  1. I'm gonna guess this is a Fayma question, but if there are any here that know if there is a more appropriate person for this, please let me know who, or if possible would you mind passing the question along. Trish and Shannon have submitted their registrations (on time even! And if you knew them you'd understand the miracle that is ), and at first they did not submit a registration for young David as there was some doubt about his coming (he was going to stay with his bio-dad). Now it seems he is more likely to come than not. He is a 14 or 15 year old teen, so he won't be fighting or any of that, is his late registration going to be an issue? Or is it even required? Looking for some guidance on how best to proceed with this. Thanks for any and all help.
  2. Dutch, I couldn't agree more. I even downloaded the image and blew it up as much as I could on my computer... While it is a bit blurry, I would still say it very much looks like small checks. P.S. I only bothered to zoom in on the gent sitting in the chair in the foreground part of the picture, I didn't bother with the three in the background). Mission, trousers were pretty typical of sailors, I haven't done any reading as to their commonality on more land-lubbery types... But I see no reason why not. However, I would guess they would still be wearing tall socks. (although it would be impossible to determine for absolute sure if those stockings were long or short, because those pants are long)
  3. The below image in particular, has always struck me as what I would imagine the more average naval officer on a merchant ship would look like.
  4. While I am sad on William's behalf that it be 2 hours further from Utah , that does make it 2 hours closer to me!
  5. A Spring event.... Hmmm... Do you know what month that is in?
  6. Mickey Souris (michaelsbagley) - Columbus, Ohio (Near no sail-able body of water as well) You could probably add my wife too... Kate Souris (Kate_souris) - Columbus, Ohio
  7. Nice pics! Looks like it was a great event, good assortment of styles of encampments. Looks like you and the fam had a great time as well!
  8. I like it. My mind is elsewhere, but I can't help but feel like something is missing from it... But that just may be my distractedness.
  9. When he is done with those, I have about ten (or a dozen) Lockhouses worth of photos he can do. Brilliant job William! I think the wife only got around 200 photos from this event, mind if we forward them on for fixing Mr. Red Wake?
  10. While it wouldn't be a "real time" feed, it might be possible for one of us with a "CrackBerry" could take a short video and post it (Facebook being the easiest target for such)....
  11. No, we were gentle with her, so I am fairly certain no further bars in her gibbet cage were broken... But I couldn't keep my eye on her the entire time, so when we unpack her tonight, I might find another bar that has been gnawed through (although I hope not). I also waited until after this trip to repair her, so that if any more bars broke, I could perhaps divide some of the "patches" you sent. I'll be repairing the gibbet this week and then packing it for her trip south. Did she break any more bars in her on-going attempts to escape and eat Jessica's brains when she is all alone at the house? (I didn't make her, you know - she's a very quiet undead.)
  12. Or you could come with us... Heck your creation Becky made the trip, I see no reason why you couldn't as well. In Spanish the word is vosotros (masculine) and vosotras (feminine). so you could use that. I need to plan to attend this event in the future. I've wanted to ever since Mary Diamond posted photos of it from a few years back. That and Ojai are on my wanna' list... If only Duchess would abduct me since she has a little plane.
  13. Hey Bilge Monkey... I've only gone to PiP once myself... And will be attending for the second time this year, but my take on the festival is that it is a Pirate festival, with all of the connotations that implies. Yes there are pirate (and pirate related) re-enactors there, and the re-enactment portion of the festival is a growing one (specially for the Fort Taylor portion of the festival), but it is still a pirate festival for all pirates. I think authentic (or a reasonable effort to be so) is only a requirement for the period encampment, for those coming to play in the festival with other accommodations, there is no rule or real push for authenticity. Now this is all just my take on it, there are plenty here that are closer to, or a part of the organizing bodies that would know a ton more than I would. And maybe they will weigh in here.
  14. Give it until tonight... Then there will be plenty!
  15. It was awesome to finally meet you Hawkyns.. Even if you did conspire with the wife to pull one over on me. It was great to meet a lot of new people, and to get to spend more time with some others I have only seen once or twice before!
  16. Here is a small sampling of the extent buckles (and buttons) that I have in my collection.... There is a ton more, I just haven't taken photos yet.
  17. I just saw the above quote on the left side bar of the web site... So it looks as if they have started making them without points, which was always the reason I shied away from them. That cutlass at $225 is a pretty good deal for stage steel, even if one wanted to put the work, time and/or money into re-hilting it.
  18. Nice work! Wood block printing is a pretty rare and cool skill!
  19. I've never owned one, but a few friends have them... But it is a matter of taste. I find them to be well built and sturdy, but a bit too heavy for my taste. Also if you are looking for one of their stage steel models, in the past I have found that they don't round the point enough for my taste... However not everyone is as concerned about the point as I am, some are content with a dull edge. They may have also changed the style of their blades in the last few years, in which case all of my thoughts are pointless and outdated.
  20. Okay, I am going to have to admit some guilt here. I meant to send them Saturday (the deadline posted in the first post was for Oct. 31st), but shopping for a home and dealing with all the frustrations regarding that kept me from the post office that day... Monday was no better for me, Tuesday, I just plain simply forgot from all the worries and distractions.. But I did get them sent today. I tried to send them overnight, but the lady at the post office informed me that the best they could do was guarantee delivery by Friday before 3:00 PM. *Bows my head in shame* Sorry about the delay, even more so because I had the cards completed on time, I just didn't make it to the post office on time.
  21. It's too bad they can't sail to this part of the inland. Not only would I love to see them (although apparently they sailed up the Ohio a month ago, and I was too busy to drive the two hours to see them then), it would be spectacular to see them with a copy of the flagship we have here.
  22. Nah, you don't sound party pooperish! My comment was really more intended to remind all to relax and have fun while being vigilant. I think I may have come off too negatively in my effort to say "stay positive". How is that for defeating the purpose of my own message?
  23. While not a song, we could all drink "La Fin du Monde" by Unibroue... It's a really good ale from Quebec. The name translates to "The End of the World". Red Sea Trade, you have some awesome taste in music! I love both those songs by the Time Zone and Fishbone! I'm also a big fan of Jesus Jones! More on topic there is also the song "Apocalypso" by "Lords of the New Church".
  24. Ya know Hurricane, While I appreciate the fact that we will likely be held under SLIGHTLY closer scrutiny this year with the new Fort management, and how we are perceived MAY affect the future of the Fort portion of the festival... I'm starting to get the vibe that there is a bit too much focus on that angle. It's really starting to feel like the Fort part of the festival is going to be a "rule by fear" type of environment (an exaggeration to make a point). I agree we have to act and look smart, but we also need to relax enough about it to enjoy ourselves. And there just seems to be so much focus on the "don't do ??? or we'll get booted" mindset, it is looking like it may actually be a challenge to relax and enjoy any part of the event. I dunno, it just feels like the laid back take responsibility for yourself attitude and help keep an eye out, is being replaced by a "big brother" attitude. I'm just rambling, I doubt I even make any sense.
  25. Taking Hurricane's suggestion in this post to heart... Could we get a show of hands of those willing to help out for the Mercury crew at PiP this year? So far, Iron John, Kate Souris, and myself have offered to help. Mark G also offered to help out in a conversation we had in person over this past weekend. Anyone else care to throw their name out? The above constitutes more than enough helping hands, but it is always better to have more volunteers than is needed, which could provide us all with the opportunity to elect the volunteers rather than being stuck with the few that offer. Anyways, hope to hear from the rest of the crew. Cheers.
