  1. I was at the event last year and had a great time. I have been out to sea pretty much since the event last year, so haven't been able to keep up on things. If someone would like to e-mail me and fill me in on things that would be great! I plan on staying at the fort again with the group I was with last year, so I guess that means the 1720 Careening Camp. You can count me in as confirmed as I have a radar observer training the week prior in Ft. Lauderdale and an Outward Bound instructor training the week after in Key Largo. I am still trying/ hoping to get or sail a long boat down, so I may need some crew to help me. I will keep you posted. E-mail me directly rustyrice@mac.com and let me know what is going on and if I need to be in touch with anyone else. Capt. Rusty
  2. I am on a ship in Long Beach, CA. Is there anyone that would be interested in car pooling from down here for this training? Capt. Rusty
  3. Count me in. I hope to bring a long boat for the event. Otherwise I will be in the careening camp. Capt. Rusty
  4. On that note, I will need to put together a crew for my boat. I don't have a car/truck so the boat will need to be sailed or rowed down (no moter power). I do not have a boat yet, but most likely will be moving one from the Northeast if I obtain my own by then. If not I may try to boworrow one from Outward Bound in Key Largo, so would need help bringing it down. No experience necessary, I am an Outward Bound instructor, so with a completely green crew, I could teach you what you need to know along the way. If interested drop me a line and lets start networking and see what training we can get in before then. If anyone knows of a pulling/ long boat for sale let me know. If anyone would like to be an invester and part owner of a long boat contact me as well. I have access to a long boat here in the LA area and can get people out. We are just looking for an excuse to get it underway.
  5. Just so you know as you plan your sea chest. I just shiped my fairly modern sea chest (Army medical foot locker type thing) from NY to California for the ship I am on and it cost me a good $88! Of course I am here for six months so it is more worth it. If you are making a traditional one for yourself, would you consider making one for someone else?
  6. I am just now jumping back onto this thread, I have been traveling around a bit since PIP. Count me in again for PIP next year. I have a training that looks like will be at that same time, so I am looking for an alternative so that I can still attend. Anyway I am in California now (Long Beach) as first mate on the Tole Mour. Anyone wanting to help me network out her, drop me a a line.
  7. java script:emoticon(' ') I see my site has had quite a few hits already, but if you haven't found them yet there are PIP pictures on my web site as well. Capt. Rusty java script:emoticon(' ')
  8. java script:emoticon(' ') Had a great time at PIP. I was traveling in South Florida after and then had an Outward Bound Seamanship training out of Key Largo. Only now do I have time to post. There are lots of pictures on my website from the event. Check them out. Capt. Rusty http://web.mac.com/captrustywildrice/
  9. Patrick Hand postin' But we have a pewter and internet...so were postin' live from PIP......... 'avin' a great tyme wish you were here...........
  10. My introduction to tall ships and the Keys was sailing a schooner with a group of Boy Scouts out to Fort Jefferson every week for a summer. I think that would be a great place for a pirate festival. Count me in. Capt. Rusty
  11. Is there a time line for check in? The greyhound I am catching doesn't get into town until after 11 pm. Capt. Rusty
  12. I am new here, so I apologise if I didn't post this in the best place. Traveling Pirate in need of Quarters and a ride. I am flying out to California to be first mate on the three masted schooner Tole Mour. The ship is flying me out but before I am sighn on, I am doing a quick trip up to Washington to see my bonnie lass and some friends. The life of a professional pirate (tall ship sailor is always on a tight budgett). I fly into LAX at 9:15 pm on 12/23 and then fly out again on 12/24 at 6:15 AM. I would like a ride and a place to crash for the night if anyone would like to help me. I don't think it makes much sense for me to try to make it to the ship that late at night only to leave early in the morning again. I fly back into LAX on New Years Eve at 3:06 PM and will then need a ride to the ship or to the Lady Washington for the new years eve party/ crew reunion. In return I will give you a dock side tour of the Tole Mour and if I can swing it (no promises) a sail sometime. Also, what should I know about flying with flint locks? Other than the obvious, don't put them in my carry on and don't bring any powder. Capt Rusty
  13. I am not sure which thread to post this on, but I will try here and see what turns up. Two things. What should I know about flying with flint locks? Other than the obvious, don't put them in my carry on and don't bring any powder. Secondly. I was going to car pool down with some friends from SC. It turns out that flying directly is the best option for me of any available. Anyone want to car pool from Mimai, or meet up on the bus or shuttle? I arrive in miami at 2:46 PM on 11/29. I will also need to get back up towards Miami or Key Largo after the event as well. Capt Rusty
  14. I had to change my plans, rather than meeting friends in SC and car pooling, flying seems to be the cheapest option for me. I arrive in Miami at 2:46pm on the 29th. Anyone want to car pool or meet up to take the bus or shuttle together? I will need to find a way back up towards Miami or Key Largo after the event as well. Capt Rusty
  15. Now will this masage be available at Pirates in Paradise in Key West?! I will bring the rum? Better yet care to join me in my cabin on my ship in LA?
  16. It'll be rum of course. And the next round is on me. java script:emoticon(' ')
  17. I just signed articles to join the group of Pyrates. I recently joined the group Free Men of the Sea after having several encounters with them as the first mate of the Contenental Sloop Providence (www.sloopprovidenceri.org). I will be at Pirates in Paradise in Key West since I have some training with Outward Bound immediately following that. I have been a proffessional Tall Ship Sailor since 1996. Recently I have been first mate on the Lady Washington (of Pirates of the Caribbean "Interceptor" fame) and The Sloop Providence (of Dead Man's chest fame). This winter I will be first mate on Tole Mour, which unfortunately does not engage in Pirate activities, but does work with Kids, and that is what is important. I work lots with Outward Bound as a captain, so I am very familar with Pulling boats and long boats and know most traditional rigs (sprit rig, dipping lug, standing lug, gaff...). I love to get out on the water as often as I can, even though I am out all the time anyway. I love to teach as well. That is what I do. So if you are new to a boat and need help with it, don't hessitate to look me up. If you need crew for a ship or boat, or have any questions on things nautical, be sure to use me as a resource. I am looking to meet new people and be involved in local pirate groups wherever I happen to be sailing. Next stop Long Beach, CA. Look me up. I have plenty of cloathes to be an 18th century sailor, but I am still working on things for my Pirate kit. I may be asking for advice on things like guns and swords and such. I like to be as historically acurate as my paycheck will allow. Check out my web site for pictures of my adventures. Such as a role in a recent documentary on Benidict Arnold, and work on Pirates of the Caribbean II and III. Capt. Rusty Wild Rice 200 ton near coastal master http://web.mac.com/captrustywildrice/ java script:emoticon(' ')
  18. java script:emoticon(' ') I am a new member of Free Men of the Sea out of New England. Formerly the first mate on the Continential Sloop Providence as of monday. I am new to Pyracy Pub. I will be at Pirates in Paradise and will be staying at the fort. I have been in touch with the fort already and will be doing some education for them. I am traveling light so won't have any extra gear with me as I am doing an Outward Bound pulling boat training in Key Largo the weekend following. Look forward to seeing you all there. I hear rumor of a ship comeing in. If anyone needs crew for the event I am a 200 ton near coastal master. I am also interested in car pooling with anyone before and after the event. Thanks! Capt.
