  1. Here is a light wool coat we started putting together today, kind of "a la Capt Morgan". Not historically correct and doesn't match the rest of my kit but I thought it would be nice to have a warmer piece just in case. Probably wont get much use for it here in Florida anyway.

  2. .... "have you tought him to talk any? or do any tricks?"

The only thing he says all the time is "Hi Phoenix" and "Hello baby" When I'm not paying attention he does come up with some stuff of his own, like saying "yes, hello" when the phone rings. As for tricks he does know how to play fetch. I'll roll a ball across the living room floor and he'll chase it down and push it back to me (most of the time).

  3. I saw Emerson, Lake, and Palmer live at Buffalo War Memorial Auditorium in 1977 or 1978. I can't really remember exactly, I must have been a little out of it at the time... but it was a great concert !

  4. I'm about halfway through "Empire of Blue Water -Captain Morgan's Great Pirate Army, the Epic Battle for the Americas, and the Catastrophe That Ended the Outlaws' Bloody Reign" by Stephan Talty. It's been pretty good reading so far but borrows a lot from Exquemelin and Johnson (don't they all). Next in line is a copy of "Captain Kidd and the War against the Pirates" by Robert Rictchie that I picked up on Amazon for $2.00 this week.

  5. What pirate would be complete without one of these ???

His name is Phoenix, I hand-raised him since he was a featherless baby. He was still pretty young in this picture, about 8 months I think.

  6. If the blacksmith would let me know what he needs for tent stakes or any other small projects I can bring it down with me. I can probably pick up some round or square stock at a pretty good price at the same place I get my galvanized wire in bulk. I used to get 14ga wire for making maille in 200lb spools fairly cheap.

  7. I made reservations and was planning on staying at a local B&B but I would rather be at the Fort. I have a wedge tent from my Civil War reenacting, is it close to what you will be setting up or would it be too far out of period to use here?

If I can make due with what I have I think I will cancel my hotel reservations... then I would have some extra $$$ to pick up a couple flintlocks from Callenish Gunner.

  8. Ahoy there, this be my first post here and like to add my name to the list of confirmed crew. I'm hoping to fit in wherever extra bodies are needed at the event. I'd also like to offer some help to those that might be needing a ride to Key West.

My lady and I will be driving down from Boca Raton on the morning of Thursday 11/29 and would be willin' to pick up any able bodies who happen ta need a ride from Fort Lauderdale or Miami airport.

We have a large van and can take up to 4 more crew plus their gear (maybe 5 if we squeeze em in). We'll leave for our home ports on Monday afternoon for anyone wanting to make the return trip.

All we ask in return is for some of you to show us around and include us in the fun. This will be our first PIP but both have our kits together and are adding more as time goes by. We already have our reservations made and will be staying offsite at a B&B but want to join in on any activities at the fort where we might be needed.

( I also posted this in the ride share thread...)
