  1. What was the date on the Travel Kit?

Well being me....I forgot to take a photo of the plaque next to it, but Michael remembers it being in the late 1700's. According to some other websites that I have seen drawings of such kits on, they are very similar for a couple hundred years. That kit is kinda what I am looking to have Michael help me do in the not too distant future....so I have been doing a good deal of looking into them. :)

Another Etui set, though the photo didn't turn out as well. Top: Table clock, silver book cover.

middle: pocket compass, watch, child's thimble case.

Bottom: Mirror, scissors, case, ear cleaner/bodkin, Ivory writing tablet.

The dates on the plaque were 1680-1700.

Another toilet/travelling service from the early 1700's. On the little back ledge part is a silver tray and writing set with a bell in the middle.

From left to right: Hairbrush, wisk, scent bottle, eyebrush (in the little cup thing), and a funnel.

  4. I have to apologize as well for the "knee jerk reaction" from my other half. Most of it was my paranoia, and I am ashamed to admit that I am a little gun shy (pardon the pun) when it comes to immersion because of being previously burned (and burned badly) doing something such as that.

My style of re-enacting, I suppose, is more of a demonstration style. I am decidedly NOT good with accents and remembering that I am actually Kate, and not Jessica. There is where my problem lies.

Funny thing is, when I worked at a ren faire for a good few years, I had no problem staying into character....then again, how hard is it to be the shopgirl?

I do want to try at PiP though. I can't guarantee good results, and I definately can't guarantee that I will be up for putting on the airs every day, but I think that I have written Michael and I up a decent (and very flexible) history that can be worked into the whole deal.

    Wow...my train really de-railed with that....didn't it?

  5. Items of affection were also something a lady would have.

As Kate noted, a portait miniature-enamel painted on copper. I have seen them also painted on ivory and porcelain. I would love to have one made up...but the cost is a bit much.

I am also looking into death rings of the time. This would be a wonderful keep-sake item for a man or woman during the late 17th century/early 18th century too.

Items of affection? I am just curious as to what this is? Like the portrait miniatures and such?

I did get some shots of rings from the period too. Like I said, I have to edit the photos because my camera takes ENORMOUS photos so I have to shrink them down for posting on the board, but I will try and get some up later on today when I get home. Gotta drive to Ohio from Canada today, ya know.

  6. Lovely items! Was that first quarter 1700s? If so, fantastic!

This particular set was dated 1750's, but there was a second set (in which the photo did not turn out very well), dated 1690's. They were nearly identical, very similar in style and design. The second set, however, did not include the folding ruler.

It is incredibly hard to get a good photo through glass with mobs of people around. I still have to edit the rest of the photos, but I will try and post them up today or tommorrow. :)

  7. Went to the Royal Ontario Museum today...great section with lots of goodies from the period...

1.) Tea caddy with paper quill work

2.) Toothpick box with combined toothpick/ear cleaner

3.) Portait Miniature-enamel painted on copper.

4.) Etui- Container of tools for needlework and personal needs. Tweezers, scissors, folding ruler, knife, and ivory writing tablet (for use with a pencil and it wipes off)

All of these were dated 1700's. :)

  8. Kate,

You may want to consider other items related to your faith.

Other than the bible, you may want to consider a period rosary...(depending on your faith, of course).

I do have such an item for sale. I can email you a photo of it if you were to PM me. Thank you.

I have one, Miss Cheeky, but thank you for the offer. A lovely lapis and silver one. B)

  9. It's taken me a while to get this posted up here...but at RF4, we got some 'ladys things'. Michael bought me a small hand mirror and a cobalt blue inkwell and a prayer book. I also got my writing set as well.

I collect 'stuff', not necessarily to carry it all around, but for the set up of it, if that makes sense. Really....I don't carry all that much on my person when I am at an event, so I think we are doing well with the stuff gathering.

If any one has any other ideas, please let me know! :)

  10. Thanks for the compliments, guys! I worked on that last night....the photo is us at Viking Fest last year and the rest is a candid shot of part of your amp from RF4. Hope no one minds.

I think the name suits....I just need to see if I can change my posting name here somehow.

  11. and here's Mr Bagley consoling his woman...after TigerBillie and Maddogge BOTH asked her to dance....

    P2090458.jpg

Oh dear Maddogge- I wouldn't have needed consoling had you asked me to dance. Well...I might have needed a foot rub...

Michael helped me pick my piratey persona name *points to the signature*.

Ilanah is just my bellydance persona. Or....was. I don't dance much anymore.

  12. To Michael Bagley and his beautiful Jessica, it was a lovely pleasure meeting you both. Michael you are welcome to bring mead ANYTIME and Jessica thank you so much for letting me doll you up before the ball. I hope you were happy with the ‘bunny’ patch. You both looked stunning that night.

Thanks for dolling me up, Cheeky. It was fun! I loved spending time with you and the twins! The bunny....hysterical. I showed the photos to my best friend and she kinda looked, then looked again, then said to me: "Is that a bunny....and what's it doing there?!"

  13. Thank you, Sterling. That website was -incredibly- helpful and had some beautiful things on it. I am not by any means trying to gather everything at once in one fell swoop, but I wanted to obtain a visual of some of the items to keep my eyes open for. I had tried surfing the net to find these things, but never found anything of relative importance.

Either way, I have been perusing that website for the better part of an hour (working around trying on my new stays that Michael just completed half hour ago...pictures soon to come I imagine). Thanks!

  14. I suppose that, in needing to know the answer to a rather difficult question, I should have perhaps posed it myself instead of sending Michael in to do my dirty work. Though my other half (note that I did not say 'better' ) wrote what I asked, that was not necessarily what was in my little brain.

Having previously done viking re-enactment, we had all of the little details and accessories down to a 't', as it were. Combs, toiletries, utensils, crafting, etc.

I did read through everything that Sterling posted (which...you nearly need an entirely separate language to interpret), I am still at a bit of a loss in regards to the general 'stuff' that a lady might have. I like accessories...more than the garb in most regards because I feel that the accessories are what actually makes it. Does that make any sort of sense? Like I wonder if a silver handled mirror would be appropriate? Or a silver comb with ivory teeth? Small crystal jars with powders and scented waters?

I am gathering an understanding in regards to the period writing utensils, thanks to the Whydah exhibit and Michael's insistence on dragging us down there twice. The second time around, I noticed the brass dip pen, lead inkwell, and brass seals. And thankfully, I have a certain pirate making me a portable lapdesk that will keep everything contained nicely once I gather the needed supplies.

Though I will keep looking and reading, if anyone has some artful direction that they can provide, that would be fantastic. Anything helps and everything is definately considered.

    Was I clearer, Michael?
