slip pass'd me calfs.

Thank'ee much. Th' rope work is all me own using Stockholm tarred marline from American Rope & Tar except for the dagger scabbard what be un-tarred hemp from R&W Rope then I tarred it me own self after wrapping with genuine Stockholm.....smells purdy! Still working on th' arrangement however; th' dagger can go either side but then I have t' fiddle with me pouch (needed fer me coin & camera - a magic box what takes pictures) as well as me ship keys ye know, also me eat'n knife as I no longer have boots t' tuck it int'....all reason fer two belts, I keep me pouch, protection charms (eye candy) and utilities on under-belt and killing equipment on sword belt; waist coat has two fine pockets just large enough fer two fine flasks o' rum ;p

Me new late 1600 to early 1700 waistcoat by Quartermaster General The wonderful shirt (what th' wind-not th' rum ruined me pose and now it don't show well) by Captain Sterling Me new 'one o' a kind' Sword Belt and leather scabbard (posed on wrong side due t' much rum) commissioned by Barbossa Leather Here be a much more better shot o' th' belt: Detail of leather work on back: Oh! I almost forgot (still drained from two days o' NorCal) - th' wonderful coin conchos on th' belt be from Fair Pirate here at th' pub as well!

( hu? can't find now who said it first - damn me aging peepers!) The one and most truly statement be: "Who is the maker's target market?" Of course from an artist's perspective PoD designed them as 'aged' as this is what the 'artist' sees when researching his/her project, this is what is on the museum walls, in the records, and often then not what they see in the movies. My guess is that at least 90% here first set out to 'age' their kit, why? because that is what we see in our mind when we think how to be a 300 ot year old character. But then of course, as we go along we begin t' think of such rational things as: "Am I 300 years old, or am I portraying a character 300 years ago?" I would have t' stand with PoD, he is th' artist and creator, his muse told him what t' make and personally I think it a fine piece, one I have book marked t' return t' me own self. Perhaps th' proper approach would be more like: PoD, would ye be so kind as t' consider make'n some fer us reenactors what not be look'n 'aged'? Would ye be so kind as t' consider make'n some what look 'freshly issued', perhaps even some what look 'slightly used'? ...'n then if he refuse, we will pull out th' Plank!
-
Hey! I resemble that remark!! ...uh, now what were we talk'n about?
-
Aye, I must concur with Capt Sterling. As I began approaching some o' me new clothing and other articles it occurred t' me; "Why would I want this t' look like it be 300 year old when I tell people I am 'living' in era? Am I time traveler or something?" I think the more correct approach would be t' make it look 'Weathered' not 'old' or 'aged'. Items I hang on th' wall me modern home would be 'old, ragged, and aged' but stuff in me kit should be 'worn, weathered, and lived in'.

Not GAoP but kinda interesting (plus t' put me two bits in), th' UPS Store near me be sell'n paper what looks just like that hemp paper, only it be made from.....elephant dung (aye, that be what th' package says "made from elephant dung") Anyone want added t' me Christmas card list?

Well, being sick did have an upside, it gave me some time t' crawl around in pain and finally get me first leather project done! Me first shaped leather scabbard fer me stage sword - thanks for th' leather Sage Lion! Full sheath Close up o' th' throat Close up o' th' tip, business end Now I am not sure how Barbossa Leather does his exactly but I used it as me inspiration and researched some leather working ideas online. After cutting th' leather t' size (actually 'over sized' as th' final cut be after all is sewn up) I soaked th' leather in Very Hot tap water for roughly 15min. (NOT boiling, that is another technique but I did not want t' chance it first time around). While th' leather was soaked and workable I stretched it over th' blade and used flat wooden slats and several clamps t' clamp it down (along where ye see me sew work at). Now mind ye, this be an Aluminum sword; for fine steel be sure ye oil it WELL before wrapping in wet leather!!! I would recommend a good thick fish oil if possible, like what steel from th' steel mill comes covered in - really messy stuff (aye, I was once a wrought iron worker, came home covered in th' stuff!) I left it stand for a good 24 hours t' dry; times will vary but at th' time it twas about 88~96 degrees out. After several hours I began pulling th' sword in and out and working it around, just so it don't tighten up too much as th' leather drys out. After a day I took out th' sword and removed th' clamps, th' shape was made and holding well so I let it dry out another couple days so the inside fully dried. (sorry I did not think t' take photos of these steps - remember, I was sicker then a dog!) Once dried I died th' two pieces (main body and throat collar) with Fiebing's oil dye (had t' ship from Canada as California has some law against it) - mind ye; this dye dries a LOT lighter then th' swatches!! It turned out much lighter then I had wanted, even after a second coat; I will remedy that once I can get me hands on some darker dye. The dye dries fast, I could have started sewing within several minutes, but I was sick, so I started a day or two latter. First I fixed th' collar t' th' body with a Button Stud from Eleather Supply and anvil (aye, they have a special li'l anvil fer them studs), then I placed th' sword in and began t' sew it up with Sinew. Now this is me first attempt at such a project so ye may notice me slight mistake; th' sword only goes in so far and about a 1/4 o' blade be exposed. This happened as I squeezed too much when I reached th' tip and was forming th' leather over, I did not notice and th' force squeezed th' blade out a tad, by th' time I notice it twas too late, th' holes had been punched and stitches in place...oh well, I be a fighter not a tailor! Well, there ye have it; a Shaped Leather sword scabbard. I know there were many who were aghast when I spoke of soaking th' leather, but it is actually a whole art in leather craft and much info available on th' net about it: Google up 'Leather Armor' and 'Cuir Bouilli' As fer Barbossa Leather's concerns about keeping a razor sharp blade in an all leather scabbard, I think I have now turned he'm as well; both me Windlass POTC replica as well as me Windlass Dutch Cutlass (aye, I purchased their last one; they make them no more) are now housed in one o' he's scabbards (a bit thicker leather then what I got from Sage Lion of course, but mine just be fer a stage blade)
