  1. As best as I can remember. The first I heard of mandatory tip breakage was around 1515 and was left to the Captains descression. It was also an issue of accidental deep cuts from heaving seas and the like of rough weather. Where a mate or able was not as prone from years of being on board a press or lubber didn't have that experience and coordination.

  2. Just curious to know if there are any other pirates in the great lone star state. The only events I know of that might attract such scurvy dogs would be the Scarborough Fair (alas, already past) or the big Texas Rennesance Festival (not untill October). Anyone know if there any other pirate events in these parts?I know we have a local SCA, but I don't know if there are any pirates in the group...

Aye lass, there do indeed be Pirates in the Lone Star State. We be the Texican Privateers. Texican Privateers Outside of Scarbi & TRF there is also Cavalier Days but no true Pirate Fests. We throw a Buccaneer Beach Bash every year. As well as a Buccaneer Backyard BBQ. William thanks for pointing her our way. Ifinya email me I will put you on our list and let you know whenever we get together. lloyd@livelydjs.com

  4. Today I bought a felt hat blank. Thought I'd make it into a tricorn. Now I realize I don't know how. I've heard of 'steaming' and 'ironing' but I'm not sure how that applies to forming the brim into a tricorn shape. Can anyone tell me the basic process? TIA!

Boil water in a teapot or pot with a lid. Once you have a good amount of stem. Shape hat in the form you want it. Place in the steam until moist and pliable but not soaked. Let dry. Repeat as needed.

  7. Well, post up when ye gets yer minds made. I'm not working TFR this year (and won't be till the current entertainment director is beathing water). Many me mates work it thow. Stop by the information booth at the front gate and pays yer respects to Miss Mable and her crew there. Can't miss her. She's the big redhead. Then the executioner by the May Pole be Master Barthalmew Smyth. Just call him Derly.

  8. I've been hunting on the net for two things that I'm wanting to get for my pirate attire, and have been unsucessful in finding these.

First, I had a nice looking cap-fire blunderbuss that I carried when I was at faire. Alas, it got lost and never recovered at Texas Renaissance Faire last year. I've been as of yet unable to find one that I could buy ahead of time to have for Texas Rennaissance Faire this year. So, I'm posting here to ask for any advice on if anyone knows of any online vendors that may sell decent looking cap-fire pistols or inexpensive non-functional replicas.

The second thing I've been looking for deals with a post I tacked onto in the Rabble Rousing area about Tattoos. I'm in searching for decent looking temporary tattoos of a skull and crossbones, in particular ones that a pirate would have [if it were real].

Thanks in advance for any information I can get!

    Morick Towain

Captain of the Pirate Brethren of Texas

Hey Morick. I talked with one of me mates, Miss Mable who be in charge of information and the lost and found at TRF. She said it wasn't turned in. Which is odd. Most things lost do come back. We've seen walletts with hundreds of dollars and credit cards still in them. Medications, etc. Sorry about that.

here is a good source for Cheap Stuff. or check out my links page.
